oscars that year were really rigged the fact Shakespeare in love won over Saving private Ryan clearly shows how big an influence Harvey had on the academy that they time and again overlooked Spielberg. They did that again to Munich.

He won Golden Globe for Actor in a DRAMA but then wasn't for Critics Choice, Bafta, and SAG and then his Oscar nomination was replaced for Edward Norton for American history X which had no precursors.

He won back to back Golden Globes.. one for Best Actor Drama (Truman Show) the following year Best Actor Musical/Comedy (Man in the Moon)… and didn’t get an Oscar nomination either year. Usually the GG winner in a Drama is an automatic nomination but that year they screwed Jim. He was equally robbed for Eternal Sunshine.. Kate Winslet was nominated but for some reason her acting partner wasn’t. I don’t know. Some weird bias against that dude. It’s too bad.

He deserves an oscar for this presentation.

Yeahyeahyeah. Two movies where he was won some Oscar that year, Eternal Sunshine being the otherone. Oscars have always been politics and Jamie Foxx winning from Ray was a lot of that + you usually get way more easily one from biopic role (aand he played a blind guy as a black man). For best picture Million Dollar Baby is also just way more classic Oscar friendly movie from the look, feel to the story. Eternal Sunshine was kinda just a bit ahead of it's time to get taken that seriously at Oscars to win big. There is also a lot of that, when there is say 3 Amazing performances nominated and slower next year they might kinda give the Oscar as a "late one" (Emmy's are way worse with that tho). Like DiCaprio's Oscar from Revenant was quite clearly more so from Wolf/body of work than the spesific performance even if it was his hardest one to do. Then there is all of disabilities, illnesses, minorities and all that jazz. There is who campaigns hardest for the Oscars majorly effecting it (Saving Private Ryan famously losing to Shakespeare in Love because Weinstein kinds reinvented how to campaign). Then there is the fact that people who are the voters have openly said that pretty much nobody watches all of the movies.. like even from the biggest chategories and people also way more easily vote for projects where is their friends. So I wouldn't take it too seriously. Especially today 😂 What, they were atleast talking abou a rule of race quota for a movie, which is just Ridiculous. They nominated The Black Panther in the best movie chategory 🤦‍♂️ Asked if people would want best blockbuster chategory. To leave from tv version showing of best filmographer Oscar for adds and the indrusty got really mad since... these guys literally shoot the movie and are Big part of the look. There have been so much in past years to even say for them trying to stay relevant and doing all the wrong moves. Hollywood even barely makes enough of Oscar-worthy movies to be nominated in a year these days so.. yeah

Watching Roberto win and being given the Oscar by Sophia Loren is the longest and most treasured memory I have of the Academy Awards. His outrageous joy and spontaneity as he leaped across the chairs in his quest to get on stage is something I’ll never forget, nor the exquisite beauty of Ms. Loren.

I grew up watching Jim Carrey as a comedy actor with iconic roles such as The Mask, Ace Ventura, etc. He was brilliant in those roles and he owned those and no one will ever be able to top that. Until one day in college on a random afternoon in my room, I watched "Eternal sunshine of spotless mind" only to be blown away by his acting. I still shy away from re-watching that movie as it takes time to recover from all those rush of emotions. Jim Carrey, without a doubt, is the best actor across generations with an incredible acting range. I wish him good health and happiness with all my heart!❤

I was too young then to appreciate this actor. And I was growing up in a different country then so a lot was foreign to me. Now I love this guy. I didn’t even watch many of his movies, but there’s a lot to appreciate him. He has a brilliant sense of humor and natural acting. And I like he’s speaking up about a lot that is really going on around us.
