Jim Henson was the closest thing to Walt Disney of his generation. Walt Disney brought joy to the audiences of 1920's to 1950's and beyond with the lovable characters of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, and Chip 'n Dale. Jim Henson did the same thing with all the countless Muppets from mid-50's forward. Jim Henson aspired to greater things, and if he had not died so soon, I think he would have achieved all his goals with the unstoppable pluck that true artists have.

That's a testament to Jim Henson's talent right there, specifically his talent at creating and playing likable and lively characters Kermit just openly acknowledged that he's operated by wires and even with that I STILL am able to take him seriously like he was a real live person... frog... frog person. The illusion is just too damn good!
@CartoonCo-Op Жыл бұрын
Between Henson’s quick wit, Rivers looking at Kermit just about the whole time while speaking to him, & the fact that this is to promote LABYRINTH, just an 11/10 interview right here. May their memories be a blessing to all who knew or come to know them.
@yadro3 жыл бұрын
I just love how Jim was kind of shy, hiding behind his hand and speaking so softly.
@TrophyBoiii Жыл бұрын
That's just a testament of how brilliant Jim Henson was. The answers on the spot are brilliant and so authentic. Kermit seems so real and Jim just was Kermit. No modern take of Kermit, no matter how close the voice alone might be, come even close to his personality and wit. Jim Henson, noone can replace you!
@monkeyman767 Жыл бұрын
Every time I see Jim Henson I'm just blown away. I can see his mouth move, I can see his hands move, but I still instantly forget that what ever muppet he's operating isn't real.

It's ridiculous how a good Jim Henson was. every interview with Kermit they are just talking to Kermit and Jim Henson is just there in the background making fun of it mimicking Kermit. But the subtle head nods the like leaning in to listen just like the facials it's so good.

Darn, Jim looks like Steven Spilberg with that whole beard get up. And wow how he could stay in character well. I mean maybe he knew what they were suppose to talk about but she come of as asking him intensely so it had to have been prepared to get the most real reaction. And how much I try my eyes focus right on Kermit when he talks, can´t look at Jim, master puppeter.

These interviews with Jim always make me a little sad- no matter what show he's the guest on, the host always quickly asks him to be Kermit/Rowlf/etc. They ask one or two questions to him for formality but then spend most of the time with the puppets. I get that's exciting, and I always love seeing Jim perform, but he's such an interesting and inspirational person on his own, it'd be nice to have seen more of just Jim himself!

@meg elizabeth Me too, apparently Jim was a very soft-spoken, shy guy person to person. Kermit and the rest of his characters may have been a way for him to be more extroverted by separating his social energy into another character.

I do blame the writers! I understand that with new audiences, certain things need to be updated for the script, but you can't change who these characters are! Kermit the Frog must remain a shy pond-dweller, and if people want to know more about his love life, they should do the smart thing and ask Miss Piggy, because she would be more open about it, and even then... it's just like Kermit said to Joan Rivers, he's from Sesame Street!

"Giving away the secrets. Right there, folks!" And absolutely NO ONE cares. That's how real you are to us, Kermit.
That's a testament to Jim Henson's talent right there, specifically his talent at creating and playing likable and lively characters Kermit just openly acknowledged that he's operated by wires and even with that I STILL am able to take him seriously like he was a real live person... frog... frog person. The illusion is just too damn good!
Between Henson’s quick wit, Rivers looking at Kermit just about the whole time while speaking to him, & the fact that this is to promote LABYRINTH, just an 11/10 interview right here. May their memories be a blessing to all who knew or come to know them.
I just love how Jim was kind of shy, hiding behind his hand and speaking so softly.
Rest in peace Jim Henson to the greatest man puppetry
Jim keeping a G rating while she's demanding X or higher. Good thing the camera was fixed on Kermit.
It saddens me that both Joan Rivers and Jim Henson are no longer with us.

I'm grateful that I grew up during the era I did. I experienced Sesame Street, the Muppet Show, and Fraggle Rock in their first runs. And Joan Rivers narrated "The Adventures of Letterman" for us kids.

Joan was always a really intense interviewer lol
i Have to admit, one of the funniest celebrity interviews I have seen so far.
3:10 that facial expression of Kermit right there, wow
What a freaking genius 😂. But the word sex coming from Kermit... Today's letter is S.. brought to you by Joan Rivers 😂

Jim Henson, 1936-1990, and Joan Rivers, 1933-2014, on her short-lived talk show.
RIP Jim Henson. few truly deserve the "genius" label but you did. (the "sex talk" was stupid on Rivers' part but Jim deflected it nicely)

1:52 that is great, even though jim is right there with kermit on his knee i still just see Kermit
The term genius is often thrown around too liberally but Jim Henson? He was a genius. So quick of thought and funny without having to be base or crass.
Very funny. THIS is the Muppet's! Not what Disney has turned them into.

• Brackets • yeah but if you think about it, Walt was always for the new technology, he was inventing things himself. He would have been all for 3d technology, he probably would have been working with it as soon as it was possible to truly work with it.

I can't see Kermit as a puppet. I see him as an alive, breathing, heart-pumping, person.
Joan: "Are you sleeping with Miss Piggy? Can we just get right down to it? Are you sleeping with Miss Piggy? I wanna know!" Kermit: "Stop! You can't come on television asking me about that! I'm on Sesame Street, for goodness sakes!"
The world needs Jim Henson now more than ever I wish he was still here.

Thank you for putting this out and sharing, this is so classic Kermit. Henson died so young . He was Kermit and always will be.
Jim Henson was and still is a legend. Fantastic.
props to the camera guy for keeping it a two shot but I seriously wanted to see Jim's face reacting during that whole exchange.
Kermit: Are we talking about sex?

when joan mentioned the tall cool blonde lady, i thought, "well he's got miss piggy, surely she counts, right?"
It's pure magic wahtching Kermit and Jim Henson talking
Gonzo was my childhood favorite. It's cool to hear Jim loved that muppet
Jim Henson was a true southern boy and the vocal talent behind all the muppets.
It’s amazing how easily I’m convinced Kermit is real! Even know we can see all Jim working Kermit it’s so easy to fall into the fantasy! Henson was the master puppeteer!
2 amazing comedians. Well 3 if you count Kermit.
How easily Jim moves Kermit's viewpoint from felt thing to live frog
What an absolute treasure! The three of them!
I miss them both! Joan and Jim
Jim is a National / Worldwide treasure. He might be around but his platform will last forever. One of the greatest contributions you can give is that of yourself and the ability to bring people together for a rare moment of fondness.
Jim Henson is the best.
It was the ability to go so damn clever that made Henson a icon. Through his muppets he could trounce anyone.
I adore this lovely man !!! Thank you for everything Jim! Kermit is a huge part of my life he makes me laugh and happy but also emotional love you Kermit 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
Grew up on the 70s Muppet Show - Jim Henson and Franlk Oz are geniuses

i love love love love love love love love love love love love Jim Henson. omg. an adorable genius.
Jim Henson died 30 years ago today. :(
I'm assuming this could be Kermit's most embarrassing TV broadcast I ever had
In Germany Kermit was first known by Sesame Street and some years later as host of the muppet show. It was strange, that they changed the German voice actor, in the Muppet Show it was the same voice, who spoke Jerry Lewis.
Wow, Jim Henson! Thank you for your brilliance, you educating and your entertainment.
I remember Jim Henson he will be missed
what an absolutely delightful interview all around 🥰
I think this lady was in the Muppets Take Manhattan movie as the perfume saleswoman in the department store...
He must’ve been so uncomfortable trying to answer those questions in front of adults. It really shows how amazing he was at creating something that resonates with us regardless of age.
Love Jim proud Mississippian
Back in the day! Miss you Jim!

Miss these two!! Jim Henson and Joan Rivers!! Wonderful to hear Kermit sound as I heard him growing up!
I love the Muppet babies cartoon when I was a kid
Henson was a Genius! Wow!
Jim what an amazing man and talent. Looks like a super great guy .. the 80’s where a beautiful time.
This is brilliant! I can't believe I haven't run across it before.

I want Kermit THE frog puppet
Epic interview
Wow. I've never heard Kermit The Frog and Jim Henson talk about sex. Well, the original Muppet Show wasn't just intended for kids. But now Disney bought it, and I'm turning 11, so I'm used to the more modern muppets (and the 2015 show).
Joan looked so good here!
5:59 I like that part.
i love how he dident even need to be hidden while doing the puppets he could just sit there and wed all just watch kermit!
Thanks to Jim we have the muppets. He's missed
You forget Henson is even there after a while
R.I.P. Jim Henson and Joan Rivers
💚 Kermit 💚
I love kermit so much
Jim Henson was the greatest!!!
Hey! This was Made on My Birthday! Nice
I like how these muppets always had their heads nod
This is the Kermit I know. Not the Kermit that Disney has, talking about "relationships" and his new girlfriend, Denise. Not very Kermit at all.

The writers are the worst thing about the new Muppets. Disney’s Muppets are definitely not the Henson characters. Disney is the reason we no longer have Whitmire.
I just imagine Jim Henson‘s facial expressions while saying “ I am on Sesame Street”
"...What were you like as a child??" "...I was a tadpole!!" EPIC.
A legend. A star. And Jim. And blimey, Joan was well fit
Kermit, Guy Smiley, and Ernie were his real voice
