Jeff Teague DEBATES Michael Jordan’s Dream Team vs. Kobe Bryant’s Redeem Team | Club 520

Спорт

Jeff Teague and the Club 520 guys debate whether the 1992 Dream Team with Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and others were better than the 2008 Redeem Team with LeBron James, Kobe Bryant more. Jeff explains how the Dream Team would SMOKE the Redeem Team, as the Dream Team bigs in Karl Malone and Charles Barkley would dominate.

The Redeem Team was weaker at the PG position and the Center/power forward. Melo would have given Pippen a good matchup. I think the 2012 team had better players bc young Durant was a problem. But Kobe had already declined by 2012…he wasn’t the same athlete as in 08. Tyson Chandler didn’t need to score for that team. Steph wasn’t really Steph yet though in 2012…idk it’s close. Jordan in 1992 was peak though and Kobe in 2008 was barely past his physical peak…he had one year as #24 where he was as athletic as his #8 years, but he lost a fraction of a step by his MVP season.

2012 team from top to bottom was filthy. They were all in their primes as well, with Kobe being the oldest at 33. Everybody else was under 30, in their prime and athletic peak (with the exception of Anthony Davis who was a rookie at 19). If you're talking about each individual player at their form and age when they were playing in the Olympics, I'm taking 2012. Prime vs prime, I'm taking '92

Iguodala (2012 all star), Deron Williams (2012 all star), Tyson Chandler (2012 DPOY, all NBA) were also at their prime during this time (all under 30 except Kobe at 33). Magic and Bird were beyond their primes and Laettner was easily the weakest player on both teams. 2012's "weakest" player was AD and we all know how great he is as a player now. Again, we're talking about at their age when they played in the Olympics, I would take '12. In their PRIMES, I would take '92.

@@ChaosTemplar I think the only guys on the Dream Team not really in their prime were Magic and Bird. And to think, Magic was only 32 while Bird was 35. Everybody else was around the same age...give or take a few. MJ was in his "absolute" prime (1st 3peat) which is usually around 27/28-30. When I say absolute, I mean when their physical and mental ability is at the top at the same time. That's the time where you can't really do much with that player but just hope they have a bad game. MJ had no weaknesses during that period. So to conclude, I have to go with the team that had the real #23 on it. That guy just doesn't lose on the biggest and final stage on "any" level whether it's college, NBA, Olympics, FIBA or other Int'l play.

@@jtremaine23 I respect your opinion but at the end of the day it's a 5 on 5 team game. Lebron, Durant and Kobe were all in their prime so it's not like 2012 had a lack of HOF players either like 92's. I only edge it slightly to 2012 because Bird and Magic were a bit older and Laettner is arguably the weakest player as well from both teams. If they were in their prime, I'll take 92 any day of the week.. I'm not trying to disrespect the 92 team. I'm just saying that 2012's team was just as great if not better.

@@ChaosTemplar Lol...they don't have to play Laettner like they didn't in Monte Carlo or wherever that famous scrimmage was. I wouldn't say Durant was in his prime yet though as he was only 23. It's the same reason I wouldn't say MJ's prime was early on even though he was leading the league in scoring just like KD. LeBron was in his prime and Kobe was still good. Our definition of prime may differ. The frontcourt of the DT would be too much for young AD and Chandler. MJ, Drexler, Barkley, Malone, Stockton, Ewing were around the same age. I wouldn't sleep on Bird though even with a bad back. Their captains on the DT had that "will".

Yes but some countries had players that could have either been NBA players or at least, a lot sooner than they did. Oscar Schmidt didn't play in the NBA even though he was drafted but had the skills (has over 40k points). The older Sabonis played in the NBA too late (Jokic before Jokic). The last US team had all NBA players and got beat by teams with just a couple of NBA players. People usually forget something that's just as important and that's....chemistry. I say all that to say...the Dream Team still beats all of the teams the Redeem Team played and I think they beat them by more.
