Beautiful instrument. Beautifully played. (Growing up in the 1940's-50's, our Mama, from Kentucky, always called it the crying guitar".

My father Mr. Tommy L. Boyd (a legendary dobro & banjo picker)which is an old friend of Mr. Douglas helped him find a few licks in his early years ,....way back before I could even say dobro.... played with Larry Sparks and the lonesome ramblers. 60s and throughout the 70s. Among many others . Love you dad. Love that older style bluegrass .

Wow man amazing story, there really isn't musician that I respect more than Mr. Douglas. Full disclosure.... I'm a lifelong Texan that is 43 years old, at the age of 12 I got my first guitar, at 14 my first banjo and I haven't stopped picking the strings always fantasizing about having a fellow like Jerry in one of the bands I've played in.

I wonder if ANY of the people praising Jerry so much have EVER bought one of his albums? Either his solo work, with the Jerry Douglas Band or the Earls of Leicester, or any of the collaborations he’s released over the years.

The only people who haven’t done that are folks who’ve never heard of him before but once they do they’re hooked! I support him however I can, he usually plays Rockygrass every year and I support him however I can there!

I first saw Jerry Douglas on the making of Will the circle be unbroken volume II. I saw AKUS in the late 80's, or 90,s @ The Cardiff Coal Exchange, Wales UK. Superb, plays the Dobro with aplomb. So, so beautiful an instrument.🙏❤🙏❤

I'm always impressed by AK & Union Station's professionalism. It shows as they are willing to walk off stage and let Jerry Douglas rip by himself because he's so talented and the dobro is such a full sound all on its own. It certainly please the crowd.

Love at first hearing Wintergrass ages ago. I know the instrument is for background or fast tunes or with singers, but I personally prefer Jerry’s instrumentals. They really showcase his incredible talent and the peculiar beauty of the music he plays on the dobro.

Music snob 1: metal guitarists have the greatest speed. Music snob 2: Earl Scruggs leaves those fellers in the weeds. Hell, even that comic feller Steve sumthin does. Junior Brown: Lucky old biscuit board! Jerry Douglas: I did a song with Hiatt and a "bloke" from Australia called Tommy. Hope you like this next one.......BLAAAAAAM!!!!!!

This will sound sacrilegious but Jerry's arrangement of "Tribute to Peadar O'Donnell" sounds "too busy/fussy" to me...but, not, it seems, to anybody else.

  • @Cheesesteakfreak

It's not sacrilegious, just a self limiting perspective. Any music is better than no music at all. Great instrumentalists can do what they like, you don't have to like it. They aren't there to be graded by us.

I think it's true about "A Tribute to Peadar O'Donnell" If you listen to the arrangement on Moving Hearts album The Storm and compare it to this, The Dobro doesn't quite do it the same justice.
