We have to snap out of our bitter experiences and move forward. 3.Yes it does, but then my mum chips in with some inspirational advice and helps me snap out of it. Please check my grammar. So happy I could introduce you to her and her amazing work. Her protege was Vicki Lawrence, who became her "mama" in many sketches and eventually lead the cast in the show "Mama's Family." There are some funny scenes on YT showing the typical dialog written for Vicki and Carol. Remember they did a lot of live TV back then, so they had to keep a straight face. They struggled not to laugh and get out of character. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aIal3MWlc6_YgJM.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/oYJ7k6akg8LMZMo.html Personally, I love her as Miss Hannigan in the film adaptation of Annie. Hi Jen, 1. My team will have lunch together at my house this weekend and each person will chip in his/ her dishes or wine. ( Can I use "chip in" in this case?) 2. I think it depends on what kind of bad mood you are in. For example, when my father passed away, I feel like my heart broke into pieces and this dragged on for years. And I think, there's nothing could snap me out of this feeling (at least upto now). However, in a different situation like breaking-up with my boyfriend or the odd was against my project, this just dragged on for days or weeks. I snapped out of this by practising yoga or having a nice cup of tea/ coffee or putting more efforts in the next project. Thank you!

  • @Englishwithjennifer

    @Englishwithjennifer

    Hi. Thanks for sharing. :) 1. With that kind of lunch or dinner, I'd just say that everyone is bringing something. "Chip in" is more for work and projects as well as collecting money. So if you met at your house and decided to order food, everyone could chip in ten dollars. 2. Yes, it depends. I agree. So sorry to hear of your father's passing. CORRECTIONS: ..or when the odds were against me as I worked on a project, this feeling just dragged on for days or weeks. I snapped out of this by ... putting more effort in the next project.

    True. Very negative thinking isn't helpful for our overall health. I got my yoga mat out last night and did some simple stretches. I wasn't in a bad mood, but it's nice just the same. :) Corrections: 1. People don't really drag on. Things drag on, like a bad mood or a boring meeting. Phrasal verbs are conversational, so we don't often combine them with formal vocabulary. Compare: 1) If you're feeling down (feeling sad, feeling blue), your mother might tell you to snap out of it. 2) If you are in a deep melancholy, it can be difficult to recover and find happiness again.

    It's good to create examples and learn what sounds natural and what doesn't. DRAG ON can be used with illnesses, but not really injuries. Suggestion: Jeff was in the hospital after his accident. He didn't have insurance, so the paperwork to settle his hospital bill really dragged on. Yes, I understand! Sometimes the updates take forever. :( Suggestion: Windows updates can really drag on. Don't close the program during an update. SNAP OUT OF Suggestion: Jany, snap out of it! Jany, are you listening to me? >> You can use this when someone looks distracted and isn't paying attention to you.

    You can still gain good conversation practice by talking with other learners at your level. It's about putting what you've learned into use. You can sometimes find a conversation partner by joining a learning community. I know some people have had success with HelloTalk in the past. Just be careful who you decide to connect with. I write about HelloTalk here. www.englishwithjennifer.com/students/student-resources/

    Comedy on the TV helps us snap out of bad moods, but we get a doze of frustration when the commercial breaks interrupt our laughter. I watched a few episodes of Friends recently. A very funny show it is, but the mind-numbing adverts really spoils the enjoyment and sadly brings back our bad moods. I guess we just can't win.

    So true. I was just watching Carol Burnett clips. Are you familiar with her work on TV? I grew up watching The Carol Burnett show. Even after it ended, they would play reruns. Those comedy sketches still make me laugh. Typo: dose I suggest watching short clips so you can avoid the interruptions. It helps. You're right that the ads can be a frustrating experience; in fact, some can really drag on. (wink wink) I wish I could set a time limit on ads that play on my channel.

    JenniferESL It wasn't a typo, Jennifer. I thought that was how to spell 'dose.' Thank you for that. I will check out Carol Burnett. I don't think her show was ever shown here in Britain. The adverts on your channel seem to be back to normal now. The half hour ones are hopefully now confined to the history books. Thank you, Jennifer

    Maybe YT was experimenting with marathon ads at some point. ;) Carol Burnett became famous when variety shows on TV were popular. They were family shows, so kids could watch too, not like the late night shows we have today. She has a trademark Tarzan yell. Before I knew what improv was, she and her cast were doing it regularly. They always went of script, but stayed in character during each sketch. I wonder if you'll find American humor from the 1970s funny. Hee hee. We'll see.
