Jimmy PAGE's Exhilarating 12-Bar Blues Riff

Музыка

A Led ZEPPELIN
During a break from recording the complex track "Four Sticks" for Led Zeppelin IV, John Bonham started playing a fast drum beat from one of Little Richard’s classic 50s rock’n’roll tunes. Within just 15 minutes, the band had crafted "Rock And Roll," a high-energy throwback that rock critic Robert Christgau later hailed as “simply the most dynamic hard-rock song” in music. Following the more acoustic direction of Led Zeppelin III, this track, with Jimmy Page’s exhilarating 12-bar blues riff, marked a return to their rock roots. Frontman Robert Plant told Creem magazine that the song came from Led Zeppelin’s belief that “rock’n’roll needed to be taken on again… It was a very animal thing, a hellishly powerful thing, what we were doing.”

Jimmy was the complete package: guitarist, producer, songwriter. Talented, intelligent, handsome, hot, with a sweet voice and shy manner, irresistible! The incredible riffs, the dazzling solos, a magnetism that not even Robert Plant, the Golden God, could overshadow. His talent in transforming the songs he “heard” in his mind into audible reality is amazing. Listening to him is an almost surreal experience, the whirlwind of emotions he awakens is inexplicable. Jimmy Page, a mix of wizard, sorcerer, alchemist, The Lord of the Strings ❤

He was never touted as a technician….nor should he be ….but the millions of fans and moreover young players he had such an emotional impact on is second to none…and at the end of the day that’s what matters most and why he is number one…at least in terms of vision and influence….so many great guitarists over the decades but he simply is the one we all know and feel…even if subconsciously

I think Jimmy Page was and always will be the greatest rock guitarist because of his innovation and vision. He experimented with all kinds of sound. He pushed the envelope further than anyone else. He could play his army of guitars in such a way that your soul felt it. You went on a journey with him. When you add in his overall vision of the type of band he wanted, the light and shade of the music he envisioned, the musicians and lead singer he gathered to form Led Zeppelin, his creativity in riffs and songwriting, along with his superb production skills, I have to say he is one of the most influential musicians of the Rock era. 🔥

Excellent video. Yeah, the first time I ever experienced the song Rock n Roll was live in San Francisco. They played it as their 2nd encore and it just killed the whole audience. This was before the 4th album was released, so we all were hearing it for the 1st time. Holy shit, nobody had ever experienced anything like it. A moment I'll never forget.

Saw Zeppelin 4 times 1972 thru 1980. The first time they opened with the Immigrant Song. 2nd time was Rock n Roll. Fantastic Band. Hardest tickets I ever tried to get. Lol.

Richie Blackmore was a far more polished live performer, as was Jeff Beck. Studio wise, Page was flawless.

Live performance is a very very subjective aspect of musicianship…composition, production and influence on learning musicians is more a matter of numbers…which is also the basis of success….which are not so subjective nor arguable….and in those terms Blackmore, Beck, Clapton and even Hendrix’s pale in comparison to those of Page…I know we all have our favorites…hence the subjective nature of live performance….but the compositions, the production, and moreover the numbers and influence are factual representations of success….and not terribly arguable….in those terms, Page is untouchable….looked up and watch the interviews and soundchecks of the following generations of our best guitar players…they all worship Page and play Zep at their soundchecks…from EVH…Rhodes…SRV…John 5…all of em…Page is king of the riff and the biggest influence in their own words and deeds….personally, I’m

(Accidentally hit send before was finished)…personally I’m a big fan of Walsh…but he too was Pages biggest fan…in other words, as an industry insider on tour since 78, I recognize the the numbers and the influence of musics most successful players…and Page is like it or not the owner of that criteria…but love em all for their contributions.

@@peterrollinson-lorimer I know he did and was quite polished at it, but live I think he sucked. The idea that he was better than Hendrix is absurd, and Clapton's blistering leads with Cream was something Page could only dream of.

Page put the song first didn't rely on technical overplaying like many other guitarist the look at me what I can do gets old after awhile they run out of ideas eventually then just repeat the tricks they started great but Page had a different style of improvising never playing the same way twice taking lots of different musical.ideas and putting it together. Where is the acoustic guitars? So few even play one why? Need the noise and tricks can't be there with a simple acoustic sound? Are they really bettter. NO WAY!
