This reminds me of an altercation between me and a former significant other. He put hands on me and when I defended myself he told everyone I did so without provocation. I agree by the time Punk's injury heals and he's 100% again, it'll be at the end of his contract anyway and I can't realistically see Punk re-signing with AEW. Punk will either go back into retirement or, possibly, he may enter into talks with WWE. Sounds crazy, I know....but with Vince being put out to pasture.....I can see Hunter sitting down and talking serious turkey with Punk, probably not for a full-time schedule as we see the fruits of that labor. Punk just isn't durable enough to go full-time anymore, not a knock on his abilities, it's just Father Time catching up with him, happens to all of us sooner or later. My original thoughts on where Punk would land if he chose to come back would have been Ring Of Honor. But now that ROH is under the Tony Khan umbrella of companies, I don't see Punk going there. Other possibilities include Impact where he wrestled before for a short time in the mid 2000's and possibly, MLW or the Billy Corgan NWA. NWA might be a good pick because of the old-school gravitas that the NWA name still holds for those old-schoolers like Punk and also the Chicago connection with Corgan. So, my guess would be come March or April of next year.....Punk is either going to retire again and do something else, go back to WWE, or go wrestle on the NWA Powerrr program. If I was a betting man, my pick would be that Punk goes to NWA Powerrr due to what I outlined above. For those that think that this prediction is crazy....consider the fact that Punk surreptitiously showed up in AAW, a small local promotion in Berwyn (a Chicago suburb) under a mask and delivered a GTS to a heel in the ring. This happened a short time after his last fight with the UFC. Point being, Punk always values loyalty and always looks out for his Chicago homies.....Billy Corgan being a fellow Chicago celebrity will factor greatly when Punk's free agency begins, should he want to stay in wrestling.
