As a proud Yorkshireman, I agree that Jeremy is correct about Nottinghamshire and Staffordshire.

My ancestors were Kilners, my grandma was a Kilner, from Yorkshire but I don't think I have a connection to the famous Kilner jar family lol, maybe a remote connection possibly.

His mother looks younger than he does.

My great grandfather was a millionaire doctor who did lots of charity for children. His wife and 6 children were left destitute after all the people that owned him debts refused to pay and every debt he owed was suddenly demanded paid by his widow.

i was born & bred in the rotherham area of south yorkshire and went metal detecting in conisborough castle grounds in the 80's when i was a kid. Found an early 20th century silver shilling as well.

Yes, same concept, but Kilner patented his design well before Mason. To avoid the patent Mason made the lid out of metal.

i think his mother got them mixed up, i googled it and mason jars are the screw ones whereas kilner jars are the latched sort, i’m from South Africa so we don’t get mason jars all that often, we use kilner jars most of the time
