My mom was refused a promotion after working for everyone else and doing everyone else's jobs that she wasn't getting paid for. She had worked there with a bad employer, and finally said she was quitting. She found a new job which pays her what she deserves and doesn't have to do other people's jobs. 2 days after she got her new job her former employer called her back saying they needed her because the people who were supposed to be doing their jobs didn't know anything 4 months later the company goes out of business High five mom Edit: thanks for the likes!

I had a former boss call a meeting to declare we would no longer be getting breaks of any kind, because they cost too much time. I pointed out that that's illegal, as Dutch law states you have the legal right to a 15 minute break every 2 hours. He then called off the meeting and had me stay behind, so he could threaten me both professionally and physically for my 'unacceptable behaviour' of warning him that he would get arrested for going through with his stupid idea. Btw, he was by far the least productive person in the building. If we needed anything from him, we would start by checking outside, because he spent more time outside smoking and playing phone games than in his office. In the 4 months he was our manager, 2/3 of the staff quit.

No restaurant pays servers minimum wage. Most pay about $2 an hour then its expected employees will make up the difference in tips. This restaurant keeping the tips should be reported to the IRS. The manager might not be reporting it as income ... The IRS would like to know.

Same in Australia. I'm sure individuals try stuff on to see if they get away with it in franchises etc but if you call them on it, they fold. I had a guy lie straight to me about what sick leave my son was entitled to once and I knew the laws. He continued to lie. I rang their head office. Apologies from on high quick smart.

Agreed, I had it once where you could pay a part of your salery (say 10$) for a gift card and the business would match it (so if I said to withhold 10$ they would match it and my giftcard would have $20 when I received it, the other 10$ being from the company) was a good deal

Thing is, they had the $50 credited to their pay check, then pulled for the Gift Card. The employee did not lose $50 from their check. this is for tax purposes, and can actually get the company in a fairly large amount of trouble if not done properly.

An Amazon warehouse and a candle factory were hit by a tornado and collapsed, many died. At the sound of the first siren employees asked their manager if they could go home and were told no by management. When interviewed they lied, denying what they did. An employee at a restraunt received a $4000 tip and was fired for not "tip sharing". Bosses seem to be entitled a**holes.

I have to say this 'only in America'. I heard about the employee & the tip. The people who tipped swore they called in advance to make sure the individual employees would get the money and it was on that basis they chose that restaurant. The lying b*s*rd owners are still trying to cover their backsides but their story keeps changing. I'm sure it did their business a world of good seeings the whole world knows about them now.

While i was working at a fast food restaurant many years ago, I Once had a jerk boss who took over employee training room as his private office; even though there was already a manager’s office used by him & the assistant managers. I complained to a visiting district manager; the boss got reamed, & we got our training room back. (And he got canned shortly thereafter for other discovered transgressions)😀

My mother worked for a Kroger for a while and was a very good employee. One day when she was filling somebody's shift, she slipped on some ice and really messed up her back. (She had had surgery on her back previously and has really bad back problems) she went to management and they threatened to fire her if she didn't "shake It off" she was 55. With a rod in her back. With three back surgeries under her belt. So she quit. They were so surprised that she actually quit and they were so understaffed because of the employees not being treated correctly- They tried begging. Obviously it failed and now she's with Aldi. Which is a far better company.

yeah kroger fucking sucks. i did pickup there and was one of the only pickers willing to do the oversize trolleys (which would often reach 400 lbs and included a ton of lifting heavy objects) and so the supervisors would ask me to do them all throughout the day. i understood cause lots of the other pickers had physical health problems or were older and couldn't safely do them, and i enjoyed the exercise to an extent. but when you're doing all of the oversize almost every day for months on end, shit can take a toll. i ended up pulling something in my lower back (yes i was making sure to lift with my legs lol) and it was so painful (especially since i already have back issues, including a surgery when i was young) so i told them i needed to take a break from oversize until it got better. at first they said that was fine... until nobody was doing the oversize and we were running behind (the supervisors could have done it, and there were a couple others that could have but were just too lazy). they started asking me to do it again after just a couple days and kept pushing when i reminded them of my back, so i just did it very carefully. that shit didn't heal for months. i only worked there for a little over a year (only left cause i moved states though) but in that time i had to endure more sexual harassment from other employees than in my entire life; even worse than when i worked as security at a warehouse truck gate (20 y/o woman working round the clock with midwest truck drivers equals some genuinely scary situations, but still not as bad as that grocery store). and my friend that worked there had it much worse than me. i had to frequently pretend i needed her help finding shit in order to get her away from this one guy in particular who wouldn't take no for an answer. i learned very quickly that reporting any of this to management did nothing, as two of our higher ups worked at my store because they were sent away from their old stores for sexual harassment. they just did not fucking care. before the kroger job and the security job, my only other job had been at a daycare for a few years, so i really thought all jobs were going to be like that. surprised the hell out of me at my current one to not have to deal with it at all so far (most of us in my department are women and/or queer people though so that might have something to do with it lol). trade off is that overall management sucks, rip

I worked at a convenience store chain as a manager and was told by my district manager and regional manager I cared too much for my employees and to quit trying to always get the maximum pay raise for them. It was at the time .25$ they most of the time would only give them.05$ !!!! This was over 30 years ago but still only amounted to about 2% raise. Left my employment soon there after

Some of these bosses are scum but it did remind me of an after school job l got in a tiny burger bar nearly 50 years ago. 4 days in l got fired for being left handed. Boss said l was a great worker but, he couldn't bear to watch me "doing everything backwards". I was a bit shocked and pissed off at the time but it WAS nice not to smell of fries when l went home at night. Makes me laugh now though, also more fool him, every boss l had after him commented on what a great worker l was.

I was the last one to get my pen because my teacher couldn't accept my writing slanting in the opposite direction to the right handers. I had to contort my hand to make my writing go the way she wanted. Never forgotten that. A few years later and she would have copped it. Funny how people will discriminate for all sorts of silly reasons when they are allowed to.

@@tkps l hear you, as someone from the days of fountain pens, I remember you had to be quite inventive to not smudge the ink. (I wrote with the paper sideways.) When I was about 40, my mum mentioned casually in passing what my teacher at the wee country primary school l went to had told her. Said he had tested me kicking a ball and that as l was clearly right footed, in his opinion, my continuing to use my left hand to write was just me being stubborn and that he was going to tie my arm to the chair til he broke me of it. WT ACTUAL F‽ Luckily, she informed him that that was not actually going to be an option. Don't know if he would have done it regardless as he left pretty sharpish soon after. He made the mistake of giving one of the Māori kids the strap, kid went home and told his dad. Dad came charging up the hill like an avenging angel and laid the teacher out cold. Us kids had no idea what was going on so we all just buggered off home. When my mum asked why l was home l told her that Mr M had hit the teacher and the teacher was having a sleep. Teacher was on the train back to the city a day or 2 later. Makes me laugh nowadays as it couldn't have happened to a better person, reckon he'd hit all of us at least once in the few weeks he'd been there.

I do things my managers and director would never do all the time. It's my job to have no sense of self-preservation. I work at an animal shelter, and if any animal comes in that is too dangerous to handle, it becomes my problem. It at least keeps me valuable.

Had a similiar thing working in a supermarket. Had to throw so many litres of Coca Cola down the drain because "they couldnt be sold anymore". The expiry date was the next day. I wasnt even allowed to buy them for the bottle deposit value. So I drank my body weight in Cola and smuggled some out in my own bottle.

I once worked at a gas station with bistro. The boss was a total jerk (for example every time he scheduled himself for a shift he wouldn't show up, so you had the shift alone, and every time a non-customer drove off without paying for their gas he would deduct that from your payment and other things, if I were in the same situation today I'd quit during one of the shifts that he didn't show up to). In the beginning we were allowed to take sandwiches and so on home at the end of the day, but then some employee ruined that by making way too many sandwiches shortly before closing time, that definitely wouldn't get sold anymore, which gave the boss a reason so we weren't allowed to take them home anymore.

Finding a hidden camera in the bathroom and just quitting, even leaving the evidence with the suspect. Not wise.

Also the thing on photo is a motion detector. So either they could tell that there's a camera inside of it, or they quitted over a thing that turned the lights in the bathroom on and off (or triggered the security alarm).

I've seen the pic with the motion sensor. There was no camera in it, that was them misunderstanding. That picture has been shown with the original story in other/older videos.

Fun fact: Employers pocketing tips is illegal (edit: a good portion of these are illegal, actually). Fun fact #2: There's no good recourse when it actually happens because labor law in the US is essentially run on the honor system.

Not only that, but most employees (especially low-level hourly employees) are not on contracts; instead, they're considered "at-will". Which means, they can be fired immediately for any reason or no reason at all (of course, the employees can also quit on a dime as well without having to give notice). And, of course, it's hard for an employee to prove discrimination in this case, because no paperwork has to be written documenting cause for firing. So, yeah, US employers quite often use "at-will" contracts to be able to skirt many labor laws.

Just for those who didn’t get the Adobe Photoshop difference between Version 5.0 and Cs5 - well Cs5 would have been version 12 (released in 2010) and there are about 10+ years between the two versions

@@hawklegs6940 - if it would have been a nice or fun boss to work for he would have trolled first and then given the real thing - this video though was not about these kind of bosses. In this case it is more likely the boss was very tight and at the same time living under a rock. Otherwise the employee would’t have seen the necessity to post this matter or he would have given a positive account beside it when his boss had then delivered him the Cs5 later on - he didn’t. I just like to make the positive assumption that the boss did not want to troll the employee (because if he is not nice later on and he knows it is the wrong tool then al that is left is a jerk as a boss nobody should be working for - no matter how hard life is) and really tried to be nice, only just lacked knowledge of what was really requested and required. Therefore rather making a kind of an ass of himself.

I worked at a warehouse/retail store and a guy with a fork lift hit a shelf and later that night hit a water pipe this flooding all the stuff inside the shelves 🤣 boss wanted us to climb up there and his boss told him no, night crew would work on that , not that it was their fault but because he didn’t want us to spend all day not helping customers 🤣

Had a boss for a while who hired me as his "Photoshop Expert" because he wanted to learn it and he needed retouching for his wedding photography studio. He bought a very cheap PC for me to work on with very little RAM and would yell at me for how long things were taking. He was going through archives after I'd been there a month and looked at some CDs that I'd made to back up our client's wedding photos and design projects on. I had saved layered, high res psd files for some of the more complex retouching jobs or layouts with text, etc, and flattened tiffs to print from. He screamed at me for wasting space (we used a whole CD for each client's project, no matter how much or little was on it, so... ?) and demanded that I stop saving "weird" file formats. Instead I was to back up ALL CLIENT PHOTOS as jpgs. I tried to explain how layers work in Photoshop and why it was a bad idea to use a lossy format like jpgs for print files, but he threatened to fire me on the spot if I didn't shut up and do what he asked. sigh. So I did. A few weeks later, a client came in for final approval of her wedding invitations that he'd designed, but she decided she wanted to make a few changes to the text. So my boss puts her CD into the computer, and proceeds to spend 15 minutes screaming at the screen, and then at me in front of the client, because he can't edit the text. I just said calmly, "Do you remember when I told you why using jpgs was a bad idea? This is why." Walked out of the room, went to the back of the shop to work on the other computer, left him with the client to figure it out for himself. He had to recreate the entire layout. When he was done, he saved it as a jpg again. Yeah, I walked out a few days later. Two months or so after that, I drove past the place and it was empty. Dunno if he went out of business or just moved. I'm guessing he went under. haha

i don't understand why people go through the effort and cost of hiring an expert just to ignore them when it comes to the technical details of getting something done, generally if I hired someone for a job I just give them a list of criteria to meet and ask them if they can deliver on it. if not it becomes a series of questions on what's reasonable or not.

Man, I think I lucked out on my current boss. owns like 5 franchises of our resteraunt in town. came in one day, and he was wiping down tables. talk about a king fighting his own battles.

Damn, why don't these employers hang a sign that reads, 'Arbeit Macht Frei' and be done with it.

That "hurt feelings report" made my blood boil. I can't read it that well cause the text is tiny, but I think it even say things like "whiner's name:..." on there. Disgusting. Imagine going to your boss with a complaint, whether it's a serious one or not, and then getting that in return. I know many people aren't in a position to do so, but I'd tear that paper to shreds and quit on the spot. If you can financially support yourself until you can find a new job, just get out of there and never look back.

I posted my previous comment before I even saw that second one, which was even worse than the first imo In a way it's almost funny because you just KNOW that ''boss'' has the most fragile masculinity out there with that ''woman-like hormones'' comment. He'd be the type of person to call another man too feminine for not having rough hands covered in calluses for sure lol But yeah that second form was awful. Had homophobia, sexism and (iirc) racism in there. If that's not a red flag, I don't know what is.

If this happens in my country, the company would be shut down by now. And Western world call us developing country yet we protect employees more than employer here.

A friend of mine worked at a music store selling guitars. The music rep came in one day to discuss with him about some instruments to purchase for selling. So as he is talking to the rep he asks him if he had any free t shirts. The rep says yes and hands him a Fender shirt. His boss sees this and takes it away from him and puts a $15 price tag on it and tells my buddy to go hang it out in the store for sale. So my buddy says ok and just takes it home with him after work. His boss fires him for it. So that friday he goes to pick up his paycheck and the girl working behind the checkout register tells my buddy that he cannot have his paycheck and must wait for the boss to get in to get it. So my buddy goes, well can I at least see how much my paycheck is for? So she takes it out and holds it up for him to look at the pay and he snags that mf out of her hand and walks out. Oh that was classic!

You're right - under UK law, at least, the note is incorrect. Theft is defined as "dishonestly appropriating property...". It has been argued that electricity isn't a tangible "property" as such ,so a separate offence of "abstracting electricity" exists under the Theft Act to cover it. The employees would therefore be "abstracting electricity".

I've seen this when it comes to having things like microwaves and mini fridges (that I understand because they draw more power and they are a potential liability for the employer), but a phone, really that's just ridiculous.

I can just tell that a lot of this isn't in a country with a Fair Works or a Safe Works organisation like we have in Australia because holy hell they'd tear these bosses and companies apart!

(Edit to add for any that might read: Managers and employers are not entitled to your tips these days. I am not involved in a job that utilizes tips so I'm not up on current standards. I know Trump signed something with the DOL during his mid terms and I think the DOL has since put out some further guidance for clarification. While I pay attention the DOL I don't have anything to do with tips so not really on my radar.) Technically a lot of this is in direct violation of labor codes in the USA but that doesn't always stop it. I'd bet everything I own there are plenty of examples in Australia of employers shafting their workers too, especially the working poor. It's easy to shit on America without looking in the mirror.

We have some employee protections here in the US, but these photos are from situations where people were flying under the radar and getting away with it. It's not hard for a boss to get away with being shitty here because theres not enough manpower to keep tabs on everyone all the time. It's basically up to the employees to know their rights and report these kinds of things to the appropriate authorities

While that's tempting,the better approach would just say you'll be right back,come back and "submit it" but rather than actually fill it out write in sharpie "I quit!" If you're feeling extra spicy "Fuck you, I quit." No jail time this way. Crap like these power tripping bosses are why there's a mass resignation and labor shortage,they seem to not know how to treat their employees like decent human beings.

The first one was from the ARMY, which sort of makes sense. They don't give a shit about you. The second one was just plain cruel.

It's nauseating how people will "treat" their employees. It's no mystery that people dream of being their own boss or not having to work at all. I've always hated office politics and the "we don't want fair, we want quiet" attitude. "Take this job and shove it" would've been a good song to play in the background.

I uaed to install carpet years ago. It was alright for a while, then my boss started shorting my checks and paying me late. The final straw was when I was spreading glue on a concrete floor and my kneepad slipped. I stopped to adjust it and he yelled "Keep going!" I told him I needed to fix my kneepad. And he says "I don't care! Keep going!". I was seriously thinking about knocking him out. I went out for a smoke and got a call from a good friend saying he needed another guy for his asbestos abatement crew and he'd pay more than what I was making. I walked in, grabbed my backpack, told my boss to F*k himself and drove off. He called and asked where I went and I said "What part of 'go F*k yourself' did you not understand? I quit! Don't call me again until you have my final check ready". That felt good.

And the media asks why the "Great Resignation" in the USA is such a big thing now.

During the COVID era, people got such fat gibs as unemployment that it was more profitable NOT to work. Then they never came back.

It isn't just small business that do this crap. After an employee at a large, well-known aerospace company on the same contract as me died suddenly, it was mere days before said company started asking their mourning friends and colleges to look at resumes for a replacement. I am thankful to this day I walked out of an interview with them.

Using the break room to teach CPR instead of the training room may make sense. Our training room is mostly taken up by a huge conference table, while the break room has several small tables. The tables in the break room can be easily moved to provide a big floor space for CPR practice. The huge conference table, not so much.

I honestly felt like there were a lot that were completely understandable. Don’t get me wrong, most of the examples shown were bosses being jerks, but some of these felt like people were complaining about nothing. Like the one where the boss was hosting a Christmas party for his employees (which I would be very grateful for) but didn’t want people to wipe their hands on the nice, white towels that were probably just there for decoration. The person taking the picture was a lot more of an asshole in my opinion.

@@burkereid6401 In my opinion that christmas party case was a perfect example of "If you didn't want them to use it why would you leave it out?" it would have taken less time for the boss to put those towels away or just tuck them out of view than writing and hanging the note as they did. if kids are coming over you put away breakables, if you are having a party you put away valuables. Clearly he valued these towels and should have simply put them away. I absolutely find no fault in him not wishing them to be used by a countless amount of people at a party in the bathroom (I personally don't trust that all of my coworkers wash their hands) they could have gotten very gross very fast. it just seems like a lowkey asshole move to put the note up? like it might be in this compilation because it feels like a similar vibe to bosses who will post signs in all caps above coffee machines that read: "Coffee is for full-time employees ONLY". Like it may be true but it sorta feels like they are being an asshole about it if that makes sense

@@lilithium3940 It doesn't make sense. It may have made more sense to stow the towels away, but the note was entirely polite and reasonable. Anybody complaining about it is just being whiny for the sake of being whiny.

To be fair, a couple of these sound like jokes that got taken the wrong way - the boss's puppy for one - and the last one warning an employee not to play games on their phone during work hours... perfectly reasonable. The others though... pretty shitty behavior and/or lack of basic management skills.

@@MyRegardsToTheDodo I used to work in a health care facility where the staff not only played games on their phones, they also hung around the patients' rooms to watch TV. Verbal reprimands were routinely answered with, "What about them? Why are you singling me out?" On the day I left, I took one last look at the floor and the usual culprits were still at it as usual. Some bosses become jerks for a reason.

I don't even have a job yet and I wanna slap the frick outta these bosses. They're taking the title of the "boss" to just "bossy".

As someone who worked at a restaurant, the food in the garbage can KILLS me. The employers literally prefer to THROW AWAY FOOD instead of giving it away, and for what I see, it's the same all over the world. I had to stop for a moment when I saw that, it drives me insanely mad.

Exactly. As a road worker, I use cafes and restaurants frequently as they're cheaper and healthier than truck stops. I would be pissed if I saw food go to the bin. Lord knows my sandwich didn't cost them $12 to make so they can damn well give something to the hungry.

I know one of the reasons they don't is because of lawsuits. It's shitty, I know, but some people will turn around and take them to court if they end up getting sick or have an allergic reaction because of the food.

I can’t tell you how many times I had to take the trash out by myself AFTER DARK when I worked at the mall. And when I worked at the dollar store? Forget it. That place was so screwy and DIRTY. My manager didn’t even bother changing the mop water every day and there were a few cockroaches

Every one of my past employers would look at these and say, " I can't see what the managers did wrong. The workers probably just misunderstood."

These bosses reminded me. We were HVAC mechanics working to repair a large refrigerant leak in a boiler room. It's kind of urgent as it is for commercial building with about 500 occupants. We can't lite the boiler to provide heat because burning the Freon would create a poisonous gas. Boiler rooms have a large ventilation louvers to provide air for combustion and to relieve pressure when the boiler fires up. So, they collect a lot of dust. We are making repairs as quickly a possible when our new foreman walks in telling us we need to stop and clean up the mess. Being Journeyman mechanics we ignore him and finish the job. The foreman had been transferred from custodial services and when we told our shop Supervisor he just laughed and said give the guy time to learn. We are required have years of training, experience and a certification. Yet, Human Resources gives us a Foreman with no knowledge of the trade.

Ungrateful employer: "Why is everyone resigning from their jobs???" Mike Jetlov: "... FIND OUT!!!"

my grandmother told me she had to work a really long time for a terrible manager so she could pay for my mom and aunt's college. Once they were in, she was out.

As a manager for a small business, this all sounds horrifying

I had a boss that when I told her I was giving her my three weeks notice (I gave her more time in the hopes she would give me someone to train for my position) and she begged me to stay on for 2 more months because she agreed to send me to these other after school programs without ever informing me of them. She just planned to tell me day of and probably at 3am (this was a regular thing and a very big mark of why I quit among others). For context, I worked as a cooking instructor for children. I loved my job. The job itself was wonderful. It was very fulfilling. However, due to her mismanagement I missed the birth of my nephew, I rarely got any time off (and when I did I was guilt tripped), I ran class sizes that were way too big and way to young to expect any level of independence, she often over promised what we were supposed to be doing without ever informing us, never took our side, we had a constant turn over we employees were blamed for and were constantly short staffed because of (most times we never got to even meet this new employee), we were paid minimum and often got passive aggressive guilt trips of “if only you were better” and were passed on for any among of raises or promotions, we were NOT EVER given training before leading classes (that should have been my first red flag), and so so much more. And oh! Yeah, we got lesson plans the DAY of the classes at 3am and were expected to respond within an hour or less. I had so much anxiety and burnout after that job that my therapist I got after, and whom I told all these horror stories to, said she would have recommended I quit that job if I hadn’t already. We worked a lot on dealing with the burnout of it after. I couldn’t even meditate properly afterwards as I would just feel so empty I would start crying. I absolutely loved my job, don’t get me wrong, but the management was so poorly handled that I absolutely couldn’t stay and so I quit when it was a slow period. Oh! And yeah, she never hired another person to take over all the offsite classes I was running single handedly so I had no one to train in those three weeks. She still, somehow, thought I might decide to stay. I gave her an exit interview and everything but I was finally so exhausted from it all that I think it showed. I basically just told her to treasure her team, because they were actually good people who worked very very well together and were very talented. I did hear some news about the place recently. The corporate office took it back over (it was a franchise) and I heard that they wanted to hire me again. I have, however moved on, and am trying for jobs that have more benefits in health insurance (not ever provided at that job) and better chance for advancements and raises. I’m going to school for nursing actually. That job taught me a lot, and I loved it, but I don’t ever think I’ll go back. Maybe only if I desperately need a job at all. Or just want to do so part time. Don’t foresee having enough down time for a part time however.

my condolences for having to deal with a boss that incompetent.

Quit my job of 3 years about 6 months ago, when I put my 2 week notice. They asked what would they need to do to keep me since I knew how to run the whole department was even backup lead a couple times. I asked for a raise of $3, which was still less than the lead himself so I found it reasonable since the lead only knew how to be lead basically. Their decision was to give me a raise of $1 so it was the same as the guy I was training in, who also was only a temp employee for the summer. At my new job, I'm already making $0.50 more in 6 months of working there, and I took a $2 pay deduction for starting pay when I started.

The one at 1:10 has happened to our casino where they gave us a $50 gift card to Safeway but you can only use it for food and it expires within a week of getting it and the $50 was taken directly out of our checks needles to say we all collectively told the managers to put the money back on our checks and if not we would all walk out there were over 200 employees ready to walk out. ( For extra contexts this isn't the first time the casino has screwed over the employees.)

People are shocked when I pop em in the mouth when they scream "everyone's hiring, go get a job". Then I quietly go back to working on multiple online hustles by myself. There is a reason everyone is hiring and its about time these employers started getting tazed and dragged to jail, not just go out of business. I know the bathroom camera thing alone is jail worthy, especially if someone underage walked in there and used it.

200% chance these bosses say “No one wants to work anymore.”

Almost six years out of high school and people wonder why the only jobs I've had are childcare and housecleaning. I'm terrified of this.

A few ones were OK. Like the last one or the one where the order of spices was accidentally messed up. That can happen. Many others though...... these places need more communication and some of them need help from authorities outside the company. Nothing good comes from staying quiet while feeding further into the circumstances.

In some states, an employer can force you to come into work for overtime, as long as you’re properly compensated. In California, you get time and a half after 8 hours of work and double time after 12.

Almost all of them are despicable bosses/policies. However on the last one.. what's wrong with expecting you to be working instead of wasting the time you are getting paid for?

I worked for Goodwill and let’s say that place was awful. People think they are a good company that take donations and help people. But in reality they are awful. I worked for the computer store. They had crazy high profit margins for each day that we never reached, crappy people working there, and on and on. I mean there was a guy about to get promoted to full time. But the guy never came in on time. Was always an hour late or more working a few hours a day. Lol. My manager was an idiots d the guy above him was the one coming to offer the job. I had to tell him what was going on. I did payroll, was lead tech, and I worked only 3 days a week. It was shitty.

As Europeans we can not imagine that there are still such poor countries like china, north korea or this one.

The Peter Principle: people in a hierarchy tend to rise to "a level of respective incompetence"

I was harassed so badly at my last job that I nearly had a heart attack from the stress and was fired because my doctor's return to work note clearing me to resume working didn't include any medical accommodations required to prevent it from happening again. I'm not sure why "Stop being a jackass to your employees" needed to be spelled out.

Whenever I asked my one boss for leave I would be told it was inconvenient , so instead of taking 3 weeks I would only be allowed a week . When I left there I had 4 months leave still due to me , he refused to pay because we weren't allowed to accumulate leave . It made me feel good when turnover dropped more than 30% after I left .

This video makes me happy that I’m an unemployed stay at home mom to my son with Autism. Lol! He’s my boss and he’s pretty nice he tells me he loves me and everything.

My main motivation for being successfully self-employed was the sheer number of lunatics in workforce leadership positions.

The colon cancer one hit me hard. My parent was diagnosed with it and almost fied. He's fine tho, that a hole better have been fired for his wording.

My first vacation in 8 months, and my boss casually asks on Friday when I'm "flying out" for my vacation. I unthinkingly respond, "Oh, I'm not, it's a staycation." "Oh, then can you come in this weekend?!?"

There are many comments here with real people's sour experiences of horrible bosses. I would recommend that anyone dissatisfied with their work situation have an exit plan. I literally threw my resignation at my manager who had forgotten that he'd authorized 4 weeks annual leave. So much for the minimum notice required. He struggled to fill the void of the numerous resignations and relied on Asian students. 6 months later the pandemic hit and Australia effectively banned them entry. I was paid: long service leave, flexi time, and extra annual leave and took an early retirement. The pattern with a toxic workplace is: high staff turnover rate, low pay and shit working conditions. Many of these managers were clearly bullied as children and see the workplace as their chance to get some payback. The beauty of the internet is that you can now check up beforehand on a prospective boss and find out what former employees have to say. If you are stuck in a bad situation then I offer this advice: don't engage in idle conversation with an asshole. When the boss asks questions give him 3 answers: yes, no and I don't know. Further conversation is not required for a complete bastard. Eventually, they will give up on idle chit chat and only engage you on work related matters.

I once worked at a job that was so bad I'd have mental break downs over the tiniest thing because of the pressure. No schedule, they'd call me the day they wanted me with no pre-warning, and not even early. Sometimes I got. The call after 10, 11 ish. If I wasn't available (tho I'd had no warning) they'd get mad I wasn't available. If I tried to book a day off in advance (so I could actually have a life) the boss would break down crying. There's a lot more I could name, and I mean a LOT, but the reason I quit should tell it all. I booked a week vacation time Litterally a whole year in advance, it was approved with no issue. When my week that was booked came up they said I couldn't take it. The reason? Everyone else who worked there quit bc of how bad it was and if I left they'd have no one to do work there that week. So I quit. Anyways I saw a previous employee they had fired for not doing her job right there when I drove by sometime later. The funny thing is in the two years I worked there this employee was fired and rehired a minimum of seven times bc she was the only one willing to work there

My first (and current) job... I know all too well the stress of being called in regularly and without warning. I hate it, though it's not really my boss's fault. He tries to call his other workers, but a lot of them refuse to answer the phone, and a lot of times he'll get people calling off for stupid whiny reasons, the sniffles, the "I don't feel good" type stuff. And there've been more than one occasion of suspected lying, people saying they're sick but they've been seen in town and they looked perfectly fine. A lot of times, when I'm scheduled a day off... I can't actually trust that I do, in fact, have the day off. So from the time I get up until about 3-4PM, I'm finding it difficult to find the motivation to do much at home, because I know that if I get started on something the phone will ring. Though here soon, because my family is not doing well health-wise, I might just tell the boss, who is a good guy who I very much like working for, that I might have to quit if this doesn't let up. Nothing personal against him, he's a nice boss, and I like him, but I just can't take the constant call-ins.

If I were a boss in the field I want to be in, I wouldn't care if they were on their phones as long as work got done on time. Pokemon Go is pretty easy to multitask with at a desk. I've had incense going or shiny hunting in the main series games while doing homework pretty often, so I don't see what the big deal is.

We have to put up with shit like this and they wonder why no one wants to work for them. Get the asshole managers out of your business and you might have more success attracting talent. Also, learn the difference between being a leader and a boss. One will create a successful business. The other will tank.

I had a manager that would be with and help you schedule your vacations, making sure its a good time for everyone etc. 6 days before you were slated to leave, she would pull you aside and say it was a bad time and you couldn't go. Fortunately others in the department had told me of this habit, so the two times she did this to me I told her she had better arrange for the company to reimburse me my share BY my start date for the vaca due to my disgruntlement, get the money back from whatever my falily had prepaid on my stead so I could get their money too, and have the time within two months where I could take the vacation instead. I got to go on the origional date every time, and if I had shorter notices for smaller trips she kept her trap shut. Remember kids, there's lots of jobs out there, and you aren't a slave, you are an employee with a life.

Let the horrible flashbacks begin. I literally have nightmares about past jobs.

One time when I was about 17 and working a minimum wage job, had a boss tell me “Can you try not to say the word ‘hey’ so much? That’s kind of my word around here” ????? What????

7:33 😂 OMG it reminded me how I once visited my mom’s office some 20 years ago, when they used huge monitors which took 1/3 of the desk space :D And on EACH table there was a small pot with a cactus near the monitor. And when I asked my mom why are all of the ladies there so fond of cactuses, she replied with: “There’s a rumour that the monitors emit harmful rays, and that cactuses absorb those rays” :D Hilarious.

Close, I don't think that's server room. I only see one ethernet cable off to the left. It looks more like some machine's main control panel, and based on the terminal strips on the right, I'd guess an old one (I hate those style strips, they're simple, but never cooperate). We've got one machine at work that looks worse than this. It's pretty much just an agreed-upon fact of life that nothing short of a complete gutting and replacement can really help it. We try our best not to make it worse, but that's it.

I have way too many stories of bad bosses. They all have the same things in common: bullies, abusers, enablers, incompetent, vindictive, mediocre, and malicious.

I'd probably just write a response telling her lazy ass to do it herself or threaten to report her to the higher-ups for putting her employee's job in jeopardy for such a petty reason.

I worked at Walmart for nearly eight months and those were the worst eight months of my life. There were only two good managers and the rest were just assholes. They pushed me around, set extremely high expectations that the other employees couldn’t reach, and they couldn’t even give me time off for a nine day trip that was already paid for in advance. I had to quit because I just couldn’t take it anymore. Even my coworkers (though not all) were rude and arrogant. Wanna know why I couldn’t get my trip? Because the store manager won’t give anyone more than seven days off unless it’s a Covid leave. And I know for a fact he takes more than just seven days while he’s on vacation
