This was a Memorial Concert for a guy call Andy Durant who was a member of the band Stars. Only three members of Cold Chisel were on this stage….Jimmy Barnes, Ian Moss (guitar and first vocal) and Don Walker (piano). Other artists on stage were Richard Clapton (black hair and guitar) and Renee Geyer (female vocalist) and no doubt you will find both now that you are this far down the rabbit hole.

I had the album, dont know what happened to it. Was a great album and now I have been reminded I will look at picking up the CD or download. I loved the Stars, Mighty Rock, Look after yourself, Last of the Riverboats etc. If Andy hadn't passed they would have been huge I reckon just as Little River Band were.

Nick - I nearly fell off my chair when you posted this! This Bob Dylan song is the encore from the Andrew Durant Memorial Concert, Andy was the songwriter, rhythm guitarist, harmony singer and harmonica player for Stars, he died at age 25 of a melanoma. The remainder of Stars, with all the other talent you see here put the concert together (with one rehearsal) and they played every song that Andy had written for the band, then played this for the encore. I was 14 at the time, Stars were my jam back then, and the rest of the concert was overwhelmingly powerful. Broderick Smith may appear drunk, he was just emotionally spent and, as were others on stage. Glad you enjoyed Mick Pealing (sang 2nd verse), Mal Eastick (my inspiration for picking up guitar at age 10 - even got to have lessons with him many years ago) and all the others. The concert and the DVD/VHS/cd/LP etc all raised $$$ for cancer research, I believe there is an Andrew Durant cancer ward in the hospital he was treated in.

Renee Geyer was gaining popularity in the US when her singing was being introduced into US radio during the late ( 70's early 80's?) by Quincy Jones. Her biggest fans were amongst the blues fans there. She tells the story, with bitter but comic, self deprication of how Quincy warned her not to put her face on her first album release there because she needed to become more established before some people would accept that she was white. She said she thought it was rubbish and put her album out " ...with my stupid big pink face on the cover...." and that was the end of her big chance in the US.

@@sofiamiliaressis5403 It wasn't really so sad as she was exposed enough to big blues names over there who actively sought her out to sing special back ups and she still worked with big names there for years and around the world also with big names that admired her talent. They all knew her or of her, she just wasn't a big name to the American public even though they would have heard her voice backing many famous artists on famous songs. She has probably had more fun and opportunities working amongst so many of her blues idols and other greats while still being a well known giant award winning talent in her own home.country. She wasn't starved for recognition at home and if recognised as a big name in the US she might have had less control and not so much longevity and fun. Renee always laughs about that gaff of her typically being headstrong and not listening to Quincy Jone's sage advice. She has a very healthy accepting attitude of her own forceful independenr personality. It got her far and it brought her and audiences around the world happiness. She is in her mid 60's now and has a raft of interview videos she has given throughout her long career. Look her up on you tube, her attitude is a real tonic.

Respect was shown by Australia's premier talent to perform the songs he wrote...Full artwork & lyrics with album opened shows the whole stage & artists..Most intriguing is having 2 drum kits playing simultaneously.

Hmmm.. Not Cold Chisel, it was the remainder of Andrew Durant's band Stars who were joined by various other performers including 3 members of Chisel, after Andy died of cancer

Jimmy Barnes actually uses both sets of vocal chords. He is a one off.

Such a fantastic version. So many great songs sung there that night. So glad that you then took the initiative to then review Broderick Smith (aka "drunk guy" (that wasn't drunk) singing "Ocean Deep" from the same concert, and then several Renee Geyer songs. They're locked and loaded to watch next. I've watched many of your "reactions" and love how you are so emotionally "touched" by the music you are hearing.

Great line-up & yep,Love that Tom Petty red Tee👍😎🎩💘 The dude you thought you might be drunk is Broderick Smith..absolute legend. ♥️ Also another legend in Richard Clapton on guitar.. in between the singers with black jacket on. Check Richard out..Best Years of Our Lives,Capricorn Dancer, Girls on the Avenue.... The woman singing is the extremely soulful Renee Geyer.

The guy on the piano is is Don Walker. He is the writer and architect of most Cold Chisel songs. Sure Jimmy and Mossy had their own masterpieces but the greatest was written by the original Drummer. "When the war is over" Get to know Don Walker and his Genius.

JB came tot he Pilbara twice, and twice was blown away by cyclones. I got to see JB at the Nookenburrah - It had 2 lines surrounding it, but I got in, and JB was amazing - pub band on steroids, and I was unbeleivebly lucky to hear this master, JB!

It was Cold Chisel that did this song not Jimmy Barnes in his solo career. The original was Bob Dylan. Oh and Merry Christmas from down under!

Dude, it was the Andy Durant Memorial concert. This is a who's who of Australian rock. Half of them are dead now in 2023. Andy wrote for all of them and died at a young age mid 20's. The female was Renee Geyer, she died this year from a hip infection following surgery. Broderick Smith died this year as well. He was the frontman for Brod Smiths big combo. You have cold chisel members, Richard clapton and the list goes on. Such a pleasure and a walk down memory lane. Thank you. I love Australian music!
