Jeremy Roenick, the Loudmouth Legend

I honestly enjoyed most of his career and he was always good for a soundbite or two.

Jeremy Roenick needs to be in Hall of Fame I never saw him play with my favorite team because I am too young but my dad tells me how much JR should get the number 27 should be retired in Chicago because he was that great. And my dad say it's a shame he never retired in Chicago because everyone knows it's Dollar Bill Writz for giving up for not letting him play his whole career in Chicago.

My buddy from Florida went to the Winter Classic in Pittsburgh last February. There was an event where Paul Coffey would be appearing at a local bar....this is at 2 in the afternoon. There is no one there yet, so Coffey sits down with him and has drinks, etc. and tells my buddy to meet him after the game. Coffey doesn't show up but the security guy, who was there with Coffey, invites my buddy to the seating area and Roenick is there. My buddy talks with him all night getting all kind of juicy tidbits about the teams that he played on. Long story short...Roenick orders drinks for my buddy's party and they stay there until 3 in the morning with Roenick ordering pizza for everyone. The topper is that they text the next day and Roenick is telling my buddy what a great time he had with his friends.....and....btw....I like Roenick on TV....he is not the most polished speaker, but he is honest and passionate. and, yes, he should be in the HOF.

J.R. is for certain a Hall of famer. Stats alone. He did everything, score/assist/pp/pk/fight, and huge hits. He was also a gamer with game winning goals. Some bad luck playing against a historic Pens and Redwings team and super close with the Flyers from winning a cup. 9 time Allstar! Epic personality for the sport love him or hate him. He's got my vote!

I watched his entire career with the Hawks. He is and forever will be my all time favorite player. He played with his heart on his sleeve, and he said the things everybody else was afraid to say. Everyone in Chicago loves him because of that. Too bad the injuries eventually caught up with him, but his style of play was entertaining. Not too many guys that could score as much, and hit as hard as he could...especially as small as he was early in his career. He will be in the Hall someday, and I really hope the Hawks eventually retire his #27.

Blackhawk fan during the Roenick years. Remember his 1st playoff game got cross checked right in the mouth. Held his tooth in his glove showing the ref & got the other player the 5 minute major penalty. Goes into the locker room I'm thinking he's done for the night as he is a string bean who took a vicious cross check. 2 minutes later he is on the ice skating & playing like someone stuck a branding iron on his backside. Will never forget that game or his career wearing the Indian Head sweater !

I think it is important to note that in that 07-08 season Jeremy Roenick on a league minimum contract, scored 14 goals, of which 10 were GWG. And then went 4 for 5 in the shootout, with 3 GDG there. Ovechkin (65 goals) and Roenick (14 goals) both tied at 10 GWG to lead the league. For some reason I couldn't find Ovechkin's record in the shootout that year.

JR definitely deserves to be in the HOF. He was royal prick during his playing days, but that's what made him so endearing. The guy had zero fucks to give and could back up his talk on the ice. How could you not like a guy who always speaks his mind? I do feel bad for him though. So he suffered 9 concussions on record during his career. We all know that number is significantly higher based on the era he played in. Guys in those days got their bell rung all the time and continued playing. I worry what state his mind will be in for the rest of his life.

Right away.. you could see he was impactful and fun to watch! Sorry that he has found himself outside the parameters of acceptability. Hard to make the argument he did not have a memorable and accomplished career..Cup or no Cup. No major awards? There should be room in HOF for a player the run of the mill American sports fan has heard of. That alone is a player of note.

Yes I agree with you that his career stats bear out that he should be in the Hof. Little story here. My son had completed his first heart surgery here in Philly at University of Penn. And we were a month out from his surgery and decided to go out to dinner downtown. My son lives for downtown and the atmosphere. Who did we run into Jr. Jr had a little bit to drink. He was very friendly but you could tell something was bothering him. He just spoke for maybe 10 seconds have a great season etc. He seem like a pretty amicable guy. But I always think to myself that pro Hockey is a business just like any other business you work for and you have your ups and downs. He seemed like he was down. But we wish him luck and moved on. Thanks for all your videos man I love them. I had aspirations back in the 70s for trying to be a pro hockey player. But it was the Yankee thing. Haha quick question do you have a Firebirds Jersey from when they were in Philly?

I just remembered an interview I'm pretty sure was with him. After U.S. disappointed in Nagano '98 and trashed their hotel in frustration, Roenick blamed the cheap furniture snd said they broke 20-30 chairs and tables just sitting around playing cards. Something like that.

J.R. was a dynamic player when he played for the Hawks, the moment ownership decided to not resign him & instead sign the "legendary" Alexei Zhamnov, it set the Hawk organization back for almost a decade until Dale Talon stated rebuilding the team with the core four of Toews, Kane, Seabrook, & Keith. J.R. was never the same player once he signed with the Coyotes as he started to sustain a bunch of injuries, to make matters worse he had to watch his former mates Belfour & Chelios win Cups after departing Chicago. J.R. would've been a no brainer hall of famer had his health not betrayed him during his career, he was still a good player who gave it his all but was never the dominant player like he was when was wearing #27 with the Hawks.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. This is why the NHL can’t attract fans in the US. When there’s an actual exciting personality from a Star no less they try to throw them under the bus. It happened with Roenick and it’s happened with Ovechkin. The NHL needs more players like Roenick.

Yep, they want the players to act like streamlined robots and say the same unremarkable clichés during interviews.

Hated him as a Hawk/Flyer. Loved him as a Shark and Coyote. Great player though. Definitely HOF worthy, though I doubt he makes it due to off ice reasons.

Kings fan here (used to live in SoCal before moving to Indiana)...JR did nothing, zip, nada for the Kings...the only thing we remember him for is when he danced on ice at the annual Frozen Fury preseason game in Las Vegas, that's it...does the HOF have a Vegas Showgirls category?

One can say that they enjoy the things Roenick says but he would say things to/about you to. He didn't seem to be as loved and cherished by team mates and that says something too. He is the type of player/person that will get into the Hall but will have to sweat it a while. It is other people giving him the shoulder for all the times he game them the business. It's fair in my opinion. He is more of a jerk than a straight shooter/charismatic. Plus...he got his money, why cry about a H.O.F. jacket?

If I made a lot of money because I sacrificed everything in my life but hockey so I could be good enough to be in the nhl, outplayed all my team mates and played though 9 concussions, then some called me spoiled, it would look like that famous time that the fan fell into the penalty box after harassing that guy. I forget who.
