Jen Brister | The Optimist (Full Comedy Special)

Комедия

If middle age has taught Jen Brister anything, it’s that optimism does not come naturally to her. In fact it’s fair to say that her cup is very much half empty and she’s making no attempt to fill it. Can Jen work against her natural instincts and finally see the light? Or will she stay the same old pessimistic naysayer she’s always been. I mean, I think we know the answer to that, but let’s try and be optimistic.
“No one does furious better than Brister” The Guardian
“A phenomenal display of sinewy stand up” Chortle
“Her energy is explosive. Her use of space and delivery, mesmerising"" The Sunday Times"

It was a great closing wasn’t it? I saw this live in Norwich & she actually did tear up when talking about her mum. She said “it’s obvious that I’m upset, and that’s ok.” Nothing weird about empathising with this!

We don't come to comedy for optimism. We come to comedy to acknowledge real life and take the piss out of it. If comedians aren't honest about our circumstances and successfully desensitize us to their gravity, we remain utterly depressed and unable to cope. Laughter truly is the best medicine. And Jen Brewster is pharma-grade funny. Plus a wet T shirt isn't a disappointment.

Yes!! Awesome Jen!!❤ Damn, I wasn't expecting the Spanish mom part.. such a great surprise! It was genius and it touched my heart ❤ Also just wanna say.. Please don't listen to these people, you don't need to justify yourself and your work Keep being the great comedian you are!! (As you are doing:) ) Honestly this thing about people complaining to comedians is so infuriating They are COMEDIANS! Of course they love THEIR children and THAT is what gives them the the right to JOKE ABOUT THEM! fuck's sake! This is also what happened to Romesh Ranganathan who said the same thing as Jen and it's pretty obvious from his special that he restrained from doing his usual jokes and he felt like justifying himself.. and that's so unfair and a bloody shame! Thanks for your brilliant art and thank you for the (thought provoking) laughs!! We need them!

Couldn’t enjoy all of it because of that but still gave a like because she is hilarious without all that nerve wracking energy getting in the way of my enjoyment with my personal particular hearing problems and sound triggering ptsd. Hope to get back to her comedy one day so of course, had to like and comment lol

I always thought Gweneth Paltro's "Goop" magazine should be called "Floop", since the candle. Incidentally, I sniffed the candle once. If her mommy parts smell like the perfume in that candle, she needs a qualified medical professional to do some investigation. There's a problem.

The only thing worse than lying to very young children is telling them the truth about everything. "No, there is no such thing as Santa. He was a cleric in the dark ages who did great work for poor children. He's dead now. Night night!" "No, mom and I were not wrestling when you walked in without knocking last night." "Yes, there are endless things to fear in the dark. Sleep tight, muffin." "Yes, Daddy is blind, but I can still see everything YOU do wrong. Go and sin no more." OK, that last one may have been a lie, but nobody's perfect, and every parent needs their own lore. 55 years later, mine is still in effect, and almost a religious belief with both of our kids. I am legend. But after 20 years of therapy for both of them, now they've decided to just lie to young kids no matter what, and no matter whose kids they are. My daughter is a craftsman with fiction. She told a stranger's kid just the other day, in queue at Target that SHE is the tooth fairy, and she was going to get ALL of the kid's teeth tonight. I blame myself, really...

11:29 US accent needs work. Never heard from a region/identity class mix that sounds like that. You’ve got both white and black women combined. Best I can decompose is a mix from Nashville to Georgia white woman, churchy suburban Texas, and bits of midwestern black woman and British. 11:29

Yeah because Americans are SO good at doing foreign accents themselves that they really deserve a perfect rendition of their own. 🙄 Every American I’ve ever heard attempt British sounds like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. Anyway, it’s a comedy show, not a serious dramatic acting performance. Also I’m guessing you meant ‘decipher’ & not ‘decompose’… that was awkward for you.
