jamz0007 There are artists that have a genre that is popular, a hit that evokes a following, and remain a strong concert audience draw, and the audience genuinely love the song/music , most of these fans are not musically trained, don't understand the talent ranges of vocal artists - they simply recognize the music resonates a pleasing sound to their ear - and they are correct, HOWEVER, occasionally the artist is beyond a mention on a top 10, they are genius level gifted, they can sing in superior quality, range, multiple genres - They are true Stars. This man is one of those exceptional vocal artists - and although he may have not reached the level of international name recognition outside his Genesee of music like a Michael Jackson, Elvis, or Sinatra - he is most definitely that level of talent - It's a fact that the true talents of Star Quality often don't reach the recognition level they deserve, and many have no desire to for the obvious trade-offs it requires - I guarantee 8f Sinatra were listening to this man today or 20 years ago, he would be the first to acknowledge his vast credibility and talent. I have a bit of amazement each time I listen to his work - he is most definitely a Star's Star.

Stumbled onto this today. Had forgotten about Jimmy Cliff and Bob Marley.. The talent heart and soul of Jamaica.

67, Indian, recently bereft of wife - pal - colleague, after 45 years together. Loved this man (Jimmy Cliff) among so many genius' of our time - fifties and sixties and seventies and eighties and nineties and now a new millennium....what would we have done, where gone, turned to whom if our music had just slipped past us? Good will to all And now instead, a new stand by all; that is kind & full of love and friendship; strength & the conquest of fear .... like a full circle ... from campus to home to city squares... From philarmonic rehersals to Flash.....perhaps we shall overcome. Again.

How privileged he is to have been born with such a beautiful voice, and how lucky are we all that he shares it with us.

My GOD! How does he sound even better than the original recording!

Over time, this has become one of my top 5 vocal performances by anyone, anytime, in any context. I love the fact that Dave, Jools, and Gilson, all applaud at the end too - I don't remember Gilson standing up for anyone else. They got it. This was one of those once in a million moments. The small flaws make it all the better.

because older singers SING LIVE at all their concerts . if you use "back tracks or lip sync" your voice deteriorates over years. if you retire from singing your voice deteriorates. Its the same as exercising the body.

Jimmy you sound like the first time I heard you 20 years ago and even better. I consider you a rare find in music. You have such a unique beautiful voice and style your music has stuck with me ever since.

Had his first hit in 1962 mate . ''Hurricane Hattie" his old friend Les Kong produced it. Jimmy was eighteen. It`s on youtube. Bought a very scratched copy on Greatie St market in 68. One of the early ska records, or skearrr depending on whereabouts in Liverpool you came from.

Wow...what a voice. I was truly amazed at his strong vocals. He didn't sound old at all and the way he hit those notes...it was just as fresh as when he wrote and sang it back in 1969.

Saw Tessanne's performance on The Voice and it led me to search for this song. Jimmy Cliff still has that great voice after so many years....wow! Go Jamaica!!
