    I saw him twice too in the 60s. I'm pretty sure I was on acid both times. When he started playing all I could do was just stand there with my mouth wide open, in awe. He was really from another time dimension. If you listen to Electric Ladyland with headphones on you will feel the music all around you and deep within you. We are all just pulsations of energy and that is why we like this music so much. It takes you on a journey.

    This footage is from the Singer Bowl, Flushing Meadows Park, Queens, N.Y.C. I was there (16 yrs. old). A recording of Hendrix is a mere shadow of his live performances. They were otherworldly, almost like tripping! I was blessed to see him play 3 times!

    incredible footage. i must say the more rare releases i am privileged to see on youtube, i have to feel for the people who never got to see him at all. watching all of this historical footage is just a mere fraction of what it was like to see him live. yes -- i saw him live, twice in california: at the hollywood bowl in september 1968, with vanilla fudge, soft machine and heir apparent; then i saw him in april 1969, with cat mother & the all night news boys, and a new band called chicago transit authority before they became just chicago. words cannot begin to describe the sight and sound of mr. hendrix performing, let alone the sheer volume at which he played. we are left with our memories of a young man who used sound as no one before him or after.

    I am grateful for all these recordings, audio, visual and otherwise. But you are correct they are only mere echos from a distant past. Unfortunately I wasn't born until a few days more than a year after he passed away. What most people forget is that music is and has always been and always will be a live performance art - and when we lost Jimi, the world was much less for it.

    This was a fabulous concert, beautiful night, sound was great! The Singer Bowl, left over from the Worlds Fair, is in the flight path of nearby LaGuardia airport. All night long planes kept flying over, deafeningly loud. Every other act just stopped playing till the jets would pass, but not Jimi, he just looked up at the sky and played right into the roar. He never missed a beat!

I am too young to remember much from 1969 and Woodstock isn't one of those memories. I discovered Hendrix only 10 years after his death, although that didn't seem like a short time at the time. This footage is a historical goldmine, although the cameramen were idiots. I saw Jimi that summer at Somerville HS. I was 9 years old and I begged my sister to take me. My older siblings were really good to me most of the time.

    It's amazing to know that since then every mannerism of Jimi Hendrix has been copied by guitar player since not just the music incredible

  • @Da_Xman

    @Da_Xman

    3 жыл бұрын

    Simply enough, sometimes "odd mannerisms" and those that also might seem as posed postures are actually the most effective position that comes naturally to the body in acquiring the best leverage for the player's arms and hands to finger the strings in order to create the desired tone/sound from a particular guitar. And, it's not necessarily the same position with different guitar designs. This is due to the weight balancing of the instrument. That might sound strange, but there's a good deal of truth to it.

The last song was Wild Thing written bv the Troggs a group that featured also a heavy sound on the guitar. Jimi played this song rarely in concerts rgar is wgy this video here is really interesting.
