@@The_CuriosityHub Yes, wrestling has never made a lot of logical sense, but back then, you could “suspend your disbelief”, especially when 2 guys are putting on something that’s as close to realistic as the parameters of pro wrestling will allow. When I was a kid, in the 80’s, I went to a lot of live shows. I never met one person at a show that admitted they believed wrestling was all legit. They would say “oh, it’s all fake”, and 15 minutes later, a cop is telling them they have to calm down. That’s because they were getting a little too aggressive when berating heels on their way back to the locker room, for doing something “heelish”, but realistic. These two jokers, Moxley and Page, are spilling an offensive amount of blood, for nothing. It’s not believable. It’s just 2 guys carving each other’s foreheads, and it’s stupid, and low class.

It's not even just Moxley blading every week. It's his portrayal as the tough street brawler and he is often the only guy that ends up bleeding and gets the crap kicked out of him. If you’re going to have wrestlers use foreign objects, you have to tell the audience through storytelling why they’re doing that. “I like to drink blood.” So Moxley’s a drunk vampire, and to say that Page looks like one of the villains from Blazing Saddles would be too much of a compliment for him. When Bret and Austin had an Iron Man match, they opened it with Steve running, jumping and pounding on Bret. That worked for the story they were telling. The Last Man Standing match is derived from the Texas Death Match. Texas Death is a pinfall followed by a 10 count. Last Man Standing eliminated the need for a pinfall.
Somewhare Dory Funk Sr, Who I believe has been credited with inventing the Texas death match, Is totally embarrassed for these two
From someone who was 9-13 during the peak Attitude Era…F*ck anybody comparing Moxley to Austin on any metric possible in Wrestling.
Going off of Wikipedia, in a Texas Deathmatch, a wrestler must be pinned to a 3-count or made to submit/rendered unconscious _before_ the referee will begin a ten-count (essentially Last Man Standing with an extra step). Once Moxley submitted, _then_ a 10-count was supposed to start; if he stayed down for the count, that's the end of the match. If he got back up, it ain't over yet. That is not what happened. Moxley submitted, and that was the end of the match. That is not a Texas Deathmatch by the definition; it's just another themed No DQ/Hardcore/"lazy booking" match. Same story as with the exploding ring match (although in that case, to be fair, it was a botch): if you can't deliver the goods, don't promise the goods.
It’s almost shocking when Mox DOESN’T blade.
I'd like to mention that Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhal in Brokeback Mountain were 1000x the men Adam Page is. Also their gay sex scene with 0 lube was much more realistic than anything in this match.
Hopefully AEW keeps booking shit that inspires Corny rants because these moments are the only time I enjoy being a wrestling fan in 2023.
The minute I saw the brick spot, I said to myself," Bill Watts would have beat the shit out of Moxley and Paige then fired them both".

That confused the hell out of me too. Apparently it was a knockout count, not a countout count
Love this. Totally worth the wait.
Texas death match rules were not what Ihave ever watched in AEW , You go until there is a pinfall or submission then the loser of the fall or submission has 30 seconds to be on Their feet and it goes until someone can't conntinue, I watched a simple no DQ street fight match , Cornette is right.
Moxley doing deathmatches is just what Moxley does. It's like getting mad at a dog for barking. I'm more interested in why Page does so much of this, though. I'd say it's about trying to prove he's not actually as wimpy, whiny, or soft as he comes across but that's how he CHOOSES to come across. It seems he could just... stop doing that instead of maiming himself to prove he's not soft.

Exactly. It's like getting angry with Jimmy Jacobs because he enjoys dog-collar matches. It's his weird fet!sh thing, don't look too deep into it or you'll just be freaked out.

Well, he can’t wrestle, so he has to resort to hardcore stuff to get people to watch him “wrestle”

I still remember when Adam Page won the AEW World title and looked at The Young Bucks like he was asking if it was ok if he won it.Shit was pathetic and laughable.

@@alysone685 Yeah really,Adam Page needs to find a new career profession because wrestling isn't his calling.I do like the buckshot lariat though.
Jim Cornette your are a legend and so is the artist of the these sketches 😂
If anyone needs any further proof that Meltzer has lost his mind, just remember he gave this match five stars…
Cornette and Brian's ad had more heat than the rivalry of Moxley and Page XD
I laughed my head off literally 3 seconds in, the sigh was expected but still funny.
We all know why Moxley was booted out of WWE now and Brock Lesnar didn’t wanna work with him he’s a joke
There's no way I'd patronise a Waffle House nor any food, service or retail establishment where Jon Moxley was an employee. I don't want hepatitis & plasma all over my order.
Hearing this review makes me glad we skipped it. We saw a glimpse of it while looking for the end. Page had the wire knucks on his hand while Goon was resting on the ropes. We hit skip fast to not see anymore of that part.
My favorite part was outside of this match, where his wife was bleating about how Moxley doesn't get enough credit for being a great technician. I laughed half my asscheek off.
Moxley is one of the only stars AEW has, they arent going to fire him. Him going there with Jericho is the reason AEW even got this big.
