Jet Pump Failing Pressure - Check this First!

Water pressure was dropping off to just a trickle and then would return better than ever. Perfect example of a plugged capillary tube. In this video we see just that. Hope you get something useful out of it!

Have you ever done a flint & wallet jet pump w 2 hoses coming out and heading to the well? I have to change the mechanical seal in ours and I’m not sure if I need to know anything special

I actually have water leaking from the pressure switch. Where the heck is that coming from ?

Could be a couple different places. 1. The top of the stainless nipple that goes into the switch. 2. The bottom diaphragm of the switch, I have seen tiny pinholes in them. And I have seen a giant hole. Pressure switch are maybe 25 bucks. Just make sure you get the right one. Most common is M1 style

Jet Pumps are a tricky thing to troubleshoot. Many problems can have very similar symptoms. Impellers however are usually made of brass and I've never seen one go bad. Typically this is the only issue that causes the pump to over pressurize. Usually if its not this its lack of pressure and you start looking towards the well. Single pipe or two Pipe? Foot Valve or Jet assembly? Are you getting air? Possibly a hole in the pipe.

@@GodwinAndSons sorry for delay sir. It's a single pipe w a foot valve. It starting acting up couple weeks ago, loosing pressure, lost prime twice. I've cleaned all ports in the housing, also little line to pressure switch. It'd a 15 ur old pump but use just on weekends, Gould 1.5hp. It starts off good after I prime it but then immediately looses ground, like it can't grab the water. I also have a gate valve at the pump which I have closed. I appreciate your knowledge

O'm gonna right now and re-cbeck all the ports, get me a spray bottle and check for air, I know the hole I use to prime don't seal that good till you really crank it down. Normally when I prime it I wait and make sure it catches before I tighten it down fully, I know it leaks around that one

If it is unable to build pressure past a certain point, I would first isolate the pump from the house, and if possible from the tank(power to pump off otherwise it may short cycle), and then monitor pressure to see if it maintains or drops. If it drops, the house is off and there is no leak right at the pump, then it is either going back down the well (bad foot valve or hole in the drop leg) or it is going underground (hole in the supply pipe). Its also possible that the venturi in the pump housing has gone bad, although this is relatively rare in comparison to the previous two scenarios.

@@GodwinAndSons I think you nailed it. I have a gate valve at the pump so shut it off, tank is not leaking although it only had 20 psi, I bumped that to 35. I'm going back up this weekend w a foot valve and some help to pull that suction pipe out, man thats a dmm job, not looking forward to it. My well guy wants 750 to do it, I'll do it myself before I fork that much out. That foot is prolly 10-15 yrs old

In theory yes, but I wouldn't recommend doing it with an existing jet pump system.
