I'd forgotten Ditka punished Gault, for being out of bounds, with that reverse. 😃

This game really showed Buddy Ryan's ability to adapt and adjust with his defense . . . in that wk3 game what gets lost in the shadow of McMahon's heroics is that Tommy Kramer had an incredible game, throwing for 436 yards and 3 TDs. Then in this game they really threw some interesting blitzes with unusual man/zone combinations. Anthony Carter really torched them in wk3, so they wanted to take him away.

You’re not kidding. HUGE 180 from a month earlier. Always appreciate your take and comments, buddy.

@@dapunkyqb1679 It's how Buddy was able to make those kinds of wholesale adjustments that tells me unequivocally that he'd have done the same things if he'd have faced Miami again in the Super Bowl. If you watch the second half of that wk13 game, you can actually get a sneak preview, because the defense actually played very well in the 2nd half of that game. Miami may have won that wk13 game, but Tommy Kramer played the best game of the year against the Bears that any quarterback played.

@@SECRETARIATguy224 Y’know, I’ve made a similar arrangement many times before, ego’s cost the Bears that game in Miami and nothing more. I have little to no doubt that Jim McMahon makes the necessary (and obvious) adjustments in a second contest. Not saying that Chicago necessarily wins in a Super Bowl rematch but the example you’ve pointed out here only strengthens my belief that Buddy had it in him to do the same and acknowledge that Dan Marino couldn’t be treated like he was just another QB.

@@dapunkyqb1679 Yep. This game here shows you what Buddy Ryan was capable of doing once a quarterback earned his respect. That and McMahon starting, and healthy, in the Super Bowl would've been the difference against Miami in the Super Bowl.
