I have a similar experience to Stephanie, but instead of with erasable pens, it's with multipens - I always associated them with being cheap, low-quality, and bulky in the hand. I got a Uni Jetstream multipen with 4 colors and a mechanical pencil and somehow it's one of my favorites to write with - it's comfortably hefty instead of bulky, and having 5 options to write in my planner at any time is so convenient!

I was the same, multi pens always seemed clunky and the ink was never great and the tip was too big, but when I got the Pilot Dr Grip 4+1 multi pen I was hooked, I loved how nice the grip felt in my hand since I tend to hold my pens hard and the bigger diameter eased the stress from my hand and with the Uni Style refills in the 0.38 I found that small tip and lovely ink. It's been my go-to now for almost a year. Plus I enjoy the colors they have that I can coordinate with my planner and notebooks.

Had to laugh at Stephanie's "in the 90s, we learned cursive, so we used erasable pens" right away, to be honest. In the 90s, I learned cursive in school - with a fountain pen. Lamy ABC or Pelikan (I think it was a predecessor for Pelikano, but don't quote me, it's been a hot minute). Thanks for all the fun stationery suggestions, I may have written a list XD

I wasn't so sure about fountain pens, until the "First Jetpen Haul" video where Stephanie described her Preppy and Iroshizuku Set A. That was right when Platinum had come out with the Preppy special edition "maki-e" and so I picked up pretty much her exact first order (Preppy, converter, Iroshizuku Set A). Let's just say that has led to a MUCH larger FP collection (mostly Japanese) and a sizeable ink collection now. 😄

A friend texted me about this video and the Kokuyo Saxa Scissors. I was quite curious about the video so as soon as my exercise walk was done, I looked it up, and enjoyed watching this twice. I'm going to check out the scissors more closely because I have a problem with scissors that get stickum all over the blades. I am also imagining that Ann created this video. I told my friend that I think Ann ranks as an outstanding professional given the quality of the videos I see from JetPens.

Pilot Drafting ink, I didn't realize a non-waterproof black dip pen ink would make such a difference in how I draw but not having to worry about it drying solid to the nib forever really helps to let you relax and just get to inking the piece.

I used to bear with using a ballpoint pen, gel pens tended to smudge to easily and weren't always that nice feeling. I then got into fountain pens and swore by them, only using a ballpoint when absolutely needed. In comes the Uni-Ball EnerGel, nice, comfortable, and not easily smudging, I still prefer the fountain pens, but have more respect for gel pens. Another pen that changed my mind, this time about ballpoints, the Zebra X-701. With its pressurized barrel you can write in so many different conditions, under water, upside down, it works great. On top of that it writes as smoothly as a gel pen and some of my cheaper fountain pens. All that said, I still go for my fountain pens first, but now I always carry either the EnerGel or the X-701 for quick use.

    1. Uni-Ball Powertank 1.0 - easy inkflow thanks to pressurized refill, and comfortable grip. Fluid ink, leaving no clumps, (like those cheap ballpoint refills do). Due to easily flowing ink you can adjust pressure to a minimum and write very fast gliding over the paper surface, leaving no furrows or you can press it into the paper like a typical ballpoint pen, and get thicker lines. Both without smearing or clumping. May be easily the best Ballpoint ever invented. And it writes in any position, also on wet or oil paper. My mom asked for a pen which can write upside down to solve sudokus in the bed, Powertank is a good fit for that 2. Uni-Ball Air Micro is a great experience. It gives a very smooth and skip-free writing feeling. 3. And a Kaweco Pen is a joy to write with due to its compact comfortable size, ceramic ball refill providing unifomly free flowing lines. Kaweco also turned out to be a great fidget toy. I like just twisting it in the hands, or screwing and unscrewing the cap. 4. Pilot Hi-Techpoint V5 Fineliner. Coming from Stabilo 88, this one did really change my understanding of how fineliner should feel in the hand and on paper. Great tool for writing and sketching. 5. Uni-ball Signo RT1 if you like to use every inch of you paper, that one is the tool, feels just perfect without going scratchy. Vivid intelligible skip-free lines. It easily moves Muji 0.38 to the second place in the race.

Can't use Frixion at work, too much friction on envelopes in the mail processing system ruins the lettering and mail gets returned if the address is hard to read (we have the same problem with printing on mailing labels). The Multiball is MY ENVELOPE PEN at work, and I hide it so no one picks it up off my desk. This is my second year with Hobonichi Weeks and I already have next years (from you of course) : it's just enough planner/journal and the extra pages are great for when the topic needs pages. I had the TEcho this year: the bigger daily page is nice but not having extra pages in the back is hard.

It’s the Frixion pens for me 😊 I also had the same experience of using those other erasable pens growing up. But I love them so much now especially as a lefty, I feel like I can comfortably write without worrying about smudging particularly the fineliners. Is it anyone else’s experience that the Frixion gel pens run out of ink faster than a typical pen? (It may be because I use it on Rocketbook paper which is a reusable paper, im wondering for those who use them on regular paper, if they have the same experience)

Same as Stephanie, I did not trust the frixion pens for a long time… now I own 3 (mainly testing the bodies, as the grip is kinda uncomfortable for me), I would not use them for journaling, but I do use them on my EDC and keep track of adulting things. However, the only thing I will never like is correction tape, feels awful to write on it and I hate it. I got a soft shitajiki, the Kyoei Orions Soft from your website and I LOVED IT. I did not like very much to write on my Hobonichi one (but it works amazing as a ruler)… and I saw Helen from The Coffee Monsterz Co using hers and I decided to give it a try. JetPens was the only place that had it, although only on A4, and then I realised that A5 is just half A4 and I got it anyway, cut it in half, and now I have TWO amazing A5 ones that I love and use every day. That was my discovery and I can’t imagine writing without it anymore.

Immediately related to Stephanie and Connie! I didn't know Papermate made "erasable" ball point pens, but I had a bunch of these BiC M.V.P. Erasables that had me scarred for life that all my ballpoint pens would just smudge if I ever erase them. The pen was also sooo thick and skipped a lot, so I hated learning cursive because I thought my handwriting looked so ugly due to the thickness too 🥲 I braced my self several times when I got my first FriXion pen. It's so amazing that it actually erases! I was pretty meh about the usual sticky notes I got back in school, and now almost all the sticky notes I own have a lot more character and are so much more fun to use 😆

Ballpoint pens. Since Hobonichi gives you a Jetstream pen with every planner, I tried the ones I got and they glide really well on the paper and ink globs are minimal. I'm still iffy on Frixions because the ink is still technically on the page.

I always used my fun and fancy pens at work (school). During meetings I would pull out my crappy pens. Why? because somebody ALWAYS never had a pen with them and the pen would go all around the room. Plus none of them knew how to write with a fountain pen and I was afraid some with lead hands would bend the nib if the ink failed them. I have a pen problem and I made a list just now.
