He was self taught. Incredible. I saw Jethro Tull plenty of times in the 70s in The Old Boston Gahden. Mescaline was the way to go. 😂 Check out what this Classically trained Flutist has to say about Ian Anderson. It’s pretty cool. kzread.info/dash/bejne/mX-H1NOYoc2oj7w.htmlsi=62ZUZBH7zNOQck-J

I remember back in 1970, the headmaster of my school (a Catholic priest) was very aware of social issues and used the lyrics from Aqualung to deliver a sermon about inequality. Given the fact that this was in South Africa deep in the grip of apartheid at the time, he was skating on very thin ice. A man I had the utmost respect for.

Older guy pulled up in an 80 something cutlass with it blaring in the middle of the flute solo and when he got out he asked me if I’d ever heard of Jethro Tull, said I should check them out on break or at home. Just want to say thanks if you read this Marty

One of the things that made Tull special is that they didn't fit into a specific genre. They'd go through different phases throughout their career. From a bluesy phase to an English country phase to a more rock phase to a south asian/Indian phase. They even won a Grammy for best heavy metal band in a year when their album wasn't really heavy metal. They've always been very difficult to categorize.

There's no argument that Ian Anderson is an absolute genius. Lyrically there's no one better. But Martin Barre is an awesome guitarist and Jethro Tull wouldn't have been the incredible thing it was without both of them!

Such a unique sound, been listening to Tull since I was 13 so almost 50 yrs. There's been no music since what was produced in the 70's as good as it was then. From poetic lyrics, to sound, creativity was I think at an all time high. So many good bands / artists back then. Listening to some of my favourites today while I paint at my easel.

Ian Anderson had also gone on record as saying he doesn’t with Jethro Tull to be inducted into the R&RHoF, for a variety of reasons. Don’t quote me on this, but if my memory serves right, his big reason as to why he doesn’t want to be inducted was that he feels that the R&RHoF is a mostly-American institution for American rock bands and that it wouldn’t feel right if Jethro Tull were inducted there.

I am a 66-year-old burned out hippie who has been blessed with five wonderful children, all of whom love and make music. My big three of 1970’s progressive rock and IMHO the best secular rock bands of all time are Genesis, YES, and Jethro Tull. Particularly my youngest son Jaron, who just turned 18 and graduated from high school loves these 3 bands almost to the point of obsession just like I do! I feel so blessed to be able to share this gorgeous music with all of my children, but especially with Jaron while I am still above ground!

The beginning, when the crowd roared like that, pure magic. A genuine reaction. That was no low frequency wave making your hairs stand up like a film trailer at the movie theater. The ability to set something like that off, a charge like that. Beautiful.

Saw them during their Thick As A Brick tour. They played the entire album with skits in between songs. At the end Anderson said, "Now for our next number." The place went wild. Was three rows from stage and he looked like a madman moving around the stage. Without a doubt the best concert and show I ever saw.
