To feel the warmth of him, you have to have warmness in you ! People who didn’t find this funny should just watch modern shows… i find this brighter, almost as if I’m watching happiness happening in real life and giving away that happiness to the audience… smiled throughout the video…

I'm sure this was fine when it came out but it really goes to show that comedy just doesn't age well. To a modern audience this is profoundly unfunny to the point of almost being embarrassing. But I'm guessing all the stuff we find funny now will seem just as lame in 50 years.

Good comedy transcends time, like any art form. “The Nutty Professor” is as funny today as it was when it was first released and will be as funny 100 years from now. Same with “I Love Lucy.” These clips just aren’t funny. Jerry was never able to top the genius and hilarity of “The Nutty Professor.”

@@julietteyork3721 I strongly disagree, and what's more, your position is not supported by any empirical evidence whatsoever. You know how all the kids these days are watching Buster Keaton and the Three Stooges??...oh wait a minute that's not happening...like, at all. Go back further and it gets even more true. Have you seen what passed for comedy at the turn of the century? I encourage you to look it up. Not funny at all now. How about the Antebellum or Victorian age? Also not funny. You see, your argument that any art form crafted at a high level is good no matter what time it was made is based on a premise that you took as a given, but is simply not true: That all art forms are created equal and rely on the same elements to ring true to an audience. There is a reason why classical music from the enlightenment is still widely listened to but literature from that time period is pretty much only read by English majors and history scholars. That is because melody and rhythm largely (altho not completely) transcend culture. Music does not take an understanding of the cultural time period in which it was made to enjoy it; it just hits in a gut level. Similarly (altho less so) with painting & sculpture. Writing, on the other hand, is pretty culture dependent. And I would argue that of all the art forms, comedy is prob more culturally dependent than any other. It's topical by its very nature. You pretty much have to understand the culture to get it, because part of why it's humorous is that it examines the culture it's a part of, assesses it, and satirizes it. Of course there are always exceptions (Shakespeare, Monty Python) but as it usually is with limited exceptions, these overall prove the rule than discount it. And even then, I would argue that very few people who aren't university students are reading Shakespeare, and when you see a movie based on Shakespeare, the reason it works is precisely because it is interpreted thru a modern lens. Even take your own examples. Sure, YOU may love the nutty professor and I love lucy, but my strong guess is the percentage of people under the age of 35 who find those things amusing is exceedingly low. The numbers just aren't on your side.

@@jeanb3489 if you are really only 24 then you are an extreme outlier and an exception which only serves to prove the overall rule: that the percentage of people under 40 who think Jerry Lewis is funny (or even know who he is at all, for that matter) is exceedingly small.

Jojo Giles I’m a member of an “I Love Lucy” fan club and the number of people under 30 equal the number over 50. Like great music and the fine arts, great comedy - if it’s truly great - can be timeless. “I Love Lucy” is 70 years old and I guarantee it’ll have as many fans when it celebrates its 100th anniversary. Not all the episodes were funny, mind you, but those that were - Job Switching, Charm School, Hollywood at Last (Bill Holden episode when she lights her nose on fire) - will stand the test of time for generations, as will “The Nutty Professor” and nearly all of Jim Carrey’s work.
