Julie Cowart doesn't matter that it's not pretty, no one listens to Idina to hear a "pretty" voice, they listen to hear her pure power and raw talent and quite frankly, I'd take the likes of Idina over any modern "pretty" singer today.

Idina Menzel's voice is absolutely amazing. I love how Jimmy is going to join in at a couple of points, then just looks over at her like "Wow."

Goose bumps every time I listen to this... Idina has a RIDICULOUS voice.

Everyone's reaction when she hits that high note in the end!

She _could_ have treated this performance as a comedy gag, but clearly there is no "take it easy tonight" in this woman's playbook. She did NOT phone that performance in!

Time after time and she can still hit these notes. I am a fan for life.

I love Idina so much. She is a great singer and I admit, the oscars wasn't great but she was nervous, it wasn't a steady tempo, she had rehearsed it to death. It was understandable why she missed the high note. But this performance was amazing. It was nice and to be fair it was cute with the classroom instruments. I love Idina and I hope people understand how great she is.

Nirrini Exactly. She was actually upset when she heard that he messed up her name right before she went on so that's why it was a little weird in the beginning. It wasn't because she was nervous. I heard this straight from the producer of the show. kudos to her for pushing through.

I thought she did great at the Oscars, actually. She looked gorgeous, too. What I didn't understand though is why they had to cut out like half the song. They had time for stupid jokes and not enough time to let Idina sing the whole of her song.

This was *so much* better than the Oscars performance! Idina was great, the music was fun and the performance was relaxed :)

You can see the joy in the face of the singers in this attraction, they look happier than when they sing in a big concert!!

I love her smile. It's so wonderful to see her enjoying herself as she sang with them. Jimmy Fallon and The Roots should have been her live band all along.

She has such an incredible voice, her control is amazing (well she is a Broadway singer so...) and that last note was flawless !! It sounded so good !!

the orchestra was terrible! they seemed to be going a tad fast and she was trying to keep up. They also played to damned loud so she had to screech towards the end instead of sing it. Oscars blew what could've been an epic performance...instead Fallon gets it.

kathleen herrera Um... yeah. Not even close. The orchestra rushed, which was pushed by the directors of the show likely, which put her in a terrible position. She may have rehearsed, and she's incredibly accomplished at live theatre, but even someone THAT well trained is going to struggle under rotten circumstances. She has the experience, the training and the talent.... Sorry she's not autotuned enough for you!

7 years later and this is still my favorite version of this song. I just LOVE focusing in on the Roots. Seeing musicians of that caliber thoroughly enjoying the process of making music... no matter the instrument.

And this is why I say that Idina can't do things under high pressure. When it's something relaxed and fun with Jimmy Fallon, she sounds FLAWLESS. Like, did you hear how much power those high notes had? She did an amazing job here. When it's the Oscars or the Tony Awards, she sounds like crap. She's a Broadway legend, and rightfully so, but seriously, just pre-tape. It'll spare us all some agony later, and show Idina at her best - when she's not stressed and feeling the music.

Honestely, I think this performance shows off a lot of talent. First, that Idina Menzel actually sings, that the Roots is completely capable of writing, re-writing and adapting given musical scores, and the sheer creativity of Jimmy Fallon and his crew. I might use this in my class to highlight the work and training that goes into good comedy. Thank you !

For those of you saying she can't sing, I bet most of you know nothing about her. She has had the lead role in many broadway productions, and she was cast for a reason. Go educate yourself on her before you make judgments.

Yes, it is much harder to sing when you're sitting because you don't get as much air as you would if you're standing, and less air means less power. She is an amazing singer to be able to get this much power while sitting :D

Shannon Lewinski It's not even exactly an air thing... a properly trained singer knows how to control breath and will not run out if it that fast. It's mostly the limited movement, it's much more difficult to sing from the diaphragm because there is a lot of pressure on it when you're sitting down.

She nailed every single note like the queen she is, at the Oscars the music was rushed, they cut off half of the song and she was nervous, that's why she didn't hit the last note as good as she COULD have as we clearly just saw. I'm so happy for her, she's finally proved herself, this is her first perfect Let it go live performance and wow just wow plus she is super adorable.

I'm befuddled by the negative comments about Idina's voice. She is a broadway singer meaning she is trained to sing loudly (most singers can't do this and stay on key like she can). This song is incredibly challenging to sing which is why almost every cover of this song is horrible. Frankly, I would rather listen to Idina sing this song a dozen times poorly than listen to anyone else attempt to sing it and butcher it. I'm pretty sure she nailed it here guys...not sure you're ears are functioning correctly.

*has the triangle* *forgets to use it* *remembers at the end and jams out with a straight face* lol

alot of "she can't sing" comments. even more "You're just stupid" retorts. can we just come to the agreement that this probably was not her best performance? I know she CAN sing amazingly well, but in this particular video she didn't sound as great as she would have had she, y'know, practiced for weeks on end. how dare she have an off day? how dare you not appreciate this imperfect performance? the beginning was rough, the end was near perfect. also, this particular rendition used a xylophone, ukulele, maracas and a room that was as crowded as a subway car.

+Dave Marx And who knows how early this was. It is a very rangy, difficult song, and I think it came out darned well considering they're in a dressing room at god-knows-what-hour with children's instruments and pretty much acapella. Right on, Idina.
