Its beyond insane that she didn't win american idol, nd she became even more successful than most winners

OMG, she did not mess up singing this song. This is one of Patti Labelle's signature songs and this is how she sings it. This comes from a gospel/baptist/old school form of singing that not many singers can do anymore. It's HER rendition, it's a tribute to Patti's rendition and she did it justice.

When you sing for Patti you can really feel her support that makes you wanna sing better because she cheers you while you sing..

Well the song wasn't meant to be sung like the orignal. Patti made it a soul versoin. Just like there was "The wizard of Oz" and "The wiz". Black folks just have a way of doin stuff diff from white folks. some people like it, and some don't. It ain't for everybody. In this versoin it's expressing how she wants to fly and what's beyond the skies, so she simply expresss anxiety for it. The song builds up anyway if you psy attention closely.
