Right from the first chords played I know what I'm about to jam to. I've heard this song so many times and yet I won't fast forward because it's such a great song to just groove to. So many good songs with this band. Though Grace Slick was more prominent in Jefferson Airplane, she does sing some songs with Jefferson Starship and Starship. There's a song they sing called "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" that is featured in the 80s movie Mannequin that's a good song and a cute movie as well. 😎👍

BJ, the drummer on this song is also the drummer on the next song y'all reacted to. His name is Aynsley Dunbar. He was in Journey before he joined Jefferson Starship. He played with Whitesnake, Jeff Beck and David Bowie back in the day. He is literally considered one of the best rock drummers of all time.

  • @Jessica_Roth

What happened was that John Barbata, the drummer for Jefferson Starship (who had been in The Turtles and Crosby Stills Nash & Young before that) got into an awful car wreck, took a couple of years to heal, and ended up retiring from music. (He's fine. Just quit the biz.) So the Starship needed a drummer, and as Journey wasn't exactly a big name (and perhaps Dunbar thought new vocalist Steve Perry was changing the direction of the band too much), it wasn't too hard for them to convince Aynsley to switch to the #1 band on the San Francisco scene. (Of course, within 5 years, Journey had gone supersonic and were doing stadium tours, but so it goes.) Dunbar had left the band by the time Paul Kantner (RIP) also quit, meaning that there were no original Jefferson Airplane members left, and so Kantner was able to stop them from using the "Jefferson" part of the name. (Remember, Grace Slick was not an original part of the Airplane.). But as "Starship", Mickey Thomas and the group had enormous success anyhow. ("We Built This City" and so forth.) Indeed, they once again surpassed Journey, who were broken up by then. So Dunbar kind of missed the boat, both coming and going. The drummer on those later "Starship" albums is Donny Baldwin, who's with the touring present-day Jefferson Starship. (Kantner's dead, so they can use "Jefferson" again.). Singing for the group appears to be David Freiberg, who was playing the keyboards and doing backing vocals on this track. I don't see Mickey Thomas listed as being in the current group; I think he's touring on his own, nowadays. (The reason poor Chris Smith doesn't have his name in blue on Wikipedia is because, unlike all the others, he doesn't have a Wikipedia page of his own. Guy's been in the band for 25 years now; they could give him a little bit of respect, lol.)

@Jessica Roth Aynsley was actually fired by Journey after a gig in Oakland in 1978. He actually sued them over it - and won. I don't think he officially joined Starship until early 1979 but I don't remember all the circumstances. I know Freedom at Point Zero didn't come out until late 79.

Welcome aboard the Starship, Mickey Thomas. His vocal power helped to launch this group into the upper atmosphere and beyond !! Mickey Thomas was paired with Grace Slick after leaving Elvin Bishop, whose song FOOLED AROUND AND FELL IN LOVE, you recently reacted to, gave the group a new and updated sound. His vocals also brought them new fans and new glory at the end of the 7o's. On their next album, MODERN TIMES, two songs display real thrust and are underrated gems in their catalog, which built upon this success. FIND YOUR WAY BACK and STRANGER are very powerful. Enjoy

@Asia and BJ *ASIA ASIA ASIA!!!!!* This post is specifically for you!! You and me are the same when it comes to the guitar and I *REALLY* want to turn you on to a song from the same album as this song. It wasn't a hit or anything but I'm truly hoping you'll overlook that fact and give it a listen on your channel. I've been imploring nearly every reactor to check it out with no luck. Please please please be the one to break that chain. The song is called "Awakening" and it's about 7 minutes long. I feel as though it's what this band would sound like if they were a full-time progressive rock band. Of course, to the point, the guitar in this song just rips, especially during the outro. It's Craig Chaquico on the lead guitar. The rest of the line-up is Mickey Thomas, lead vocals .... Paul Kantner, rhythm guitar and backing vocals ..... David Freiberg, keyboards and backing vocals ..... Pete Sears, bass guitar and backing vocals .... Aynsley Dunbar, (who had just left Journey) on drums. Please please please be that Supergirl for me and see your way clear to *experiencing* this song. If I could, I would bet my life that you won't regret it!!! The cherry on top is that I want everyone that watches you two to experience it also. It *IS* that good!! BTW, much respect to BJ, you guys are really great together and I wish you much happiness in the future regardless of your decision.

Mickey Thomas was the vocalist in the studio. Paul Kantner was one of the founding members, but he died in 2016, so he is no longer with the band. This is a great song and was a rock station staple back in the day. My favorite by far by Jefferson Starship was Find Your Way Back. I bought the 45 of it and played the hell out of it......

One track you need to check out is Mickey Thomas solo track "Stand In The Fire" from the Youngblood ST. It was written by the great songwriter Diane Warren, and features only three musicians. Producer Peter Wolf playing the keyboards and programming a sick drum machine beat. And guitarist Dann Huff laying down a fiery rhythm guitar line, and lastly, fellow Starship member guitarist Craig Chaquico ripping on a tasty lead guitar solo. If you don't react to it, at least give it a listen.

One of my all-time favorite songs & guitar solo , the entire song is a great guitar song , and YES this song was in HEAVY ROTATION on MTV , when they played music ! Don't go to see them now , only ONE member from this era is still in the band , it's not the same band , not even close .

I don’t know how many original member of Jefferson Airplane remained in the band at this point. There were at least a couple including Grace Slick, although I don’t know if she’s even on this track and I don’t know when Mickey Thomas joined…probably when they changed the name to Jefferson Starship which later became just Starship. Hard to believe this is the same band that did “White Rabbit”, but this song is fire.

Hey guys you’ve both heard Micky Thomas sing before, and recently, when you both reacted to the Elvin Bishop Classic, “Fooled Around And Fell In Love.” You’ve also done another Classic from this group when they were called Jefferson Airplane in the 60’s and early 70’s. Grace Slicks’ amazing vocal on “White Rabbit.” This is the late sixties perfectly encapsulated in a 3 and 1/2 minute song. Try “Miracle’s” next. Very cool. 🤘😎
