"Jesus Teaches Us How to See" + 3rd Sunday in Lent (Fr. Mike's Homily)

Ойын-сауық

Jesus taught the world how to see the person.
We are constantly facing the temptation to define people by their group or by their shame. Jesus reveals that, while He knows the group and knows the shame, He sees the person...the individual...and calls them by their name.

    I know all things are possible through Jesus.I believe and follow Christ! I know that’s why Im being spiritually attack by the devil. I’m a single mother with two autistic children. My husband died years ago. I feel so alone. I have no family nor friends to lean on. I’m so overwhelmed since covid I can’t seem to get back on my feet. I lost my job at Forsyth hospital for declining the vaccine. I only declined due to my health conditions. I suffer from lupus, and heart disease. I’m now waitressing and so thankful but I’m not making nearly enough to get by. I started homeschooling my children because they were having so many issues in school including bullying. Now especially that I’m homeschooling my hours to work are limited. God hear my prayers. Every month is a struggle to not end up on the streets with my boys. I feel like a failure. I’m so ashamed of not being able to provide for my children. It’s so discouraging. But I keep faith. I know God willl provide in Jesus name. Thank you Jesus.

    DO NOT FEEL ASHAMED. You have nothing to be ashamed about. We all go through hardships, and you sound like a great Mom and a good person. I'm sorry to hear about your struggles and the loss of your husband. I love you, and if you ever need someone to reach out to to just talk I am here. I will keep you and your children in my prayers. God Bless

    Jesus sees us as a human individual. Our so called "group or class" does not define who we truly are (fallacy of sweeping generalizations). Truth is, we tend to be critical of others who do not share our own beliefs and idealism.

    Our culture needs this message now more than ever. We divide ourselves into groups and refuse to empathize with our human traits. Rather, we focus on the worst qualities of the "group", and it is destroying the fabric of our society.

    Needed to hear that point on seeing people for who they are & not other things like their shame, group, etc. I thought also about seeing them not for what they've suffered like in the case of abuse/rape/etc. I think that also rings true to the gospel message. Especially since the woman knew what's up, she knew the separation in the state of affairs of the time & her own life too, yet she acknowledged Jesus as a prophet & further hearkened to his words to the point of even bringing others too. That encounter with Jesus & his disciples among sinners is powerful! I hope we can also be counted among them, sharing in the grace of that encounter with God!

    Please understand my comment is not a challenge but an enlightenment for all western fathers of the Catholic Church in hope to not lose faith due to heavy migrations (refugees for example, investors, tourist other examples) of eastern people & culture to west. Like Johnny Depp has said in an interview years ago (the Americas is like a puppy to the East -- the big dogs!). Peace be with our spirit.

    I pit a notification for Mass at 7 AM today and it showed on the time the word UPCOMING . There was one person waiting and then 3. But I noticed it also showed two different times one that said stars in 2 hours and ano6her that said it starts at 11:05am. I NEVER if ever put a notification for Mass but since this was confusing a bit, I did. I know it usually begins at 9 am and so it was odd. I Was busy so I relied on the notification and the fact that it said at 11:05..I never put a notification for the Homily but foe the Mass. And I just got the notification for the Homily for which I never set one and it was like half way through anyway. I don't know if at 9:00 am is in real time or not so I was hoping I'd hear Mass at least at the time set. I missed it once again I'll hear it at whatever time like I most Sundays nowadays.

    We as reverts to the church were strongly rebuked for excepting a invitation for dinner from a gay couple. Who identified as Cathloic. We didn't know this till they prayed over their food. So we're we wrong or we're we showing what Jesus did many times and also rebuked. By the Religious. ? Mind in one year not one church attendee ever welcomed us my husband and I into any fellowship. The priest of this perish does not like questions addressed to him he refers them to the secretary . So who can we ask?

  • @rhwinner

    @rhwinner

    First note: that is some priest. Find another one. Second, there are no hard and fast rules about this. If you were not offended, then I see no issue with eating with a gay couple who claim to be 'Catholic.' As long as you defend the moral teaching of the Church if you are asked your opinion. In fact you may be a silent witness to your faith that may not bear fruit until many years have passed. Many people don't fully repent until they are on their death beds, and who knows what memories may come at that time....

    As long as you are clear on where you stand (when it comes up in discussion)which is the teaching of the church and you do so respectfully and in love, there’s no reason to not dine with them. And it may not come up explicitly in conversations, this is where your life in general becomes a good witness of the faith. And honestly, just pray the Holy Spirit guides your words whenever you are around them...

    @@cornelisverhoek400 You're welcome. I may just add, if you want to, you can ask to volunteer at your parish. That is the best way to fellowship, I find.
