I wish they had discussed being period poor along with this. Feminine hygiene products are outrageously expensive these days. I volunteer in a food/personal item bank and this is the number 1 requested item. So the shame is also in not having the items and having to wear pads and tampons longer than needed. Or these girls/women use other items such as socks, TP, paper towels, towels, and so on. Hopefully some proceeds of her book can help these girls out.

Yes, you pay more for it butttt do you have period underwear in The U.S? Period underwear have a absorbant pad sewed into the underwear so you need to soak it and wash it straight after use but it lasts a long time........Reusable......In Africa many charities are sewing pads that you clip on to the underwear.......again......resuble and you can see how to make them on the internet........In homeless shelters where they have washing machines they might need to look at female only laundry wear women can wash these clothes with out men coming in constantly.

@@karenmbbaxter We do have period panties and diva cups in America. You must realize that not all girls have the same flow, access to washing machines, uncomfortable with the idea. It’s a wonderful idea and it’s better for the environment and more cost effective. Yet, we still have women who prefer pads and tampons.

I agree about guys learning about women's changes. I saw a video about premnopause and how it can start in the 30s. I and men should know this. And after menopause you will get your wife back, so don't give up and make a stupid decision. So we men need to be more aware and sensitive to this. I didn't know this and I prided myself about knowing alot about women. Great topic.

Having not read the book yet but I hope she deals with all sorts of periods! As a multi generational menstrual haemorrhaging sufferer (daughter too 😢) really bad periods seem to be more and more common these day's!! 😢 I educated my daughter when she was 9. She saw what I went thru and now she has the same but at least she was more prepared! Also tried to teach her not to be embarrassed or made to feel ashamed (but it can still be embarrassing!) Strongly agree boy's need to be taught about them too! Might seem gross to them but hopefully will make them more understanding later in life! Especially men with daughter's, single father's desperately need this info with the absence of a female in their lives otherwise it's like the blind leading the blind!!! 😢

I feel like maybe schools need to have more resources for girls for sure. For some in the comments you have to understand, there are girls starting their menstrual early at age 9. They definitely need educating, but it should really be the mom/grandmother/aunt educating young girls.

That was my initial thought as well, but then she mentioned how young girls will hide their pad or tampon in their hand and run to the bathroom as if they're trying to keep something a secret. Yeah I totally get wanting to change that whole mindset. I'm on board with that. Stop hiding your tampons in your pocket or your hand. Just get your tampon and go who cares? It is what it is. kids stop teasing when they see it's not effective.

Okay but that’s ridiculous. I’m not saying pre-teen kids shouldn’t be educated. But for kiddies? No. They don’t need to know about this. I’m British and we were educated very well in a safe, mixed group of 10/11 year olds. You don’t need to be younger than that.

They’re in their 40s now. People change a lot in 24+ years. 4) you’ve heard ONE side of that story and have no idea how much of it is actually true. I’m not necessarily saying it isn’t, I’m just saying we’re not working with all the information here, if it’s true that was his secret too, and he honestly doesn’t owe any of us talking about it. Only if he ever decides he wants to talk about.
