Jessica Disapproves Mike's Behaviour with Rachel | Suits
Ойын-сауық
Mike is forced to interrogate Rachel, who is playing Kyle's client: a character who is unable to reach her desired promotion and is stuck in the same job for five years. Rachel becomes emotionally involved and Mike backs down from the case.
It's then that Jessica tells him that he has been naive and soft , two "qualities" that are not desirable at Pearson Hardman.

Same for Jessica, she might have to keep up the appearance of being cold and ruthless to make sure her subordinates stay in line, however she was still impressed by his ability to recover and that he can choose empathy/sympathy over Winning which is something she hates about herself and the way she turned out. Everyone seems to ignore a couple of things. Louis is intrigued by Mikes response, and shows it openly. Harvey's doesn't look at Mike with disdain first, but as an after thought. Donna openly shows she is impressed because Mike had Rachel where he wanted her for the act. The only one who made a major mistake was Jessica dropping the foreshadow statement of "not what we are looking here at Pearson Hardman." This show was filled with foreshadowing and double talk.

This scene would have been perfect if the person Mike was being soft on was an outsider, that way it would have highlighted to us more clearly the type of lawyer he really wanted to be; Someone who prefers fighting for the people not for the corporations. But the fact that it was Rachel, someone he had romantic feelings for makes us wonder whether it's just cause he knew and liked her. Still, the backstory of Rachel struggling to get into law school played a powerful role.

My FAVOURITE episode in the series, sums everything that season 1 managed to do so well that the later seasons struggled to do. Although I’m not quite sure how realistic the mock trial was (can anyone confirm if ANY law firms do this? As in with the associates etc) the reception Mike got when he backed down right when it was his to bring home(even though it was obvious why) was VERY realistic. Season 1 showed that even though Mike was cunning, quick on his feet and having a super brain, the demands of working for a firm like Pearson Hardman and what it to took to be on top takes a lot more than being the smartest guy in the room. The constant conflict of the type of lawyer Mike tries to be VS the person he wants to be is something season 1 and this episode did a brilliant job of showing.

I can't personally confirm first hand that law schools and law firms do mock trials, but from all the reading I've done about pursuing a degree in law (JAG and this show really made me want to become a lawyer at one point lol), I have read that many places do indeed conduct mock trials. Sometimes, depending on the law firm and the case they're representing, some firms may even do mock trials on actual cases they're representing, just as a way to prep the legal team and their witness(s) base before the real thing. But again, that's just stuff that I read about few years back.

I disagree, if I was in Mike's shoes I'd ask more questions to get to the root of the problem now that the mock trial is over. Rachel's anger, while unjustified, wasn't dissected by a calmer third party to get to the real reason. Sometimes it's better to be the voice of reason in an argument, rather than play the loudest voice in the room, to get to the reason of the anger.

It was prudent. All the bosses are watching to see if someday Mike will break them all the same for a win. This was a wise move.
[Mike to Harvey at Mike's interview]: *"If you give me this (referring to the job), I will work as hard as it takes to school those Harvard douches and become the best lawyer you have ever seen"* I guess Harvey wanted to see Mike live up to his words, and was greatly disappointed that he didn't at this point in time. Fortunately it paid off for Mike, because this is a pivotal moment in the creating of Rachel-Mike's relationship.
7 years later how the turns have tabled
Fun fact: in 2011 the top most viewed shows were 1. Game of Thrones 2. Shameless 3. Suits Netflix was still renting Discs… so you just had to be there to watch these shows for the first time and ironically all these shows flopped towards the end. GoT flopped s8, Fiona(Emmy Rossum) left end of s9 and Mike and Rachel left at the end of s7… what could have been tbh But still Suits should have been at least 2nd place

Now that's where Mike and Harvey are different. Harvey would have ripped off her infront of Judge , not letting his personal feelings cost him the case. Through the second half of series seasons, Mike had adapted the Badass attitude of Harvey and Harvey somehow adapted the soft spot behaviour of Mike Ross.

1:45 broke Mike smh 😂
That other associate would not have won if there was no personal relation between Mike and Rachel, which of course for a real trial it's highly unlikely that the prosecuting attorney will have feelings for the defendant. I don't see why Jessica does not see this as a red flag for the other associate that he only won by luck and showing no regard for his coworker and how this would affect future office dynamics.
Best suits season 💕
