    I don't understand why those people find the word "professional wrestler" so offensive. Stop wrestling if you're ashamed of the term that's been used by all those who established the very industry you're in.

    Eddie Guerrero winning the WWE title. Chris Benoit winning the world title. The image of the referee handing him the title, but he’s on his knees and just crying is the image of the century, and Eddie Guerrero embracing Chris after the title win was amazing. That’s what I believe Jim is talking about. I mean anyone can win a title and it change hands, but it’s an art to put on the type of match against Triple H and Shawn Michaels as well as Brock Lesnar, respectively

  • @CoffeeStain-Music
    @CoffeeStain-Music4 жыл бұрын

    This is what you get when the marks are in the ring and not in the crowd. We know wrestling is a work. We've known for decades and generations. Our grandparents knew. This isn't some new ground broken in the internet age. Fans want to buy into the gimmick, though. Even today the most over gimmicks are ones that are protected like when Matt was Broken or Bray Wyatt right now. The fans don't care who the "real person" is unless you're an old legend.

    @@BeeRawb Yes. They knew. There's even an old poll out of a North Carolina newspaper that backs this up in the early 80s where 97% of people said they thought wrestling was fake and this is in the middle of the super kayfabed era of southern wrestling. People just reacted to the shows differently because there was more suspension of disbelief and it was easier to get sucked into what the talent were selling. As a kid I had a teacher who was in her 50's and mocked a kid for being a big wrestling fan because its "all fake". My grandparents made remarks about it being fake when I watched it at their place. I also remember Al Snow telling the story of him telling his grandmother that he wanted to be a wrestler and her saying "why do you want to do that? Don't you know its fake?" People have known decades before the internet and decades before Vince Russo started doing that silly nonsense in WCW in 2000. Its just back then they lived it and had to work hard to sell that they were real. Today they just play video games during the day and play wrestler at night and act like a bunch of normal dudes. That's why there's also no true superstars. Fans don't want normal dudes. They want larger than life characters like when we were kids. When I was 7 I knew the Undertaker wasn't really dead. When I was a little older I knew in real life Kurt Angle would beat everyone, but they worked to sell the fans a story. Now guys just do their fake little match and shake hands at the end and laugh on Twitter. The business isn't dead because of it, but its whittled down to the most hardcore fans largely due to it. Kids and casual fans don't want to watch fake fighters being regular people.

  • @CoffeeStain-Music

    And yes heels were legit hated but its because they sold it. No one wants to be hated today. Everyone wants to be a cool heel that isn't really evil but just kind of a dick. Then you got the lazy folk who want to say faces and heels don't matter that way they can just go out there and work spot fests to get a few gifs RT'ed on Twitter.

    I find it hard to believe that riots broke out during the territory days were started by people who knew wrestling wasn't real. I can't imagine being a fan and wanting to participate in an angry mob knowing full well that the villain was simply doing the job he was paid to do. I can't imagine fans knew Junk Yard Dog didn't really get blinded by The Fabulous Freebirds and sent him sympathy cards and money anyway. I can't imagine those same fans willingly pulled a gun out on The Freebirds at later event in an attempt to protect a "blinded" JYD if they knew it was all a story.

    @@BeeRawb See, the thing back back then there was something called "heat" which could get very real. No one really gets heat anymore. Everyone knew it was a show, though. People just got invested in it more because the talent were committed and sold themselves better. Today's wrestlers look and act like any dude I can find at any gym in the country. Even when riots broke out it was like "yeah we know its not real BUT WE AREN'T GONNA LET THAT GUY SAY THAT ABOUT US" If today's heel wrestlers weren't afraid of being truly hated by the fans there'd still be scuffles and trash thrown in the ring at least. But now they act like its fake, they tell you its fake, they work like its fake.

    Corny, why haven’t you watched NJPW? Guys like Cobb, Ishii and Shingo are the living embodiment of what you and I and the rest of the level headed wrestling fan base believe wrestling should be, yet I don’t think I’ve ever even heard the words New Japan come out of your mouth. Check out Moxley and Ishii from this year’s G1 or Ishii vs Cobb from the same tournament. Moxley has been doing fantastic work bringing legitimacy back to his career and the work Josh Barnett has done has been phenomenal. He has legitimate shoot wrestling matches against legit shooters and submits the fuck out of people. He’s also hosting a tournament called Bloodsport, which from my understanding is a worked shoot promotion. Don’t get me wrong, I love to hear Jimmy verbally destroy every goofball Indy cocksucker today, but it’d be cool to hear his thoughts on one of those other topics I mentioned above. Thanks guys! Brian, you’re the fuckin man

    There's no such thing as a sport where the outcome is traditionally pre-determined. It goes against the very basis of sport, which is real competition based on rules. So, wrestling is not a sport, but it is tough and athletic and entertaining. I don't know why certain wrestlers and fans aren't satisfied with that.

    Wrestlers get torn muscles,broken limbs,serious head injuries and some have even died from them if that isn't the definition of a sport what does it matter if it is predetermined. The competitors have to be athletes just like other sportsmen. You can be killed in the ring just the same as a football field. So it is a sporting contest.

  • @brianm2881

    @@christempleton9763 It's not a sporting contest. The 'competitors' are not competing against one another. In fact, they're cooperating in order to portray a competitive fight in the same way actors might portray a scene. Sport has nothing to do with how many physical injuries you might sustain. It's to do with actual competition. The only competition in wrestling is wrestlers striving to win the attention of the audience, but they're no different from theatre players in that sense.

That said , why would these uninteresting & un-clever “performance artists” run right into the fan blades like this? Really there is an answer & it’s because many people will gladly accept negative attention in lieu of no attention. It’s not only pathetic, but it is indicative of dysfunctional upbringings ( which is too bad as that part is not their fault , however the personality traits it has caused IS their responsibility to either address & work on )
