{Music By Jefferson Starship}
Jefferson Starship is an American rock band from San Francisco, California, formed in 1974 by a group of musicians including former members of Jefferson Airplane. Between 1974 and 1984, they released eight gold or platinum selling studio albums, and one gold selling compilation. The album Red Octopus went double-platinum, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in 1975. The band went through several major changes in personnel and genres through the years while retaining the Jefferson Starship name. The band name was retired in 1984, but it was picked up again in 1992 by a revival of the group led by Paul Kantner, which has continued following his death in 2016. The group was formed by former Jefferson Airplane members Kantner and Grace Slick, and evolved from several solo albums they had recorded and a business decision to connect the two bands. They were joined by David Freiberg, Craig Chaquico, John Barbata, Pete Sears, and Papa John Creach. Former Airplane frontman Marty Balin subsequently joined the group in 1975, and the following year's album Spitfire was a top five hit. Slick and Balin both left the group in 1978, leaving the remaining members to recruit Mickey Thomas as their replacement. Slick rejoined the group in 1981, which continued with minor chart success. Kantner quit in 1984 and took legal action towards using the name; the remaining members became Starship. Kantner reformed the group as Jefferson Starship: The Next Generation in 1992, which toured regularly throughout that decade and into the 21st century. Following Kantner's death, the group continued with new members; Craig Chaquico filed a lawsuit against them in 2016 for continuing to use the name, and the suit was consequently settled.

They did good.❤
Jefferson Starship is one of the great rock bands of all time. They continue to impress fans across the US If anyone gets a chance to go see them live it will be money well spent. I heard them twice last year. Thanks for sharing this concert.
David Freiburg on the left it’s his band now. He’s 85 yrs old !!
they have the spirit of the airplane..the guitarist has an awesome version of embryonic...i give it the stamp of approval, i was there in the early days.
Band sounds great! David still going in his 80s is amazing. At 60 I have half the stamina😅
I was at this show in the front row! Great 👍 concert! Glad you put this out there
Kantner, Slick, Balin, Mickey Thomas, all revered missed and respected, not to mention Chaquico
I used to like to go see this band when Paul Kantner was alive and loved ‘em. Since Paul passed I’ve seen the band twice. These guys can blow the roof off any venue. So, David, Kathy, Jude, Chris and Danny keep it rolling till the wheels fall off. Carry the fire!

I lost interest after the lost Paul, Marty and Slick Aguilar. At least David, Chris and Donnie are there. I do applaud them for carrying on with the music and they still blow away most bands but, for me, it wasn't the same once Paul departed this world and man do I miss dear Marty and his voice. Also, I have to hand it to David for still going at his age. He is an amazing, sweet and enlightened fellow.

That's great and all but they need to invite Mickey and Craig back into the band end of story.
I was in the hospital for two weeks and was only out for two days when I was wheeled in on Thursday night. They sounded pretty good to me and the price was right. They were close enough to Jefferson Starship to me.

I love that the music lives on. It’s like Paul said, “Carry the Fire”. Cathy can sing like Marty, too. And Jude Is just a great player.
Great show last night in Westhampton Beach, nice to see Chris lost the mask.
Amazing group

Are there any original members? From the bio, seems like not probably. Got to open for them in Salida , CO in 2000, only Mickey Thomas was with them then. Good audio and video on this!

Imagine if you will, being able to go back in time to inform the 1967 Jefferson Airplane members that there would be a future incarnation called Jefferson Starship that would, for better or worse, extend from the 1970's until 2023. You have entered The Twilight Zone.
Paul and Ringo have the wisdom to not call their current bands “The Beatles”.
Meu Deus quanto talento com toda essa idade ainda cantando ❤
What you can point out with "Jefferson Starship" in the current present, is that they are giving you a live performance without backing tracks, without the help of iPad as a band. This current lineup is playing all the songs the most "organic" way. Take out your personal politics, for I couldn't care less about them. Jefferson Starship with their current lineup gives you value what an '"iconic" band should sound live. While we debate "Jefferson Starship versus Mickey Thomas and his Starship" we can find common ground that Jefferson Starship & Starship (featuring) Mickey Thomas are playing their fucking instruments live. Paul Kantner would celebrate this victory on many levels. Go see "Jefferson Starship" and see what real musicians sound live in-real-time. For the love of Pete, focus on the playing your live music behind your instrument and without backing tracks. Jefferson Starship does us a reminder, to focus on the live gig! The current lineup of Jefferson Starship, decided to not tour with a bass player. You have three guitarists, keyboards, and a drummer. I am curious about why the band decided on doing that? Any insights from you, the audience would be appreciated.

All these musicians have been with Jefferson Starship when Paul Kanter and Marty Balin were alive. David Freiburg is only remaining original member and does great job at 80. Cathy Smith is excellent singer. How many bands can have two different versions playing after all these years. Mickey Thomas still sings great with Starship while this Jefferson Starship will play more Jefferson Airplane songs in concert than the Mickey Thomas version. They are more than a tribute band. They came out with original material for album a few years ago. How many tribute bands do that?
Jefferson starship? Really more like a tribute band.

Saw him in 1993 when they came to Fallon, nevada, for the cantaloupe festival. He performed somewhere over the 🌈 rainbow on his violin. He did a great rendition. It was the only time I saw them in concert. I live in Ca now.
Mickey Thomas version is the best version of Starship. This version is good but just not as polished
Damm - Frieberg's singing just keeps getting better & better as he ages ! He was great way back in his QMS days & now I'll put him right up there with Marty Balin, Steve Perry, etc. Sure miss his fine Bass playing though - him strumming a 6-string or thumping on keyboards just doesn't look/seem right to me.
Cathy Richardson rules!

It's extremely vivid isn't it!! Nice video. the camera microphone is not bad either. not exactly in the best spot to get the band mix though. to close to the stage for the camera mic to get a great mix but not bad at all. I want to know what was used also. thanks for posting bud. nice job. Next time get more in front of the PA in the center of the room. Your ausio will be so much better. you are picking up more stage volume than what the audience is hearing.thanks again.

Jefferson Starship?? Where?? This is just a band performing their songs. But really why hasn't there been a documentary on this historical group, Jefferson Airplane?? Their songs are still popular and will always be, so where's the proper tribute to this super talented, band??

Nobody who would have grounds to sue them for ownership of the name "Jefferson Starship" (and would care enough to do so) is alive today,
The guy on keyboards looks ridiculous with that mask on....lol.
Tribute band only.
This group is nothing close to the real starship. Unfortunately even the last few years with Kantner they weren't very good.

There is a lot missing when Paul Kanter, Grace Slick, and Mickey Thomas aren't part of the band. They never broke up easily. At least Grace is now just collecting the checks and isn't much into the whole contraversy. I would rather they be called something music of Starship, although David and Donny were in the band during the Jefferson Starship days. Same with Foreigner when eventually Mick Jones hangs it up.

Jefferson Starship was Paul Kantners baby. Mickey Thomas did a good job for awhile until he decided he was more important than thankful for being added to an already powerful painting. He tried to take the band in a much more commercial direction. He got the rights to continue under the name Starship. Now Grace is another story. She was part of the creation....as well as SUNFIGHTER & BARON VON TOLLBOOTH AND THE CHROME NUN. Definitely 2 Jefferson Starship offerings under different titles. Especially TOLLBOOTH. Yeah she betrayed Paul to some degree being part of that Starship episode .... I think she finally came to her senses.
Mickey Thomas is performing with Starship featuring Mickey Thomas. He still has the pipes and sounds better than this version of Jefferson Starship!

Sorry. The mask wore by whoever, is crazy. Always thought of history of this group was freedom of thought.
First saw the original Airplane at the San Jose Civic summer of 1966, and many many times after. Lived in the Haight downstairs from Jack and Marty before they moved to Fulton ... this is a damned good band, but not hardly the Airplane or the Starship. A good tribute band but ...
This isn't Jefferson Starship. It's David Freiberg milking the name.

This is an abomination, though they're adequate as a tribute band. RIP Paul and Marty, but it's hard when this shit has them turning in their graves. The Airplane and early Starship was great, but the best were probably the 2 albums under KANTNER & SLICK, Blows Against the Empire and Sunfighter. Bash away.
