What a band in the 70s love the sound of Tull with its intricate weaving of folk/rock vibes and almost medieval stirrings. Outstanding music from an outstanding era...

An extraordinary performance by one of the greatest bands in rock history.
This was the ever best band setting of Tull. I have the vinyl and play it when I dream of the "good old days".👌
These are just the best Special Editions out there. The form factor isn't as spectacular as some of the big box sets with tons of replica tickets and posters, but the essays are all brilliant, tons of great info, and the amount and quality of music and concerts is amazing. And I love the bookshelf form factor!

One of my favourite live albums, and Steven Wilson's remixes are always special. I particularly like the 5.1 mixes. This will join my almost complete collection of Tull special editions, which are great value and a delight to own.
I can remember the days when "Bursting out" was originally released vividly. I was at boarding school then, and a lot of my fellow schoolmates were Tull fans. The album had heavy rotation on everyone's stereo system, many of us could imitate Ian Anderson's stage announccements. And we urged our music teacher to play it and do a special lesson about Tull (unfortunately he refused). So I'm really excited about the release of the Inflated Edition. Thanks for your preview-.
Quite simply the greatest live album ever. I'm sure the concert used for Bursting Out was broadcast by the BBC. Was that live footage lost or never recorded to video tape? Sacrilege if it wasn't.
When I was at college (many years ago) I cut my virgin rock concert teeth on this "Bursting Out" concert. They blew me away. Became a Tull lover ever since and this has to be one of the best live albums ever.
Love Tull. Saw them on their Thick as a Brick tour with Gentle Giant in 72 in Buffalo. This album is one of my all time favorites live or otherwise. I hope this comes out on vinyl.
No artist does super deluxe editions as good as Jethro Tull does. I have all the other ones released so far and can't wait to get this one too!
I was actually at that Garden performance on Oct 11 1978. I was 18 and a huge fan. Tull used to play NYC quite often back then and this was my 2nd time seeing them at the Garden , the first being on 11/30/77. Great band, great shows. To think Ian is still out there doing it is mind boggling to me. The man was and I guess still is quite a dynamo!

@@FuturePast2019 its so long ago now. Id like to say I remember the shows but its all faded out. Cool that i can see that video now. Im sure i saw them a third time but cant find my stub for that one. Im sure the first lp of theirs i bought new was War Child. I would have been 16. So maybe then but i think it was later. People don’t really remember but they actually played Shea Stadium too.
First concert I ever saw, 4/8/1977, and despite all the concerts I've attended since then, no drummer I've seen has ever topped Barrie Barlow's solo that night.
It was and now is a favorite

Well Live at Leeds holds that distinction 😊
I was a 13 year old at that 78' MSG concert.
The first vinyl album I bought. Brilliant album.
These are great for collectors, publisher's and the uber fateful. Hated by relatives that have to get rid of all the stuff after you kick it.
Oooh this looks lovely. Can't wait for my copy. I do hope they reissue more of these sets, just as they did at end of last year. Currently I am only missing 3 of the earlier sets, 2 of which are among my favourite Tull records. 🤞🤞🤞
This all seems very exciting.
Having the brilliant ‘Bursting Out’ album reviewed by the man with the golden tonsils, fantastic 🙂
Really pleased that this has been released - I think all the Steven Wilson remixes are excellent. (I am sure that I read a few years ago that the master tapes had been lost so a Steven Wilson remix of Bursting Out would not be possible?)

This happened also with Stand Up which actually wasn't originally remixed. Then they found the multi tracks so they could remix it properly in 2017 or something
I'll be placing my order , that's for sure. Cheers Barry. 😍
We loved JT here in the States especially in the 70's. It's a big regret that I missed out on that show at Madison Square Garden. At the time concerts there were extremely expensive and tickets hard to get, I usually had to resort to scalpers. Unfortunately at the time I could not swing it. I'm sure this box set would be wonderful but pricey again. Actual $59 USD is really not bad.
Thanks for the review. I remember the kids at the corner playing this album all summer when I was a kid. I got the remastered version on CD. I have all the Tull box sets. They are the best IMO. Will definitely be ordering this one when it comes out. I’m also getting the Little Feat Feats Don’t Fail Me Now release and the 50th anniversary Robin Trower Bridge of Sighs release too. Ah the 70s are alive and well. Great to have new versions of classic albums on CD.
The announcement of this set was a pleasant surprise to me. I assumed that once the Broadsword set came out these were finished. Would be nice to see a similar treatment for Under Wraps and Crest of a Knave.
I bought the original on day of release, bunked off college and listened to it all day. That was a great time to be a Tull fan. I got the 'Stitch in Time' single on white vinyl just after, if I recall correctly.

I have that white vinyl pressing also. Great song. Need to play it when I get home.
I've really enjoyed the Anniversary Edition sets that have been released, although I have only This Was and Minstrel in the Gallery so far, I am super looking forward to Bursting Out!! One of the best live albums ever made and certainly one of my favorite live albums.
Great live album we had the vinyl as a kid
keeping listening
I'm still patiently awaiting JT " Under Wraps " Deluxe Edition Box Set remix by Steven Wilson. Thanks for posting this video. Cheers from Indiana.
I love what Tull have done to these remixes they all come as a hardback book format full of information and always with a surround mix, I have a few of these and they are always great value for money, the original album was always a great live concert, which caught the band at their very best, this is a must buy for me even if i have to sacrifice a few bingo nights.
Wow, if I wasn't already thinking of purchasing, your amazingly detailed review and unboxing convinced me ! 👍🏽👍🏽
I do wish I had seen Jethro Tull at the time of BURSTING OUT. Very interested in getting this new edition. Thanks for the unboxing!
Thanks for the review. Being a Tull fan for many years, this is definitely a must have. I'll be purchasing asap.
These Jethro Tull boxsets look great and are a great price Maiden need to do the same
Never the biggest Tull fan but I've always been interested in this album because 16 year old me attended this show. Uriah Heep opened and coincidentally I just saw them (well Mick Box at least) for the second time ever just two weeks ago. Interested to hear what Wilson did with this.
"Did you give it a good shake"
Love book style box sets I wish more bands would release them in then in this fashion they would fit on the shelves better.I have mine on preorder.Thank you for the pre-review.
I really enjoy the unboxing and pre-reviews that you do! I will be buying this set. Thanks
I'm looking forward to adding this set to my JT collection of box sets. These sets, along with Dylan's Bootleg Series, are the best of these sort of things. Thanks to Ian Anderson and Steve Wilson.
Thanks for the review. I can't wait to get this one.I really think Tull were at the absolute peak of their powers when they recorded Bursting Out. My only gripe was the version of Songs From The Wood on the original Bursting Out was half the studio length but the expanded version appears to be including the full version so big thumbs up for that. The additional tracks make this boxset an absolute must have.
I saw Tull at MSG in 1978. He had an opening act which was not real unbeknownst to us. His name was Jonathan Livingston Seagull. He came out sang 5 notes. Left the stage. & Ian came out & sang by himself Wondering Allowed. Why r they NOT in the hall of fame. Love Bakers Street Muse off of Minstrel.🎸😎

Got to see Tull in 81, I believe it was. The late 70s and 80s were quite vague. 😏
I'm looking forward to getting this. I wasn't expecting it, since it was skipped chronologically. I hope that they don't wait until the 40th anniversary of the rest, since they were much more spread out. When I get Crest of a Knave, I'll be a happy person, but its 40th isn't until September 2027.
The book alone is a so good.

Cool!
Thank you so much for this review! Gosh- my favorite period of the band . Just magic .nutty and larger than life. I wouldn't have minded if they continued on a varition of "songs from the wood" and "heavy horses " for at least a few more decades. And im also a fan of punk and new wave! I just wish this set added a few more oddities and rarities. For a serious fan like myself ,it seems like i already have most of it. And im so disappointed in the lack of more new visuals. Question: its been covered that some live concert repairs were made in post production ( i dont really care , i adore the original " bursting out" ) .one: as a fan it might be fun the hear the " mistakes" and ,two: can steven wilson hear the repairs when he's remastering? Thanks again!
This a nice surprise! I really hope Ian’s sentiment changes and we get sets for Under Wraps and Crest. UW remixed with updated triggered drums or a human drummer (Doane Perry?) of course.
Fantastic. Why is this never mentioned among the best live rock albums??
These are the best box sets no filler all killer. I don’t care for all the bells and whistles, replica posters and tickets and all that crap. And what a bang for the buck I’m definitely getting this.
BUSTING OUT. I believe first vinyl US press had that title on spine.

To hold the extra data needed for the Surround Sound. A Super CD can hold it as well, but far fewer people have a Super CD player than have a DVD player. The vast majority of home theaters include a DVD player. There are many Audio DVDs and Blue Rays available with Surround versions of classic albums, there are surround version of Beatles, Tull, Yes, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Doors and a wide range of big selling artists. The focus is on well recorded records that are popular enough to sell in a Deluxe format. Prog is particularly well represented among Audio DVDs.

5.1 mixes on DVD...
The hardest working Band in Rock & Roll.
Thank you for this extensive unboxing and review. You mention slight changes to the mix, but what about the mastering? is it more flat/neutral, how are the lows, mids, highs versus previous digital editions like the original fatboy double CD and the later remaster? I'm particularly interested to know if Barrie's drums are any clearer for example?
Well i have most of these sets minus a couple of the super rare ones so it would be rude not to.... Have you watched let it be, by the way, Barry? Watched it last night and couldn't stop smiling.
Am I wrong in thinking this was not going to happen? Could have sworn Ian said tapes were lost. I have the rest of the JT boxes, but a remix of a live album isn’t as exciting. The main reason is the book. Soooo. I’m not sure on this one.
I just wonder if there is a difference between this and the Heavy Horses bonus concert. It's not the same concert, is it?
Love the birdsong, are you close to the edge?
Can you say if the sound quality has been improved on the main album? Bursting Out has always been my favourite Jethro Tull album, but I find the sound quality leaves a bit to be desired.
Interesting it should be called the inflated edition, the Tull box sets used to be a reasonable price, this one is £60+, Tull seem to have gone the way of all flesh.

Always have held it in high regard, not surprising. But I never have seen it included on any best live album lists which is moderately irksome.
It is sound better than the last remaster edition ?
🥱
One thing that has always bugged me about "Bursting Out" is the bass is panned hard-left in the mix. Especially on "Aqualung", my personal favourite Jethro Tull song. I was hoping that the 2004 remaster fixed this, only to find it didn't. One of the worst ideas ever. The bass should be in the middle to ground everything and have some oomph. Probably won't get this box set... "Broadsword And The Beast" was about $300 here in New Zealand.
