Regardless if I’m happy or not that Jimmie did well at Le Mans last weekend, I’m not very optimistic about this at all. This unfortunately doesn’t change the fact that Jimmie and LMC themselves need to do some serious upgrading on their overall team quality for next year. Maybe Toyota can change this around, but this will be a tough change for everyone to get through. In fact, next year could be even worse than this year because of growing pains. I hope that isn’t the case, but it most likely will be. Hopefully, with Jimmie and Toyota together things can turn around, but I’m not holding my breath right now.

A much needed change, since Chevy hasn’t shown that they care about LMC. If Toyota is offering to make them a key partner and invest, then we’ll see it pay off. In short, it’s an aggressive business move for a team that needs aggressive moves. As for Jimmie, I just want to see him have a solid run/no mistakes race if he’s intent on still driving, but he needs testing to get caught up on the grip level in this car. He’s a year and a half behind the regular guys on finding the edge. Unlikely he wins again, but at the least he should look like he knows what he’s doing.

It's a business decision simple as that. I know Jimmie is running a couple more races with LMC, but if Le Mans is the last significant race for him in a Chevy, at least he finished well in it. Plus maybe JJ will run in a third TGR car at Le Mans in future years, this time for the overall win- I wouldn't be surprised if there was some discussion on this.

Die Hard JJ fan here, holy this is exciting. Ever since Toyota came to the sport I began to support Kyle Busch as well, since my dad owned a Toyota 4Runner, the rav4 and now the taco, I've also been given my grandmas Toyota 2009 Camry that made me feel like I was driving a nascar lol. I always had my sights set on buying a rare impala one day (that's a dream). But anyways besides that story, I think its awesome seeing my favourite driver drive in my favourite car manufacturer! I hope it'll be a better year for him though as it hurts seeing him decline like this

  • @LoganTheHoosierFan

I’m a Blaney fan now, but I literally grew up a fan of Jimmie Johnson. Like my dad was a Dale Jr fan at first, but then started to root for Johnson on his 1st cup series start. And so I became a Johnson fan when I was just a year old. So yeah, it does hurt growing up seeing your driver win so many races and championships. And then seeing him just fall off a cliff since like 2018 in terms of competitiveness just hurts as a fan. Then now seeing him move to Toyota just makes it even worse. But all in all, I will still root for him and hope he gets at least one more win before he fully retires from racing. To me he’s still the Ol Seven Time.

MARK MY WORDS! Jimmie Johnson will win again. I wrote this down in my notes in 2020 or so when he announced he was going to Indycar in 2021. His plan was the come back the entire time. With the nextgen being a much more aero dependent type of car, what better way to learn how to drive such a vehicle and learn how to better understand the aerodynamic aspects of driving than doing a season and a half of Indycar and a handful of IMSA races. On top of that, doing a handful of races this season in Cup on every type of track and running the 24 hours of LeMans. This man has seen the development of a nextgen car from its base state to the car’s highest potential in its evolution. He’s driven this car such a long period of time under such extreme conditions. This man has been PREPARING for the comeback of a lifetime. The Toyota alliance will make that team faster for sure. Toyota is extremely successful in NASCAR and for a long time have been eager to expand to more cars. We see how David Wilson feels about Jimmie and again the eagerness of Toyota to have more cup teams. Their team is in prime position to get significantly better information from Toyota and the other Toyota teams. And Gragson and Jones are extremely talented ex Toyota drivers. Does anyone really think that this type of guy, who was so dominant would want his career to end being tied in championships and wins with other drivers. I’m sure that ate at him so much for years after 2017. With this format, I think Jimmie Johnson can go out and win two critical races in a season and with an 8th title. Breaking his championship ties and win ties. It’s not over by any means. This is the beginning of something legendary. It’s been so clear since the beginning

It is what it is; it isn't like there isn't already precedent. He drove a Honda powered IndyCar for 2 years, so there's that. Plus he's not going to be fulltime, so I just look at it as Jimmie just having fun. So the real question no one seems to be asking is, why did Chevrolet let him go? It's kinda like Kyle Busch leaving Gibbs for RCR. And to be fair, Legacy is so lost right now, it might actually be for the best to get more factory support from Toyota.

I have to admit, I am sick to my stomach about this, but at the same time, we’ve seen this type of stuff many times before with drivers switching manufacturers. Take Matt Kenseth leaving Ford after 2012 to Toyota in 2013 for example, or most recently, Kyle Busch moving back to Chevy with RCR after having a fallout with JGR and Toyota. To me, it doesn’t matter what manufacturer he drives, at the end of the day, i’m still going to support my hero until the day I die, however, as much as I hate to admit it, his glory days are long behind him. Pocono has proven to be a career-killer track, and on that one dreadful day in 2017, little did we Jimmie fans know at the time that a dose of reality was smacked into us at a turn 1 wall at 150mph. 😞

Smart move. Chevy has too many cars in the field and the teams lower on the totem pole like Legacy is were likely seeing very little manufacturer support. Switching to Toyota who only has 6 cars in the field currently is definitely going to improve manufacturer support which would only help Legacy and take them to the next level which Petty never did. This move also balances out the Cup field manufacturer-wise and perhaps even one more Chevy team could switch to Toyota to fully balance it. A team like Spire perhaps could potentially benefit going to Toyota. Best case scenario, I'd like to see a 4th manufacturer enter, specifically for Dodge to return, but it's not looking like it's going to be happening like people initially thought.

It’s painful. Much like Scuderia Ferrari now. I wish both were competing for wins on a regular basis, but reality paints a different narrative. On the other hand, considering he’s drive a McLaren with a Merc engine, and an IndyCar with a Honda engine, it won’t be weird for me to see him in a Toyota.

I expected a Ford team to do that, but Chevy? It can either go Joe Gibbs or founder like Furniture Row and Leavine

Hack. I remember SHR went from Chevrolet to Ford & didn't think that would happen. It make no difference with Johnson to Toyota.

It just about happened several years with bubba and Hamlin would have come in also on the ownership side. I assume Andrew Murstein would have sold his share to Hamlin and probably MJ

Well Chevy took Kyle Busch from Toyota so it only makes sense for Toyota to get revenge and take one of NASCAR's goats lol Jimmie Johnson driving a Toyota will be weird. I've been a very neutral JJ fan since he announced his retirement so I'm very numb to the pain he's had to deal with since

Jimmie Johnson is a hasbeen. Have you guys forgot his last years at Hendrick Motorsports? all the other HMS were running well except for JJ he was always single car spinning and wrecking maybe taking someone else out in the process. Or just plain running horribly. even if the equipment is good or not, the driver isnt there anymore, hes not a driver hes a rider.
