Everybody quick to scream "no one is selling records anymore. Rappers can't sell records" it's cause the music is trash!!! Adele still making platinum music. J cole went platinum because he put out quality music with no features and minimum promo. all these rappers using the same formula and getting the same results. Get mustard on the beat, future on the hook, and drop the album randomly like beyonce... CLOWNS
@fashionablylate888

Truth. The consumers are tired of paying for music that sounds like everything else out there. Quality over quantity. Adele took 5 years off, came back and fucked up everyone's week.

+Cristatic Dawg j cole is hiphop. my point is people are purchasing music. people aren't purchasing trash. what cole put out aint sound like what most rappers are putting out. meek mill, future, migos, etc all put out the same shit with the same producers and the same features. thats whay all them get the same results. stip saying people aint buying music. they are. no excuses for the trash thats out. drake, cole, and jendrick still putting up numbers. wayne was even putting up numbers back in his carter days. stop it

I can't think of one artist he signed that didn't sell. Bow Wow, Jagged Edge, Xscape, Kriss Kross, hell the Franchise Boys went platinum rapping about T-Shirts smh. He most def need a lifetime achievement award for real.

I think a this phase in his life, the suit will get him recognized as a "boss". Get him his credit.
JD - Despite the negative comments and people being wrapped up into what happened to you in Janet Jackson... You're track record speaks for itself... You are an awesome producer that knows what he is talking about. Very knowledgeable of the business and has been around for a minute and will continue to. Longevity is everything and you look great in that suit!
To be honest albums now a days aren't even worth buying like they were in the 90's and early 2000's

JD droppin jewels! I'm definitely in agreement with the issue of how fast music comes out. It's cool to put music out to stay poppin' and relevant. But as a DJ, songs need more time to breathe before the next one. The next one be hot, but it kills the one that's out. Just my opinion... Great interview though!

That Janet question touched his heart lol
Jermaine Dupri knows his shit about the music business.
JD is a Legend no doubt about it
JD on point with his info about the game.. He is Legendary... Artist putting out all this music not give there stuff time to die down and drop some more music. The game is flooded..
The soul of Pimp C possessed him at the very end hahahahah
The way Charlemagne said mindless behavior had me dying lmao that shit popped in his brain and came out his mouth without a question lol
Much wisdom about music, and the industry. #Respect
This dude has one of my favorite voices in hiphop all time even tho he aint no rapper
When you take a quick glimpse at him, he kinder look like Dame Dash sitting there..
Come on Breakfast Club this interview was too short. This man's interview should have been an hour plus long. He's dropping knowledge, why wouldn't you guys give him more time? I enjoyed every bit of it and I'm getting ready to watch it again on You Tube.
Hey know what he talking about everything he saying is so true with the cultural of hip hop. People sleeping on Jermaine dupri that's the OG right their👌🏾
He is 100% right on his notion of attention spans. People do still have them. Cole sold a mill with Forest Hills Drive - NO FEATURE ARTIST. Kendrick sold a lot. I know they are the conscious rappers but they have the proof. Put an album out every year and get love. It can still be done.
One of the most underrated people in the game.
One of the most down to earth and liveliest interviews
JD is a very wise businessman...great interview!

JD got jewels and knowledge. He might not always be hot and in your face, but he's always working and is still here. And he's right about the business. Sometimes you need to just slow it down and let the music sit for a while.
You can say what you want about JD, but you gotta say this: Legend
Quality > Quantity
I think the show is great. It gives the kids a platform EVEN if they don't win the show.
Dope as an executive, producer, and a decent rapper. He definitely doesn't get proper due.
i have much love for JD his artists did very well thats the least i can say for Diddy he dropped his artists like a bad habit

I agree with Jermaine at 2 main points when he was talking about the way music is put out I feel like if a song is timeless it's going to stick with a person no matter how long it's been out. Most artist these days are only putting out seasonal music not music that will last for decades, & people can go back to it 10 years from now & play the song/album like it came out yesterday. Also I agree with having someone in your corner "quarterback" as he said because artist development is very much needed in today's music industry & I feel that's one of the main problems with these artist they come in this industry clueless & now they have nobody to show them how to conduct themselves!
BEST INTERVIEW I'VE SAW AND LISTENED TO IN A MINUTE! GREAT JOB JD! LOVE, AND APPRECIATE WHAT YOU ARE DOING!
Very insightful. JD was managing platinum artists when he was a teenager himself. As an exec he's slept on. And as a producer his discography is wild. He co-wrote "Always Be My Baby": end of story.
I thought I was the only person that felt that way about Drizzy, sounding just like Wayne. I guess they hung out so much their styles just kinda blended. Its like hanging with your homie and yall start saying the same dumb ass shit lmao. "Like man you done stole my words"
This nigga Bow Wow was really on the Class Room intro on Doggystyle . shit nigga might be a legend afterall

His money got Janet..remember she was married to Rene Elizondo for the 90s before dating JD in 2002 after he made most of his fortune
Swiss went to Stone Mountain, His senior year he was the DJ for all the dances. Shout out to the ROCK!
Very interesting interview from a legend!
Jd I don't got to comment on his work is so much I could say he just one of the greats
Great interview.
Shout out to JD. I just listened to interviews with Young Thug and Kevin Gates....and young rappers are dumb as shi-. It's nice to hear hip hop artists who actually make SENSE when they talk. I like that older rappers don't say "naw, i don't really listen to nobody else". JD is on his sh-- about other artists.
Welcome to ATL Remix was that ish
JD is right. It's the artists that has the short attention spans, not the audience. Artists are too concerned abt over saturating the market with music that all sounds the EXACT same instead of making a quality body of work and letting it breath.
This man is underrated , they sleep on him
JD loves to work with the kids
JD is a genius...I would listen to any advice he would give in a heartbeat
fucking legend...top 5 of all time
The Rap Game is a Really Dope Show I Watch it Every Friday Faithfully
low key JD a legend
Another good interview.
Me and my daughter really enjoyed his show.

People sleep!!! JD solo LP Life in 1472 was hard as hell !!!!! He had Nas , Dmx , Jay Z , Slick Rick , Snoop on that shit !!!!All on different tracks !!!! Or was that a soundtrack ? Whatever it was it was Hard.
JD Janet's dude,,,,,man im crying
This man made the demo for 2nd nature we now know as TLC, the rest is history. Jermaine Dupri is a living "legend". Grammy Award Winner as he would prefer

this interview reminded me of the reasons why i looked up to jd growing up
Albums are important to music lovers. I still love albums. I may not might it right when it comes out but I'll buy it.
Envy and all those lint balls on that beanie, lol
great interview a lot of good history man
Bow Wow vs Lil Romeo beef > Drake vs Meek Mill beef 😅

JD gave a great interview

If you're reading this... did go platinum
Very smart guy.
Mfers be hatin' on JD to the fullest like he ain't a legend. Check my guy's catalog. A list of hits and artists. Ain't ridin' his D. It is what it is. Mfers just hate the mane. JD'll make you a star. He never claimed to be a gangsta, hood nigga, etc. Just a nigga that loved music.
straight these guys have the right to be creative let em live
"Over 80 million records sold, and I ain't have to do it with 10 or 11 year olds"
Confessions was the last big black album . Never forget .
One thing I can agree wit is dudes are rushing to put music out..how u drop a studio album then a couple months later you dropping a mixtape..you didn't let the album grow on ppl, then the hot shit be on the mixtape now they really forgot about the album.Niggas got classic mixtapes instead of classic albums
people can watch TV shows on for free on youtube. JD is right. if you throw your music out like trash, people will use it and throw it away like trash.
The music has been put into the hands of people that don't understand or even care about the #culture. Jermaine Dupri understands the music as well as the culture. Few executives can dissect the 3..... #culturevultures
I'll watch this later on..

+Raven Evans He didn't let her fade away, she stop working. She got caught up in the success, instead of building a team to help her stay on track. She thought JD was going to hold her hand the whole way. Development and good work-ethic got to have them. Within the last year or 2 she's been trying to build herself back up to when she first came out.
J Dupri looking like a elegant Dame Dash in the the thumbnail.
really good interview, he made a good point about not everyone can be Beyonce.
