George Habib In those wonderful days, men were men! What has sadly happened to this country is the feminization of America! In 1963 there were 20 women in the United States Congress, now there are 147! Many of them are disgusting, disrespectful emotional wrecks like like Speaker Pelosi, Maxine Waters, Ocasio-Cortez etc... Emotional women also have power positions in the media which has trivialized political discussion! Men have been feminized, shouting, hollering and interrupting each other during debates. During these debates, did you notice there wasn't a studio audience? It is so silly and juvenile to have a raucous studio audience applauding and shouting!!! Just look at how disgracefully Attorney General William Barr was treated the other day by the Democrats! Politics is now in the toilet!

Yes, JFK was brilliant. He could read 1200 words a minute. He could read 5 newspapers in an hour and a book in a couple of hours. For those who think he couldn't write, he wrote almost in their entirety, the Berlin Wall Speech and the Civil Rights Speech in June of 1963. He threw out Sorenson's text becuase he didn't like it. The most well written, rhythmically flowing, easily readable portions of Profiles in Courage are the intro & the conclusion which he wrote.

Sorensen refused to take the credit he deserved for years, though he performed all the heavy lifting, content with a brief shoutout as Kennedy's "research assistant." But make no mistake who drafted and birthed this book into existence. Which makes the dedication to another man's wife all the more surreal. Perhaps Ted was trying to send his boss a subtle message about keeping his nose in his books and his ass out of possible scandals before he ran into the clichéd career-destroying affair. - - Kennedy’s public perception was bolstered by the immediate damage control and legal efforts undertaken by a group of Kennedy confidantes and advisers, including ex-defense secretary Robert McNamara and JFK speechwriter Ted Sorensen.

From today's perspective, in my opinion, that was a really thought-provoking presidential debate!! If it were possible, I really wish that Senator Kennedy would have chosen Hubert Humphrey as his running mate in 1960. Those were two of the best postwar leaders America ever had! LBJ was really no one's cup of tea.

Tho quizical looks he gives nixon are classic, hes thinking what? He was dead right that America needed to surge forward and start getting ahead after all they were known for their great mass production What makes him so appealing is his strength of chraracter and determination.

Translation Nixon: Kennedy wants to tell us that our country is falling behind, However I surely believe that doesn't boost Moral, But who is he to judge us? Kennedy: Whos saids I shouldn't have a right to speak my mind? I have been a Law Maker and defended this Nation during WW2. My Point is, We can't live in a Fantasy World, We are far behind the Soviet Union in many ways, Mainly Scientific. While also having a Poor Lower Class. *Next Question* Nixon: Kennedy want's to hand over the Islands to the Communist, Thus would likely be a message to the Soviet Union on encouraging them to get away with more things. Kennedy: I never said that, I said we should hold all right to defend the islands like I agree with the President on, However I am also saying a Diplomatic Solution would be needed.

I don’t understand Nixon’s argument regarding prestige. His entire argument is laced with ethnocentrism. He’s using the standards of the Soviet Union to compare to the standards of America. Why can’t he understand that the standards of one culture should not dictate the standards of another. American prestige should be matured through Kennedys proposals. You better a country; you better the prestige and more importantly the people’s motivation to contribute to this prestige. Absolutely love Kennedy x

I suppose the competition between the US and USSR was of paramount importance, both in the world and at home. Remember, the question was about the decline of US prestige overseas. Great power competition means that the decline of one is almost certainly caused by the rise of another. Therefore the comparison with the USSR.

As much flaws as these guys had, they both loved their country. The JFK Nixon race was one of the closest in american history. He beat him by about 100 thousand votes. Close calls defined his life, he defeated Henry Cabin Lodge (Nixons running mate ironically) by about the same margin. But as they say in politics, a win is a win. IT was a well deserved win. These days, its all about choosing the lessor evil, or the least stupidest.

The Chinese argument was really interesting. Back then we only recognized Tawain and were prepared to defend just like S. Korea. Nixon then came along and normalized relations because he saw China as the enemy of an enemy. If only we decided to keep the door closed on China, communism wouldve fell their too and Tawain wouldve been reunited with the mainland.

My understanding is that he wrote the intro & the conclusion & did some of the research & drafted the first notes on the John Quincy Adams chapter. In addition, he read a lot of the biographies himself & he made numerous dictation tapes directing Sorenson on what he wanted done. It is not uncommon for members of Congress to author books in that fashion and have a staff member do a lot of the writing. I am sure he edited the full text as he edited all the speeches Sorenson ever wrote for him.
