@@The_CuriosityHub Yes, wrestling has never made a lot of logical sense, but back then, you could “suspend your disbelief”, especially when 2 guys are putting on something that’s as close to realistic as the parameters of pro wrestling will allow. When I was a kid, in the 80’s, I went to a lot of live shows. I never met one person at a show that admitted they believed wrestling was all legit. They would say “oh, it’s all fake”, and 15 minutes later, a cop is telling them they have to calm down. That’s because they were getting a little too aggressive when berating heels on their way back to the locker room, for doing something “heelish”, but realistic. These two jokers, Moxley and Page, are spilling an offensive amount of blood, for nothing. It’s not believable. It’s just 2 guys carving each other’s foreheads, and it’s stupid, and low class.

It's not even just Moxley blading every week. It's his portrayal as the tough street brawler and he is often the only guy that ends up bleeding and gets the crap kicked out of him. "I'm gonna take you outside the ring and beat the crap out of you". "Whoops, I just got my butt kicked.". If his character was smart, he'd keep everything in the ring.

If you’re going to have wrestlers use foreign objects, you have to tell the audience through storytelling why they’re doing that. “I like to drink blood.” So Moxley’s a drunk vampire, and to say that Page looks like one of the villains from Blazing Saddles would be too much of a compliment for him. When Bret and Austin had an Iron Man match, they opened it with Steve running, jumping and pounding on Bret. That worked for the story they were telling. These guys - wait, why are they mad at each other again? I’m lost.

Going off of Wikipedia, in a Texas Deathmatch, a wrestler must be pinned to a 3-count or made to submit/rendered unconscious _before_ the referee will begin a ten-count (essentially Last Man Standing with an extra step). Once Moxley submitted, _then_ a 10-count was supposed to start; if he stayed down for the count, that's the end of the match. If he got back up, it ain't over yet. That is not what happened. Moxley submitted, and that was the end of the match. That is not a Texas Deathmatch by the definition; it's just another themed No DQ/Hardcore/"lazy booking" match. Same story as with the exploding ring match (although in that case, to be fair, it was a botch): if you can't deliver the goods, don't promise the goods.

Moxley doing deathmatches is just what Moxley does. It's like getting mad at a dog for barking. I'm more interested in why Page does so much of this, though. I'd say it's about trying to prove he's not actually as wimpy, whiny, or soft as he comes across but that's how he CHOOSES to come across.
