    People think hendrix was just a freaky guitarist but his melodies were haunting and exotic.

    I never could make a Dunlop Fuzz Face work for me. I finally built one using BC109 transistors that are almost oscillating, and I also have a 1968 Fender Blender Octave fuzz also with hot transistors that will self oscillate so it has boat loads of octave overtones. I also built some other Ocatavios based on the Mayer transistor versions and even some mux-demux versions. There are also a lot of half speed overdubs in this song too. I used the mux demux octave down or a Tascam 4 track for those.

    EXCELLENT LESSON for a song I had thought impossible to learn but you made it learnable!! Two questions. At the 3:20 mark did you mean to say “a quick G”? The chord you played wasn’t an A. The other question is is there any way to get that tone if you don’t have that fuzz box thingy!?😇 I do own a Boss ME-70 though. Thanks for you help!

  • @emersonswinford8949

    @emersonswinford8949

    4 жыл бұрын

    Quintin Smith Hey thank you very much. So what is happening is right before that G chord is an open A (5th) string then a strum of the G chord. It goes by fast, hence my “quick A”. Maybe it was even unintentional on JIMI’s part? In terms of the tone I don’t have any experience with that unit. A fuzz face has a pretty specific thing it does, it’s quirky and seems to work best w tube amps that are cooking a bit.

    Really cool game, amazing lesson. I have one question. In 10 min. 50 sec.first bend. At the moment of bending which strings are hit and which one are mute. Is this a rake technique? Regards.

    @emersonswinford8949

    7 жыл бұрын

    Hi. Yes that was a rake. Honestly, I wasn't even aware I did that and Jimi probably just hit the G string bend dead on. But what I did there was rake the muted lower strings (probably A and D) with the pick before hitting the bend on the G. Blues players do that all the time. Thanks for asking.

    I'd be willing to bet that 69 Strat is older than Emerson Swinford is. He does seem to have a feel for that genre of music though, I've got to say. I like Fender Strats because they have a wide neck that gives you more room for bends and chords that involve all four fingers.

    Cordmichael it’s a vintage fender. Funny you should ask though. I just replaced the saddles w new fender “ pat. Pend.” saddles. Kept the old ones in the case, just too old and rusty. The new ones work fine, sound the same. On another strat I use the callaham trem block and plate, but prefer the fender saddles over callahams.

    @@emersonswinford8949 Rock Me Baby Live From Monterey, Robin Trower Day Dream, Cry Of Love Highway Jones. All most excellent tunes to play live. If you could learn and post these songs it would be most excellent. This link is me playing A Bonnie Raitt Strat. This was an open jam with good musician's who could follow your style of playing. I'm getting back into playing after a long hiatus. And it's fantastic to see someone who has that gift to play the style of guitar I love. Jazz is just to nuts for me. kzread.info/dash/bejne/o2uKx81se9zRqaQ.html

    You did not mention your tuning ( I haven't checked it against my guitar yet ) , So, are you in standard tuning, or down 1/2 step like Hendrix ( as well as several others )

    Your 69 start isn't set up properly, as the guitar is still in tune when you touch the tremolo arm. On a real 69, even a feather light touch of that metal bar should destroy the tuning and intonation so badly it needs a pro setup to be in tune again
