Fun Fact: In Chile (my country), the public service broadcasting channel named "TVN", shows this movie every year on Holy Friday with an uninterrumpted broadcasting of 43 years, (including 2024), this is considered a national record. ✝

Yo la vi primeramente en VHS, mucho despues de que se estrenara en los 70's. Aunque hace tiempo deje de mirar television (lo hago ocasionalmente), si mal no rememoro, se emitia en algun que otro canal hara como unos 10 años. No recuerdo que en los ultimos tiempos la pasaran por la Tv Publica (que es del estado), quiza si en las decadas del 90 o 2000. Bendiciones para vos y tu familia tambien, un cordial saludo

I absolutely adore this film. I watch it twice a year and it always gives me such a great spiritual uplift. Robert Powell in my opinion, is the best Jesus ever on film. Olivia Hussey is the most gorgeous Mary. Every single role was so well cast.

Olivia Hussey also played Juliet. Very beautiful.

This show was so well cast..everyone was exactly right for their role and played it so well. Robert Powell of course was the standout..the best Jesus ever and I still think he s gorgeous!!!

@@rolandoraganit I have mixed feeling about it bro. Race is a social construct that does not really exist. There is only one human race with different ethnicities. I kind of feel that Jesus belongs to all of us not just one ethnic group. Therefore, it is acceptable for any human male to play Jesus in my book. With that being said it is kind of lame that Hollywood has a history of taking other groups of human beings and portraying them as a specific part of humanity. I am glad the Chosen has actors of middle eastern and Jewish descent. Jesus is not black man nor a white man. He is the right man.

A masterpiece of a movie.

This movie never gets old watching. Matter of fact I'm getting ready to watch it now.

I have loved this movie ever since I was a child!!

The quintessential movie of the life of Jesus. Robert Powell is the best actor ever to play Him. It changed my life.

This is still the greatest film about Christ. I really value it. Everything is a work of art in it. The attitudes, the emotions, everyone does everything beautifully and well, whatever the assignment or role. The costumes and sets are astonishing to me, with Herod Antipas scenes. I always wonder at the skill of those whose faces and names will likely remain unfamiliar, yet they contribute so much to a great film

I absolutely adore this film. I remember when it was released in 1977. The cast was the best cast assembled. Olivia Hussey is just as beautiful now as she was when she portrayed Mary the mother of Jesus. Outside "King of Kings" and "The Greatest Story Ever Told", "Jesus of Nazareth" is the best of all three of them. Robert Powell portrays Jesus so well; far better than any other person I have seen in other films. Every role was so well cast. Anthony Quinn and James Mason were great in their roles of Caiaphas the High Priest and Joseph of Arimathea. My thanks to Franco Zeffirelli for making this masterpiece.

If you can remember it was a 12 hour miniseries. Absolutely life changing production, but when it was released on DVD many beautiful scenes were eliminated: Jesus' encounter with Satan in the desert, Jesus walking on water and calming the sea, The complete scene where he appears to the Apostles after is resurrection. Those were very powerful scenes and added to the strength of the movie. I would like to see a complete restoration of this wonderful, moving movie.

Thanks for sharing, out of all the "Jesus" films this was the best. All actors in this version was relatable.

The video messed up badly @2:19, this pic on the left is not James Mason playing Joseph of Arimathea(although James Mason did in fact play Joseph of Arimathea in the miniseries), it is Anthony Quinn playing Caiaphas. Btw, Anthony Quinn died on 06/03/2001 at age 86.

I do not like that you show those pictures of ‘recommended videos’ blocking the view. Can you not show them afterwards, when the reel of actors has ended? I see this practiced really often in youtube videos and it annoys me.

what a wonderful movie...as a physician and older..... women from that generation were the last of the elegant ladies...I see them and at their end times and talk to many of them...then they show me pictures of them in their youth...what gorgeous and classy ladies they were.

We grow old and gradually fade away, like a greece paint mask - disappearing from the world we in part founded. And then on a sudden we are altogether gone. But there is a being that will never grow old and will never be gone, and will never change.The Rock of Ages - who shall not forget any one of us. There`s your name, carved into the palm of His hand.

What I regret, with these actors and with many others, not being able to tell or write to them, how much I admire them for that or other films. I'm sorry that they never read my words of admiration, I only ask that one of them read me and answer me really and exclusively, but this will not stop admiring them.

Olivia Hussey still has that Mother Mary look. And John Duttine, John the evangelist still fishing.

Olivia Hussey in the film has to be one the the most beautiful women I've ever seen.

I love that Robert Powell's voice didn't change after all these years and he still sounds like Jesus 😊
