i think the reason is that back then during that time period those movies such as godfather and scarface where viewed very negatively in the mainstream media and especially the type of mafia character that al pacino played made him not as marketable to win an oscar. They would be pissed during that time if al pacino won an oscar for playing a drug lord who killed and did cocaine and was a criminal. you get me? obviously his performances were amazing but back then there was too much censorship with that kind of stuff. it is like how leonardo di caprio didnt win an oscar for wolf of wall street. that was his best performance and best movie ever and yet he didnt win an oscar cause he played a real life ex con who defrauded many people and was a socipath that did drugs and got with hookers. so if he won an oscar for playing a charcater like that people would have an outrage at the oscars for allowing him to win. btw i am a huge al pacino and di caprio fan but this is the sad truth. they should have won many more oscars but sometimes it depends on the movie.

Dont mean too much. Brando is above any actor ever. Ask the other actors (Pacino, DeNiro, Nicholson and and and). They‘ll tell you the same.

Al Pacino is a living legend. I've had the luck to see him on a play on Broadway 5 years ago. I was in absolute awe the whole time, didnt listen to what they were saying :-) I was mesmerized by just watching him live on stage. Unforgettable! Hunters on Amazon great show btw!

Such a wonderful actor. I solute him, he admitted that he has severe anxiety in front of crowds......it takes a strong man to face your fears.

It's so strange seeing Al on these late night shows cause he haven't done one of these in a while but I ain't complaining tho. I just love Al. He's great.

he looks so intimidating (maybe it’s the overall impression you get from watching him act), but when he starts speaking and smiling... it’s like he’s the sweetest person in the world ✨

Pacino in The Godfather Part II is one of the GOAT performances ever, great to know the amount of work behind it.

@@SN2903 disappeared is truly the best way to describe it; the man absolutely became the character to a point i refused to believe it was someone acting, i felt like i was watching a life documentary.

I can listen to Al talk for hours. What an iconic legend👑👑👑👑

It’s incredible how much this guy remembers and can indorse in how old the guy is... love the guy, love everything about him and the fact he’s so professional makes it so much more iconic and great.

He even praised adam sandler, what a humble legend

To this day I don't understand why he was nominated as a supporting actor for the first Godfather when he was clearly the lead. Guessing it's because Brando was the bigger name at the time.

s k... That's how it commonly works. Paul Newman never won anything until The Color of Money. He deserved one way before that. Every so often there is a "We should have given this person an Oscar a long time ago, so he/she gets one this year, whether or not they actually deserve it" win. Newman was really good in CoM, but I thought Pacino was annoying in Scent of a Woman.

@@ongogablogian Yeah, the studios (especially back then) would decide what Oscars to lobby for. At the time, Brando's career was in a steep decline, so The Godfather was perceived largely as his artistic and commercial comeback. Pacino was a nobody actor (the studio didn't even want to hire him because of this fact) so when it came time to campaign for awards the studio backed Brando for Best Actor because, well, it's always going to sound a bit better than Best Supporting and at the time it was seen as his film.

@@slyjokerg Yeah, the Oscar Pacino won was more of a make up for all those years. I believe Denzel Washington should've won that year for Malcolm X.

@@like2seeit86 That's no lie. Malcolm X is Denzel's best performance and Lee's best movie.

Just watched Insomnia again recently with him and the late great Robin Williams. Both of them gave amazing performances. Prior to that I watched the Irishman and I was just blown away with how much energy Al gave to Hoffa especially given his advanced age. He is my favorite actor of all time.

Just watched Heat last night again. Master class performance by AL Pacino

The Godfather films, Scarface, Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico, Scarecrow, The Insider, Glengarry Glen Ross..... These are just the ones for which he didn't get an Oscar award....lol Just shows that Al Pacino is bigger than The Academy.
