I'd agree with you but the way they had Punk beat him wasn't crazy unrealistic - First of all, they showed Wardlow had Punk beat and was about to get the 3 count until MJF told him to stop the pin at 2 and keep powerbombing Punk - and it's not like Punk kipped up and hit him with a GTS for the win, he got a lucky roll up while Wardlow was being distracted by MJF again. It actually made sense and did what it needed to for Wardlow - dominating Punk all match did more for him than all the weeks of beating local jobber talent combined. When he turns on MJF he has potential to be a star or at least propel himself to the ME scene.

There were TWO options they could've went with that would've been better. 1. MJF is pissed that Punk looks like he's going to beat the count, so he grabs a steel chair and hits Punk with it a few times. 2. After the table spot, MJF yells at Wardlow to Powerbomb him again, but on the concrete. Wardlow throws Punk into the ring instead (the count is already at 8), but MJF gets in Wardlows face and yells at him, causing Wardlow to get counted out.

It should have been a DQ when Punk went thru the table. Thats actually what I was expecting because Wardlow refused to do it the first time. Since when was it not a DQ to use furniture? I know in title matches in WWE JR would say stuff like "The ref is giving some leeway because this is a title match" but in a normal TV match, it should always be a DQ, unless the ref doesnt see it.

To add to that, if they cared about the rules they could frame this is such a way that it would make perfect sense for all involved: -MJF tells Wardlow to powerbomb him on the concrete/through a table, whatever. The ref warns Wardlow he'll be disqualified if he does that. Wardlow decides--reasonably, since he's clearly winning the match--to throw him in the ring and pin him first. CM Punk turns the tables and wins. MJF blows a gasket at Wardlow for disobeying him (and losing, too!). Rules make this kind of thing possible, but for whatever reason, AEW (and most modern wresting, let's be honest) don't seem to understand their value at all...

My only issue was that they should have ended it by DQ at the powerbomb thru the table. MJF should have ordered him to do it, Wardlow refuses cause of his wim streak, MJF insists, Wardlow does it, DQ. MJF says "good job" Wardlow knocks his hand away, then we get the same ending to the whole thing we got. Wardlow loses without getting pinned, the ref doesnt get buried by watching a guy go thru a table and it not be a DQ... Im shocked that Corny didnt pitch that finish himself or mention that there should have been a DQ.

I felt like this did everything it needed to do in one pretty clean go. Wardlow got to go powerbomb mode on Punk, MJF got to add another future ass kicking to the list for sure, Punk gets to save his streak for the MJF feud and beyond if he wins that while still looking like he got his ass beat by Wardlow, and Shawn Spears... still exists still I suppose. Punk beating the 10 count and winning after getting sent to absolute powerbomb hell was excessive unless you figure Wardlow phoned in the last few powerbombs on purpose because he's sick of MJF's bullshit, but that's to the point of overthinking this.

I'm surprised Cornette didn't rant on the ending, saying how unbelievable it was for Punk to all of a sudden pop up at the very end and no-sell with a quick rollup. And how the rollup made Wardlow's powerbombs look weak because apparently they weren't strong enough to keep Punk down, despite Punk receiving the MOST AMOUNT of powerbombs in a Wardlow match! Punk BURIED Wardlow and his powerbombs when you stop to think about it. Jim probably isn't ranting because of his favorable bias towards Punk, like how he used to be for Cody. I don't know if this was all Punk's idea like usual, or if he had to compromise to Tony this time, but this was the first BAD Punk segment! A lot of AEW fans were unhappy/upset too with the finish.

I feel like this had all the right pieces to be a good segment. And while they may have succeeded in the long run, they also did far too much IMO. The powerbomb through the table seemed unnecessary but if you absolutely had to do it, do it after 2 or 3 powerbombs, not after he already taken 8 of them. Jim is absolutely right, there is no excuse for ANYONE to beat the count after suffering all that punishment (even with Aubrey's slowest count ever). It also felt weird after all of that for Wardlow to be able to go down to a simple small package; realistically Punk shouldn't have been able to do anything at that point. Or they could have cut out the table spot all together and just kept it all in the ring and still got the same finish, and it wouldn't have felt as excessive. I'm sure the intentions were good for this segment but it was a bit much IMO.

Aldis left the Strictly Business stable, but wanted to show there was no hard feeling between him and Latimer, so they shook hands and hugged, then Adonis hit Aldis and Storm with low blows. Latimer then hit Aldis with 4 piledrivers, the last in a steel chair. And Aldis sold it well, with convulsions, Mickie James came out to be with him, and the EMTs took him out on a stretcher. CM Punk took 8 Power-bombs, including one on the Table, then manages to come back from the Slowest 10 count in wrestling history. All so he could beat Wardlow with a Roll-up because Tiny Khan doesn't want to do a DQ finish. That match killed the momentum Wardlow had with an EVP-style booking. Then after all this they pretty much make Wardlow seem less important than Shawn Spears... AEW is showing more and more it's just all the worse parts of late WCW/ECW and TNA all rolled up in on. It also deserved the massive ratings plummet it got this week from Dynamite and Rampage.

Surprised by this review! Jim was nowhere near as scathing of this match as wrestling KZreadr BC Amplified, who screamed throughout his show about how unbelievable it was, it made Wardlow look weak etc. etc. - and Jim is the biggest AEW critic I know outside of the WWE shills!

Punk shares Jim's politics. That's why he will never go in on him.

The conflict in Wardlow's mentality as the match went on and the powerbomb count went up was fantastic. Once he finally frees himself from the shackles of MJF, he'll be one of the top guys in that entire company for the foreseeable future. I can't wait for Punk v. MJF and I can't wait for MJF v. Wardlow because I would love to see what kind of story they try to tell if we're building the Legend of Wardlow's powerbombs, cause then, if they ever do clash, MJF will all but make sure that the powerbomb is banned from their match. Great stuff but since yesterday's Dynamite, I'm a little worried that the steam might by fading from the idea pool of "How many times can they meet before they go one on one?" I would love for it to last until the Revolution PPV the first weekend in March, but, that's a long while yet to go and we already seem like we are at that point in the story where the match is gonna happen sooner rather than later between Punk and MJF, I hope they can prove me wrong, but it's really feeling like we'll get the match we've all been dying to see burnt off on a Dynamite, leaving Revolution with one less match to be desired

Just rewatched the DiBiase/Freebirds match. DiBiase took a piledriver on the studio floor and rolled himself back into the ring in what would’ve been a 3-count by the ref. Then he kicked out of 3-4 consecutive piledrivers right in front of the ref. No distraction of the ref, no Terry just picking him up to add injury to injury. The recollection of that moment is WAY off.

The one and only knock on Wardlow, for me, is that he’s only 6’2”. Wished he was a little taller. However, when you’re in a company of guys that are all 5’8”, I guess that’s ok.

After MJF set up the table, and Wardlow powerbombed Punk thru it.. the most natural or convenient way for the segment to end was to have Aubrey DQ Wardlow for using the Table. Everyone does table spots but it's not considered a weapon or DQ?.. thought that was why they had no DQ matches or TLC matches.

Roll up is a more powerful finisher than a powerbomb. More powerful than 9 powerbombs in fact.

I could see going long but the finish worked for me - Punk was too "beat up" to come off the ropes or lift him up - he had the energy for the small package finish though

Third powerbomb, exhausted Punk, roll up, short but I think the shorter end would piss off MJF more.

I think punk hurt wardlow even with the distraction from mjf. He took way too many finishes and went through a table. Wardlowv was fresh still. Should've been after the first or second or maybe even the third powerbomb not after 7 or 8

There was a very good comparison video out there of Bret hart getting powerbombed by Diesel and later wins with a roll up. Nice homage if intended
