Those Southern boys had more charm than ANY other bunch of guys...Jerry Reed and Jerry Clower were two of the funniest, cleanest comedians ever and their humor is missed beyond words. R.I.P fellas...heaven has to be constantly laughing

I love about 30 minutes from where Jerry Clower lived. I went to SMCC with his grandson. I had the privilege of being told the Coon Huntin' Story, and Marcel's Talking Chainsaw at his kitchen table. That was 24 years ago, and something I'll never forget.

Just now stumbled across this for the first time ever and almost became dehydrated from laughing so hard. Yessiree, nothing like good, clean, Southern comedy -- Reed, Clowers, Stevens, Grizzard, and a host of others. First time I ever went up in an airplane my cousin took me and my 3 siblings for a ride in a little Cessna. I was in elementary school at the time. He was working on getting his commercial license so flew as often as he could. He took us to New Orleans and back and in route, just like Bubba & Jerry, he did all the tricks he had learned. I thought it was magical, like being on one of those amusement park rides we flew over along the lake in New Orleans that night. We did barrel rolls, straight up, straight down, every which a way but loose. I LOVED it. One of my brothers got down and kissed the runway when we got off the plane and said he'd never fly again as long as he lived. This is the kid who used to run the ditches barefoot looking for water mocassins and later became a tree surgeon, climbing big old tall trees with a chainsaw . He almost kept his vow. The Navy made him fly one time from one station to another once, maybe twice, but other than that he never got on another plane. I, on the other hand, have been on quite a few planes, civilian as well as military. Got to ride up on the flight deck of a couple of C130s over the Alps, and have been on a few other larger cargo planes but never got to fly in a fighter jet. I may be kidding myself but I think I would have loved it. One of the last items on my bucket list is to go up in a glider. Tame stuff compared to an F16. LOL

Jerry was playing for journalists attending Disneyworld’s 15th anniversary when a pilot in a biplane started doing aerobatics above the covered stage. Jerry sees his audience looking up so he sidles up to the front of the stage so he can see, too. Got a big laugh.

My dad, "Bubba", also got on stage and played the spoons while Jerry Reed was performing his concert that night. Jerry thought everyone was cheering extra hard for him at first, and then he turned around and saw dad going to town with two spoons. One of the best USO concerts I've had the privilege of seeing. Mr. Reed was such a gentleman, and by far, one of the funniest men I've ever seen.

Jerry was a True Professional and there is no way he would have disappointed fans. One of my friends was Dottie West's Drummer, and he had me back-stage at a concert where, as soon as the concert was over, she had to be taken to the hospital for fluids and was in the hospital for days, "Because" she did not want to let her fans down. I know there are those that will not get why I said this. But I think you will. They appreciated their fans and would never let them down. Thank you Glenda...And...Jerry??? I did a hitch on an F16 base... The maneuver he described on taking off is called a "seven G max climb" and it takes you from 0 ft to 15k ft in about 11 seconds. I got to ride in the F16B, the "B" model is also known as the "family" model. He's right, the craft is nothing more than a giant rocket 20th a seat strapped to it. :) And, in the grand scheme of things, the F16 is actually pretty small, the F4 is huge, comparatively. Lol. They are like a bumble bee and, like it, isn't supposed to fly. They just give it so much boost it scare it into the air, it's also called the flying brick. :) But, the FUN plane, is the A10 "Warthog." Yaaaa buddy. The flying bathtub. It's low and slow and will turn right out from under you. You sit in an armored tub in the plane... So you don't get your nuts shot off! (Ann other stuff, too). Truth.

Air Force version of : " Well, if I can keep it on the ground When I put that hammer down Then I'll be Texas bound and flyin' I've got my 10 in the wind Let it all hang out again 'Cause how're you gonna win If you ain't trying Well, now we're all back together And we're burnin' up the road And that old Sheriff's doggin' us today He thinks he's really got it cookin' Plans to do a lot of bookin' Only trouble he keeps lookin' Where we've already been So, if I can keep it on the ground When I put that hammer down Then I'll be Texas bound and flyin' Well, if I can keep it on the ground When I put that hammer down Then I'll be Texas bound and flyin' I've got my 10 in the wind Let it all hang out again 'Cause how're you gonna win If you ain't trying Now 'Smokey and the Bandit' Is a tale you don't forget Every time you time your hear An engine scream and whine Well, you have to think about Ol' Bandit Ol' Buford, Frog and Fred and Snowman Their story is a legend that will live on in time So, if I can keep it on the ground When I put that hammer down Then I'll be Texas bound and flyin'"

I'll never forget the acceleration of the plane we took off in in vietnam. A jet assisted takeoff from a dirt road. 180MPH in about a quarter mile. I'd love to feel a catapult shot.
