I love Jesus and I just don't know why this man is making the devil horns curse sign in the picture but I do hope he loves Jesus. I believe that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. I would like to hear every pastor confess these things during their sermons. I think that would be a very beautiful thing. 1 John 4:1-5 King James Version 4 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

I love John Piper. He means well, but this is ignorant and wrong teaching. John didn’t make up the idea of ‘the Word’ as a being. It had already existed in the Old Testament and multiple Jewish writings for hundreds of years. There is a person in the Old Testament called the Word, who keeps appearing throughout the Old Testament. This isn’t a new idea which Christians invented - this comes from Jews BEFORE Jesus was even born. In the inter testimonial period - the 400 years between the old and new testaments, Jews recognised there was a figure (a person) in their Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament) called the Word, and they wrote about him. It’s in the writings of Philo (the Jew) of Alexandria, and in The Wisdom of Solomon, and the Jewish translations of the Old Testament into Aramaic, the Targums. Jews could see in the Old Testament a figure/a person called the Word, who was sent from God, distinct from God, comes from God, who talks on behalf of God, but also claims to be God and is also identified by others as God. This idea is thousands of years old, and Jews recognized this and wrote about it. So the Gospel of John wasn’t introducing a totally new concept here. It was already in the Old Testament. Let me explain, but first: “ALL THINGS were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” ‭‭John‬ ‭1:3‬ “No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.” ‭‭John‬ ‭1:18‬ That says no one has seen God at ANY time. That includes everyone in the Old Testament. That matches many other verses in the Bible which say the same thing: “But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.”” ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭33:20‬ ‭ “who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see,” ‭‭I Timothy‬ ‭6:16‬ “No one has seen God at any time.” ‭‭I John‬ ‭4:12‬ ‭ “Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from God; He has seen the Father.” ‭‭John‬ ‭6:46‬ So, once again, John 1:18 says: “No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.” ‭‭John‬ ‭1:18‬ That says no one has seen God at ANY time. Later in the exact same Gospel, in John chapter 8 is the chapter where Jesus is saying if you believe ME you will be saved. But the Pharisees don’t believe Jesus. “They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus (the Word) said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham. But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this.” ‭‭John‬ ‭8:39-40‬ ‭ What Jesus said at the end. It would maybe sound more natural if Jesus had said “Abraham wouldn’t have done this.” But Jesus didn’t say “Abraham wouldn’t have done this.” Jesus said: “Abraham didn’t do this.” That sounds like he’s NOT talking just generally but actually talking more specifically. About a specific incident. Jesus/the Word is saying I (the Word) told you a truth from God and you didn’t believe me and want to kill me. Jesus said Abraham didn’t do this. This sounds like Jesus is saying Abraham didn’t try to kill the messenger who gave Abraham a message from God. This even sounds like Jesus/the Word is saying that Jesus told Abraham something and that Abraham believed Him and didn’t try to kill Jesus! So - what is Jesus talking about here??? When was Abraham told by Jesus (the Word) a truth from God (maybe something that was hard to believe) and Abraham believed the message and didn’t try to kill Jesus/the Word? If you keep reading in John 8, Jesus/the Word and the Pharisees keep talking and the Pharisees understand Jesus is saying this, because they say: ““You are not yet fifty years old,” they said to him, “and you have seen Abraham!”” ‭‭John‬ ‭8:57‬ ‭ Can you think of a famous part in Genesis where it specifically says Abraham famously believed a message from God? It’s in Genesis 15: “After these things the word ❗️of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.” But Abram said, “Lord God, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” Then Abram said, “Look, You have given me no offspring; indeed one born in my house is my heir!” And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.” Then He brought him outside and said, ❗️(that means they were inside the tent) ❗️“Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” And he believed in the Lord,❗️and He accounted it to him for righteousness. Then He said to him, “I am the Lord❗️, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it.”” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭15:1-7‬ Now - remember - no one has ever seen God at ANY time - so this CAN’T be God the Father. We already established that with multiple verses. The Bible is clear about that. If they say Abraham just heard but didn’t see anything - show them in verse 1 that it says this was a “vision”. So, whoever this was, he appeared visibly AND He also took Abraham outside the tent, which implies that this person was visible inside the tent, and then this person took Abraham outside the tent. By believing in this person Abraham was declared righteous. Abraham believed in the Word/Jesus/Jehovah and he was credited with righteousness.‼️‼️‼️ This is exactly what Jesus had been telling the Pharisees about in John 8 - believe in ME and you will be saved. “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am, you will die in your sins.”” ‭‭John‬ ‭8:24‬ ‭ ““Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.” ‭‭John‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭ That’s one example of the person of the Word. Another example: “Then the word ❗️of the Lord came to me, saying: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” Then said I: “Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.” But the Lord ❗️said to me: “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ For you shall go to all to whom I send you, And whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord. Then the Lord put forth His hand ❗️and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me: “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.” ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭1:4-9‬ ‭ The Word says he formed Jeremiah. This matches John 1:3 - the Word created ALL THINGS. What form does this Word appear in? Notice that He has a hand. This implies He’s appearing in the form of a human man. It can’t be Jehovah because no one has ever seen Jehovah and no one can. This person is the Word. But Jeremiah calls this person/the Word Jehovah. And the Bible calls Him Jehovah too. - And another example: “Moreover the word ❗️of the Lord came to me, saying: “The hands of Zerubbabel Have laid the foundation of this temple; His hands shall also finish it. Then you will know That the Lord of hosts has sent *ME* to you.” ‭‭Zechariah‬ ‭4:8-9‬ ‭ This “ME” is a person. And is distinct from Jehovah. ----- Zechariah chapter 1 - in verse 7 the word of Jehovah comes to Zechariah and starts a conversation in verse 9, in the very same conversation, mid-conversation, it says "the angel who was speaking with me" Verse 11 calls the angel "the Angel of Jehovah" Once again, this is another confirmation that the angel of Jehovah and the word of Jehovah are the same person. The angel is described visually as standing still among the myrtle tress in verse 10, and as standing among trees again in verse 11 - so this is a visual appearance. ----- 1 Samuel 3:21 "And Jehovah continued to APPEAR in Shiloh, for Jehovah revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of Jehovah." The Hebrew word for "by" can also be translated as "as" verse 10 says Jehovah "stood there" verse 15 says its a vision ----- This person of 'the Word of Jehovah' is well known in Jewish culture. Do you know what the Targums are? They are Jewish paraphrases of the Hebrew Scriptures from Hebrew into Aramaic. They existed before Jesus was born. If you check the Targums you can see the Jewish people understood the Word of Jehovah to be a walking and talking person who appeared in the scriptures, and they clearly thought it was Jehovah: The Targum translates Genesis 3:8 as: "And they heard the voice of the Word of the LORD as he was walking in the garden" “Jacob also made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will keep me on this journey that I take, and give me food to eat and garments to wear, and I return to my father’s house in safety, then the Lord will be my God.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭28:20-21‬ ‭ ⬇ The Targum translates that as: “If the Word of the LORD will be with me… then the Word of the LORD will be my God” This is what John the apostle was talking about in John 1:1

This has been known of for thousands of years and it’s known by scholars, and I just have no idea why all Christians don’t know this. This should be common knowledge. I’m an idiot but I know about this - so it’s just a sad state of affairs that John Piper doesn’t know this. I collected this information from 3 people: CIRA INTERNATIONAL KZread channel has a playlist of videos all about: The Trinity in the Old Testament. They have 2 series in that playlist: One by Anthony Rogers And One by Sam Shamoun Michael Heiser (he has a ‘Two Powers in Heaven’ lecture, or a series of talks on The Jewish Trinity. His is the least good. I strongly recommend the first two. May God bless you abundantly!

@@timothyflaherty5150 Hello Timothy, May God bless you abundantly. To answer your question: Absolutely not. I whole heartedly believe in the Trinity. That there is one God who eternally exists as 3 persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Now that I’ve answered your question, I have to confess I was taken aback and surprised/baffled by your question: What did I write which could have possibly made you think I have a problem with the Trinity? John Piper’s sermon is focused on the second person of the Trinity. Simply because he spent time focusing on the second person of the trinity, would you ask John Piper if he had problems with the trinity? My comments are in response to John Piper’s sermon, so they also necessarily naturally focus on just the second person of the trinity. My main 2 points were: 1 John Piper’s assertion that John the apostle was the first to realise/write that the Word of God was a person of the Godhead is totally false. It just reveals John Piper’s ignorance. The Word of God as a humanoid, walking, talking person who appeared visually and claimed to be God (throughout the Old Testament) had been recognised and written about by multiple people for hundreds if not over a thousand years before John the apostle was born. 2 I just find it tragic that most Christians have not been taught this and are completely unaware of it. And I find it utterly tragic that esteemed Church leaders, such as John Piper, are also ignorant of such things, and thus give sermons like this which spread false information. If they don’t know such things, what hope do the congregations have of being taught properly? ---- The only thing I can think of which might somehow have made you think I had a problem with the trinity is the title of Michael Heiser’s lecture: Two Powers in Heaven. Please don’t take this harshly, but if that is the reason, I would be disappointed. For someone to construe something into those four words and not to actually pay attention/read what I actually wrote in my comment would be disappointing. For the record, Michael Heiser believes in the Trinity and doesn’t have a problem with it. His lecture is about how: hundreds of years before the time of Jesus, religious Jews saw and recognised that in their scriptures (the Old Testament) that there was a humanoid, walking, talking person who claimed to be God, and that this person is sometimes called the Angel of the Lord, and sometimes called The Word of God, and sometimes called Yahweh. These same religious Jews (hundreds of years before the apostle John) saw that in the Old Testament there are passages (like in Daniel 9 and Genesis 19) where it talks about or depicts two Yahwehs in the same passage or even in the same sentence, or two rulers in Heaven. Christians know these two persons as the Father and the Son). For a full explanation you need to watch the full lecture. That is why Michael Heiser calls his lecture ‘Two powers in heaven’ - not because he has a problem with the trinity, but because that’s what Jews saw/recognised in the Old Testament and they wrote about it hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus. ​ 2 Cor 4:4 " The God ( Theos) of this world has blinded peoples minds". here Paul uses exactly the SAME greek word John used at John 1:1! Phil 3:19 "Making their appitite their god ( theos) same word again. John 10:34 "are not your leaders gods ( theos)". The word simply means "A powerful godlike one. It can apply to the Creator, the Son, and to men! In fact John did NOT use the DEFINITE ARTICLE to describe the 'Word' as 'God' where as the "God the Word was with" DID have the definite article! So some translators render the greek more accurately by saying "The Word was DIVINE" ( See Moffatt's respected bible). Yes God's son is of 'divine nature' ( Theoites) as the "Image" of his Father who is ALMIGHTY God, The Son is a God! But he told Mary before his ascension and AFTER his resurrection "I am ascending to MY GOD AND YOUR GOD". Nothing could be clearer, the Word in John 1:1 is God's 'Only begotten' SON. John concluded his gospel with this emphasis! " These things have been written that you may believe that JESUS CHRIST IS THE SON OF GOD" ( John 20:31)

Respectfully friend, please consider this... In the Greek NT, we read: In (the) beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and God was the Word... It is not "a word" or "a god", there are no indefinite articles present or the sense implied, just "the Word" and "God" followed by "and God was the Word". There is no need to say "the" God, because only one is in view. Similarly it does not say "a" Word, as there is only one "Word" in view. So, you are quite mistaken. In addition, the next statement is: This "One was in the beginning with God". Here, "the beginning" being spoken of means 'before anything else', which is important because only God precedes anything else. One more important point friend, while some may try to poke and prod these verses to say something they certainly don't, they are thankfully not the only verses in the NT referring to Jesus as almighty God, not by a very, very long shot. So Jesus in the beginning was with God, and Jesus in the beginning is God. Like it or not, that is what Scripture says!

@@timothyflaherty5150 Thanks, but I have heard these arguements for years my friend! I dint quibble about the greek! However due to the syntex here not all translators ( especially 'trinity' advocates!) render "The word ws God" but "The word was divine" or "What God was the word was". To me its not the main thrust as to who the Word is! To start with, how can one being be 'with' another' and yet be that other being'? That doesnt make sense. two, you claim that because the word was there in the beginning is explained by Paul in Col 1. Paul states that "There is One God the Father, OUT OF whom all things are...and one Lord Jesus Christ THROUGH whom all things are" 1 Cor 8:6. So The 'Word was there before the 'beginning' of all his Father's creative works! agreed!!! Since the Son is 'begotten' it means what it says, unless you 'twsit' the simple meaning! 'Homousious' 'of the same substance'. Thus before anything was created, the Son was produced ( we dont know how, as Athanasious admitted!) directly from the Father. Then "all other things" were Created by the Father THROUGH theSon. Thusonly yhe Son was DIRECTLY from the Father with no agency. All other things came through the Son. To me its quite straightforward!. Also The rest of chapter 1 is clear to me that John wanted us to believe that the 'Word' was NOT God himself but as he said "We had a view of his glory, that of AN ONLY BEGOTTEN SON FROM THE FATHER" and he adds this caviat "No one has SEEN GOD AT ANY TIME". ( John 1:14,18). A stand by my faith in the Father and his beloved 'onlybegotten Son' Please finally 'my friend' read Johns REASON for writing his gospel, and that should settle this! John 20:31.

​​​​@@kiwihans100I'll bet you have heard that stuff before, I hope you bear with my efforts. When you say "How can one being be 'with' another and yet be that other being? That doesn't make sense", you're actually saying, "because I don't understand it, it can't be true." But this kind of thinking can lead to a lot of impediments in life. That God is one (being) and yet three distinct persons is perhaps necessarily incomprehensible to us. He said "I am God and there is none like Me." He is transcendently unique. We should be more alarmed if we did understand Him better! The finite cannot be expected to grasp the Infinite, and it is no deficit that it can't. Jesus said "If you've seen me, you've seen the Father." "The Father and I are One." "Blessed are those who haven't seen me and yet believe." Jesus is God Almighty, the only Son of the Father, true God of true God. The Ancient of Days. The unchanging One. The same yesterday, and forever. The Alpha and Omega. Amen.

@@timothyflaherty5150 Thanks for your helpful reply Timothy!. I noticed the semil creed 'true God of true God' which if I am right means you belong to, either by birth or choice to a church. I on the other hand am complelely 'organized religion' free! So can you clarify; One God but three persons, Father, Son & HS, right? So are the three still as 'persons' distinct beings?

​@@kiwihans100As to how, Hebrews 1:3 says "...He is the radiance of God's glory, and the exact imprint of His nature." We might say "God's Godness is no less God than God is."

Christ was anointed to be the mouth (word) of His father. The messenger... What's wrong with you people ?
