He was certainly one of a kind. There was a review on the IMDB before they deleted all the comments for actors. It was from someone who grew up in Hollywood in the 50s/60s. He remembered going trick or treating at all the celebrities homes. Mostly, the candy was handed out by maids and butlers. But Jimmy Durante always gave the candy in person. He spent the whole evening on his front porch telling jokes and entertaining the kids and parents. As you say. He was priceless.

I am here because of Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman.

I didn't know there was even anyone left on the planet old enough to remember Jimmy Durante, We weren't "allowed" to watch him, (we didn't have a TV anyway) but when we went to Norfolk, my cigar-smokin' Grandfather didn't miss a show!

I hope golden era movies will never be forgotten. I'm a young guy, and I have been lured into classic movies by accidentally watching Raquel Welch singing video, I liked her looks, personality, class because of her I started to look for good movies from 50s. Then I found Cyd Charisse, then I wen't for 40s and 30s and finally 20s. I found so many good movies with incredibly classy and honest actresses and actors. So much good content. I think I have gone from Raquel Welch straight to Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall and "To have and have not" movie, because there were that magic portrait of Humphrey Bogart somewhere in the middle of that weirdly interesting movie "Myra Breckinridge". There will be forever few people who will be interested in that era. Hopefully some of those movies will be accessible, and will be never lost.

While working for an airline in the 1960s, my father claimed to have met Durante at the check-in counter. He said that Durante chatted and joked with him, treated him with utmost respect and even checked himself in. His conclusion: Durante was a down to earth, modest and incredibly nice guy. Other celebrities he saw had personal assistants and wouldn't dare fraternize with the staff, but Durante apparently did so happily and did everything himself. I would have liked to meet Durante, but I was very very young when he passed away. At least someone in my family met him, if even for a brief time. This man deserves a revival. I guess we'll see.

Jesus...this is really something!! Anyone see that Jimmy puts on his hat and jacket when he sings "wanted to go" but takes it off when he sings wanted to stay" he does it time and again...it's so strange. It's all back to front. Watch it and tell me I'm wrong. He must have had a few too many glasses of champagne backstage. Love Jimmy Durante...but I had to say what I seen!!

Sorry but you are wrong. It was customary to take ones hat and jacket/overcoat off when attending indoor social gatherings..dinners,visiting friends etc..when you leave you put your coat and hat back on
