Jig for punching or stamping letters straight

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is just a small jig for stamping or punching letters (or numbers) on metal pieces. Usually this could be done with some tape, or some kind of straight edge. I wanted to get the same spacing between the letters. In this example I used another punch as a spacer, but one could easily make a half sized spacer in for example.
I stumbled on this idea from Tom Walter. He had one made in metal : • Video and I was thinking this could be made in wood too. All credits goes to Tom!
I have used this jig a couple of times, and it works with good result every time!
If I would make this again, I would shim the middle part a bit thinner so that the punchers/stamps isnt that loose. There is not much play, but I would like it to be forced down a bit.
This is made out of some scrap/left over red oak strips (trims) and some 6 mm plywood.

This video was shot before I had my anvil restored. So there is still some rust on it here, just so you dont think that it has rusted again. Also, I'm trying this without music this time...

haha. Sorry! I made this a while ago. I guess I had to wait until you were finished before posting it. :-) Haha. I love the "rustic" word that can save any project. It's like the word "henka" we sometimes use as a "variation" of a technique when practicing martial arts (if the technique was somewhat flawed, plenty instructors gets away with a henka). :-) Thanks my friend! All the best to you!!

@@dekeros-recreationalwoodwo6456 I was put into a trance by that word "henka" once - we were out having dinner dinner and I'd had a few beers and a couple of whiskeys and was getting sleepy - one of the kids there - about 9 years old - went through about 300 pokemons in a book explaining "This one changes into this one (change into = henka)". It went on for about an hour or more - I think some minor brain damage occured lol. His mother rescued me in the end.

In the past I have used a 5x7 dot font, I print the number onto a sticky label or tape/ it to the work piece then slowly tap in each dot by hand with a very fine sharp punch making sure to centre the punch on each dot. Time consuming but it does leave a straight consistent mark.

work out the thickness of the die and the required spacing between each digit, that way you can make spacers to go in the slot to keep the stamped digits evenly spaced. for example if the die has a 4mm digit and you want 1mm spacing between digits make a series of 5mm blocks to fitt the slot in the jig, after each strike move the die along by one block.

I'm sorry, I don't sell them and I would happily give it to you, knowing it would beuseful to you, but the problem is that the metal stamps has different outer sizes. My set is maybe not exactly the size you have, depending on the brands of the stamps. I dont know if you are using tape as a reference line today, but that is what I used before making this.
