From the movie Smokey and the bandit, Smokey is a nickname for Police, and Burt Reynolds was my idol when growing up, he just went his own way being a rebel, he drove a black Trans Am which kinda became a cult object afterwards.

The Director of Smokey and the Bandit asked Jerry Reed (who was an actor in the movie) to write a theme song for the film, and when Jerry played this for him, he told him to stop part way through. Jerry assumed he didn't like it and offered to re-write it, but the director said "Change one bit and you're fired." The song basically describes the plot of the movie. These two rich men make a bet with Burt Reynolds' character, Bandit, to deliver a truck load of beer from Texas to Georgia, which was illegal at that time, in only a day. The whole time he is being chased by police, aka smokies. It remains one of my favorite movies to this day. If you ever have the opportunity to watch it definitely give it a chance. I would also recommend listening to the other huge trucker song of the time, Convoy by CW McCall. It was also used in a movie, however the movie version has different lyrics than the original. Both versions are equally good in my opinion.

The beer they were smuggling was Coors Original (Banquet) because it was not sold east of Texas til like 1986. Multiple US Presidents brought it on board Air Force One before they could get it in DC.
Jerry Reed and Burt Reynolds had great chemistry! Jerry was such a fun, versatile entertainer.
Jerry Reed was also in the movie playing the truck driver, the Snowman. The whole song is filled with trucker lingo that was used on the CB`s that the truckers use to communicate with each other
you guys have to watch the movie!!!
This is a one of many examples of why your channel is so good. Aside from the sharp interpretation of the song, you weave in a kind of "free association" that connects the song being reviewed to elements and memories from your lives, from green tea during a monsoon, reminisces of Seinfeld and other related information. This is what makes your channel special.
What a lot of fans aren't mentioning is Jackie Gleason's performance of one Sheriff Buford T Justin.. of TEXAS! He damn near stole the movie!
This song is most pleasing to the ears....very upbeat and happy melody
It's a fun song on it's own, but you will enjoy it even more if you see the movie. Love your channel.
One of my favorite movies and I love this song! It makes a constant appearance on my playlists. Just a downright fun song. It appears often in the movie as for much of the film, they're going from Texarkana to Atlanta (eastbound). But in the beginning they're going to pick up the beer, they're westbound and the song is actually changed in that part to "Westbound & Down, 18 wheels a-rolling" instead of "loaded up and trucking" because they hadn't loaded up yet. They were going west to load up. Just a fun little subtle change that adds a lot.
A fun song from a fun movie. The whole film is basically one large car chase, and this song really captures that mood very well.
Jerry was a great man, crazy talented guitarist.
My favorite artist! Pls react to more of his music!! He is one of the greatest fingerstyle guitarists ever! I suggest watching him perform live with chet atkins

E J Chet is definitely one of the best fingerstyle players of all time. My favorite fingerstyle guitarists are Chet, Jerry, Lenny Breau, Tommy Emmanuel, Richard Smith, Doyle Dykes, Steve Wariner, Paul Yandell, John Knowles. Just to name a few. I think chet said Lenny was the best ever
Love watchin you reactions. Thank you.
One of the best guitar players ever, also a lot of comedy in his music, listen to She got the Goldmine I got the Shaft, or The Bird
Haha! Love it ☺️ A really fun song from an equally fun movie. Both are in my favourites. You’d enjoy the movie - one of those you don’t need to use your brain to watch...it’s just good fun ☺️
At the time this movie came out Coors Beer was illegal east of Texas and anyone caught hauling it east was arrested and charged with Bootlegging(Hauling un-taxed beer). The plot of the movie was that a rich man in Atlanta hired Burt Reynolds and Jerry Reed to go to Texarkana and bring him a Truck load of Coors to Atlanta in like 30 hrs which is about a 1500 miles roundtrip. Now Bears(Police) are chasing them all the way and they have ther Texarkana Sheriff after them because Burt Reynolds picked up the Sheriffs son's fiancé (Sally Field) and he want's her back.
this song reminds me of my childhood. Ahh... good times. I ended up driving a 1981 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am for awhile in the 90s. It was still a head turner and the chics loved it lol! It was a gas hog tho, When you filled up gas, the gauge would show as full for a looooong. Then, while you were no where near a gas station, the needle would drop. And now you have 10 miles to emply. Yikes!
Jerry Reed was a world class guitar player and singer/song writer. He was self taught and when he showed up in Nashville he really scared the studio musicans because he was better than most of them but couldn't read music. Great reaction! You nailed it about the song fitting the movie perfectly. Jerry even played the role of the truck driver in the movie
Great reaction! This is old country/bluegrass from Jerry made popular by Smokey and the Bandit.
I was a kid when the movie came out. Everyone had CB radios in their cars and homes.
Thank you for listening to this. Jerry Reed sings, and also plays the guitar and banjo if I remember correctly. Jerry Reed was also in the movie with Burt Reynolds. Smokey and the Bandit was is one of my favorite movies and songs. It brings me back to my pre-teen years, though the movie is not kid friendly. I remember hearing the song on the radio before ever seeing the movie. The lyrics are heavily derived from semi-truck driving jargon from the 1970s in America. The reference to beer in Texarkana is the main plot in the movie. In the movie there is a bet for $80,000 that they can drive to Texarkana, Texas pick up 400 cases of Coors beer and haul it back to Atlanta, Georgia in 28 hours. At that time, transporting Coors beer across the Mississippi River was illegal, and called "bootlegging". That is why there was a high bet on bringing it back to Atlanta. The whole time they are being chased by a relentless Sheriff who is determined to bring them to justice.
Smokey is trucker slang for police (State Troopers). The reference is to Smokey the Bear, a cartoon character in Public Service Announcements about preventing forest fires. Smokey wore a park ranger hat which is similar to State Trooper hats.
Great song! Very fun movies to watch! I recommend watching a few of them! You'll have a few laughs! Thanks for the reaction!
Proof that it's impossible to hear this song without smiling. ^^^ (for the record, I typed that before I heard Savio say it 8D )
Most of Jerry Reed songs are fun to listen to. A few off the top of my head is Amos Moses, Lord Mr. Ford, When Your Hot Your Hot, She Got The Goldmine I Hot The Shaft. You will love these songs.
"Smokey and the Bandit"!👍
Fantastic song by itself and also the main theme from one of my favorite movies! Jerry Reed himself acts in the movie alongside Burt Reynolds. Jerry drives the truck while Burt (The Bandit) tries to divert the sheriff (Smokey) with his car.
Ypu 2 make me so happy!
Great song from one of the best movies of the 70’s .......a fun movie to watch.......never get tired of it
Ok you have to stop everything and see this movie it's a classic.

Breaker breaker, good buddy!!
I'm enjoying a corn based beverage this Sunday afternoon here in America too. It's called whiskey. :D Very brief American history, in the time of the Smokey and the Bandit movie interstate alcohol sales were much more highly regulated than today. (to favor the big beer near-monopolies) Good guess Savio! Both of you have such great talent for putting on a great and thoughtful reaction, love your work.
The best character in smokey & the bandit is fred, he is a bassett hound dog so cute, long ears and short legs
ol jerry knows how to get the wheels rollin
Smokey and the Bandit is a 100% American bonafide classic movie
That’s some mighty fine picking and singing! Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins May have been the best ever technical guitar players.

Watch the movie. The truck driver is Jerry Reid
Smokey is a state trooper not local cop. One of the best trucker songs also 18 wheels and a dozen roses ...

A good quick comparison for the film would be "The Fast and the Furious," 70's style.
Come on flash we gotta go
JERRY REED SON!!!! Burt Reynolds is kinda meh. The movie is great, give it a watch if you haven't. And keep in mind its about bootlegging beer to a dry state.
