Nothing but respect for Jim, some athletes may DNF at this point if they felt the podium was unattainable. His professionalism and will to fight through it is simple remarkable, watch out 2023 Jim will be back with even a greater desire and passion to win….Best of luck Jim we respect you!

Congrats to Jim for the hard work in these low moments. He has such a powerful motor and fire for the high moments, and that’s the Jim we know to break course records. This struggle Jim is less well known to both us and himself. The struggle he endured to limp toward 4th place is a personal best in many ways.

I dont even wanna know how terrible he's feeling in this part of the trail + all these really annoying people following him. But in my opinion its REALLY important to show those moments aswell. Running an Ultra is not always smiling, happiness, running down hills like a little kid and looking like a great athlete... it's also moments like this... struggling hard, looking like you will fall to the ground any second with terrible running form... Mad respect to everyone being able to finish a race like this. And I'm 100% sure Jim will come back way stronger. He learned some lessons this year and will win UTMB in the next 2-3 years.

Yes, kudos to Jim for sucking it up and finishing. I can assure you there are many more who look like this or worse approaching the finish, including me! 100+ miles through the mountains is not a casual stroll on the beach. I surely do hope he can pull off a win here, but it won't be any easier as the competition keeps getting better.

@@clarkfox6975 Even if I'm not an Ultra runner (yet) I guess ur 100% right. There's alot of struggle in those races... I watch alot of Ultra running content, KZread Videos, documentaries and so on... and 95% of the content is really happy and impressive human beings. You barely ever see any pain or suffering. All you see is great atheletes pushing through those races combined with great views, stunningly beautiful places et cetera. Don't get me wrong. I love those videos. But sometimes you get alot of self doubt and false motivation if you just see those beautiful moments : D I'm glad to see videos like this aswell. It shows we are all just human and watching someone like Jim fight through those moments makes him even more of an idol for me. @Oscar Gonzalez: What is so ignorant about it?

Different horses for different courses - I think Jim’s best play is to go back to WS and break 14. His bounce & heat tolerance are weapons there. At this point even a win at UTMB will carry ugly baggage. There is also the HR out his back door to make a mark at. There may be some sponsorship issues to deal with but damn “there is no place like home”

I don't think that's how Jim's mind works. Recall it took him 3 tries to get WSER. When he sets his sights on a new goal, he keeps at it. Not "repeating the same mistakes" but "learning from his mistakes".

@@wk633 thanks for the input! I have totally agreed with your perspective until this last race. Perfect weather for Jim. He didn’t make any mistakes, he had to attack Killian when he did, Francois was a victim of Killian’s late power (Hard Rock 2022). It’s Jim’s bounce that is inefficient for this course (getting strong with poles will create more body weight) look at Blanchard his head tracks level & his trajectory in the sport is only matched by Peterman who just won WS his first try. Him winning would be huge, but I think if we really care about Jim we will assure him it’s smart to invest elsewhere. A Dads perspective ;-)

I don't get the point with criticizing those morons (because, yes, those are not "fans") and being a trail runner. I run in mountains like most of all because I love nature and it's simplicity. Seeing idiots screaming in the ears and following a man who is struggling like this is just not right. I got a headache watching those 10 min. of constant screaming so imagine him for 15+ hours. But eh, that's UTMB, the "grand messe" of trail running, the capitalism took it all and it's becoming like the Tour de France. Kilian wasn't even capable to run in the last meters because Chamonix was too crowded, that's nuts.
