JILL, you're my hero. After viewing your first Today segment, I made a mammogram appointment after many years. I was informed of a spot that needed more examination to find it is only a cyst! I'll be following all orders from my doctor about tests etc...from now on. It is but for YOU that I did what I needed to do, and I'm sending a big HUG AND THANKS to you from Illinois. Jill imam so proud of you. I was diagnosed in Oct, surgery in Dec, and became cancer free. I was shocked with the “what the heck just happened to me.” Jill, it’s ok to tell people you are just ok… and ok is a hard time. It does get better.

I was diagnosed in February 2001 with breast cancer. I had bilateral mastectomy then chemo. Just saw my doctor & did all of my blood work & I'm cancer free. It is rough to go through, but doable. Emotionally you have a lot to deal with. It is an amputation & it messes with a woman's self esteem. But life goes on & thank God, I'm still here...& I plan on staying for a good long while.

As a BC survivor who got mammograms every year since I was 40, I encourage you to do your self breast exams. I found my lump 6 months between my mammogram screenings. I have dense breasts and the mammogram did not detect the cancer. I am lucky, I caught it at stage 2. It was in a few lymph nodes and I choose to move forward with Chemo before surgery and radiation after surgery. I choose no reconstruction. I am flat, and I love it! Ladies, please do your self exams. Its very simple to do yourself or your partner can. Its important to know your body.

You’re on your way to being cancer free Jill. Be patient with your recovery, it takes a long time. I’m 10 years cancer free this year. I had diagnostic mammograms every 6 months and it didn’t catch it. I felt the tumor and pushed to have an ultrasound and there it was. I opted for a bilateral mastectomy and have zero regrets. I took tamoxifen for 5’years as I was pre menopausal. If you are the same be prepared for the hot flashes, which was my only side effect. They were brutal. I’m speaking honestly as you need to know what to prepare for. There is so much more but you are strong and beautiful and you WILL be OK and you can handle it. Sending you strength, courage and wellness.

You are an inspiration to share your journey and your recent update you shared on the Today show this morning so resignated with me. I’m a BC survivor 3x. I had the BRACA test the 1st time I was diagnosed in 2015 which was negative and does not run in my family so I am a very unique case I’ve been told by all my Dr’s but believe I did not have the best Dr for my care. I have since changed my Dr and team and have the right team of Dr’s going forward. I do agree Chemo sucks having gone thru it myself including the red devil. All I can say is hang in there you will get thru it you’re strong and have family and friends to support you and remain positive. I believe that’s what got me through my journey and I’m still here today having Stage 3.

So many of us have gone through this and although difficult for some, having that positive attitude is key to success - mentally, physically and spiritually. Do you have hard days? Absolutely! But you don't have to dwell there; cry, stomp your feet, whatever but get up and greet the day! As Jill said, it's better to come to work than wallow in self pity.

'Grateful that we caught it.' Treatment plans differ per person. Important thing is Jill is alive. Sharing she is saving lives. Genetic testing is amazing. Braca test identifies multiple cancers. It should be covered by insurance & Medicare/Medicaid. Men as well as women should be tested. The question is at what age should the testing begin. Repeat the test every decade of life for life.

Praise God!! That was my attitude too. Diagnosed 2021.

Going through the same right now. Stage two, one node (so far).

My daughter-in-law was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. She has completed both chemotherapy & radiation. She had never had a mammogram before because no one in her family had breast cancer. I pray that she will remain cancer free. I don’t believe she has had genetic testing.

My sister did this and more to save herself from breast cancer to having found it during her elective mastectomy. My sister's story is far more interesting.

Genetic testing is something that should be careful considered with your doctor. It is a personal choice. It may change options with your treatment plan if you have cancer. Your life insurance company is under no obligation to continue to cover you if your genetic test is BRCA positive.

Honestly, it depends on the person. Some people choose reconstruction, others do not. At 44, I chose to go flat. I could've proceeded with a lumpectomy, but I chose a double mastectomy. Reconstruction was never a thought. I am a very confident person and no breasts won't change this. I am more than my breasts.

Specifically, what genetic testing are they referring to?

I had the genetic testing after stage 1 it was negative Supposedly and then niece got it I also had thyroid and uterine I don't believe that testing
