They were laughing, but they either weren't mic'ed or (most likely) had their audio muted during the laughter so most of the sound from them we heard was coming from Kermit's mic. It was probably different being there, but while we're sitting here watching on KZread the editing is made to focus on the speaker so we're not as distracted by the audience. Contrast comedy shows, where the audience is mic'ed so a home audience can get a similar experience to being there with a crowd.

Jim Henson's skits on the Ed Sullivan show were EPIC. I don't know if any.of y'all have seen them, but Henson was into puppetry.....and quite possibly a bit of the ol weed back then, I'd say.

Alot of the audio in the audience at TED talks is taken out, it's pretty commonplace in things with live studio audiences as there are always people who laugh too long, yell, make comments and interrupt, etc etc.

A note on TED Talks: they mute the audience reactions to keep the speaker clear, they pipe in a canned audience to make it seem like there are still people there without overpowering the person presenting. At least this is what I've heard

...and a year later they fired him. For generations of us, Whitmire *was* Kermit. There will always be originalists who miss Jim, and rightly so - but Steve did a great job of capturing his spirit and his overall sound, and Jim would have been proud. It is, of course, inevitable that Kermit's voice must change from time to time - the nature of an immortal muppet. But the original replacement was absolutely necessary after Jim left us so soon. Eventually corporate started taking Kermit in weird new directions with content that nobody liked, and needed a fall guy. You got to love how they pretended Whitmire had total creative control of the character, and that HE was the problem. As far as I'm concerned, Steve Whitmire was the voice of Jim Henson in those meetings where he clashed with the higher-ups and their writers, trying to keep Kermit where Jim would have wanted him, and they preferred to throw out the whole thing rather than listen. I'm sure Vogel is a good guy, but he sounds like a lazy coworker's impression of Kermit, both to people familiar with Henson AND Whitmire's character. Worst of all, his unnecessary replacement was a cynical executive decision simply so they could stray further from Jim's vision without pushback.

About the audience, don't worry guys. Usually their reactions are lowered down and cut so that we can hear the speaker better in the video. I assure you, they were probably laughing alongside Kermit's masterful jokes.

Man I miss Kermit's good voice.

“Conspiracy of craziness” I’m not sure exactly why but that made me tear up. I think it’s easy to become really cynical in this world but when i find myself watching a talking frog in the middle of the night, the world seems just a little bit better.

This the deepest Kermit has ever been. Truly the Best TED Talk of the Decade.

Kermit is here to show that green is infact, a creative colour.

I love the fact that every time Jim Henson's name and photo is brought up everybody's applauses for him. Respect to you Jim

@@MorganBondelid This is Steve Whitmire's Kermit, and yes, he is absolutely speaking from firsthand experience! Jim Henson and many of the other original Muppet performers (though Steve has been around long enough to be considered right up there with the originals) were like father figures to him.

Honestly, Kermit basically is the spiritual soul of Jim in a character, when played by the right person of course.

I would absolutely be beside myself if I found out Kermit the Frog was hosting a local show or a big one like TED. I would pay any price.

I just spent 23 minutes listening to advice from a talking frog. What a wonderful world we do live in.

Just over two minutes in and we have one pep talk, one physical assault on a talking frog and one Casablanca quote. A dapper start if I do say.

Kermit goes from teaching ABCs on Sesame Street from being a leader and a performer and making people laugh with The Muppets and now teaching about creativity on TED

IT's 2019 almost 2020 and im listening to a frog talking about creativity. KZread is recommending me this 4 years to late.

Why was a legend like Kermit at TedX and not at actual TED?

I think the best piece of advice Kermit could ever give on the big screen is: "Life's like a movie, write your own ending keep believing, keep pretending."

I didn't think I could enjoy this more but the screen grab they chose for external links is one of Kermit taking a sip. "But that's none of my business." We have come full-circle.

I had the hardest time accepting that Kermit the frog is not infact a walking talking living puppet. He is infact a normal puppet.

Steve was great, but sadly the "real" Kermit fades further away with every new performer. They don't teach people how to be a person like Jim Henson was.

I felt Kermit when he was practically scared and kinda choked.

Jim Henson was Kermit and Kermit was Jim. He created the character back in the 50's on Sam and Friends. No one could replace him. Steve Whitmire did a decent job over the years. He just didn't have the gusto that Jim had with Kermit. Because a large part of Kermit was Jim's personality.

I love how effective Kermit is. He can directly discuss the efforts of 'behind the scenes' people who help to bring it all together; including one man who "has a hand in everything I do." All this without diminishing the suspension of disbelief. That's the creative genious of Jim Henson's legacy, the power of puppeteering and the magic that is Kermit The Frog and the Muppets. Pure gold at the end of the rainbow.

This video is absolutely inspirational. Everything he is saying is 100% true. I have a strong passion to create movies, to tell stories, to create. And when you make movies, you definitely need friends, because you're working as a team with the actors, producers, and cinematographers to help you tell your creative narrative. Creativity really does let you be a kid again. When you act, you're being a fool. But you're being a fool who can make others go through any emotion you want them to go through. Without creativity, where would we be? We don't need any of this to survive as a species, but we do it because it's fun, we're passionate about it. I will always remember that sentence: "not doing it is not an option." You truly are a great speaker, Kermit. Thank you. 😊

I love this so much from little lines like” I borrowed as much of his ideas as I can without being sued for plagiarism” 4:15 to the whole concept of Kermit the frog from Jim Henson studios giving this presentation on creativity.
