2016 was my eldest daughters first time at Glastonbury. I was touring abroad (I'm a rock n roll bus driver) When i get a txt msg asking " Dad who should I see?" Her options where .. some Crapper wrap band or ELO. Suffice to say that after the first 2 bars of Mr Blue Sky..... She called me. Dad.. I Love you.

RIP Richard 'Magic Fingers' Tandy.

It's hard to imagine now, but "Mr Blue Sky" was just another minor song in ELO's deep catalog and got almost no radio play in the US for 25 years. That all changed in 2002, when a Volkswagen commercial finally brought it into the mainstream consciousness. Masterpiece.

Just looked it up and it didn't break top 20 anywhere besides the UK where it peaked at nr 6. This is the case for a lot of classic songs though. Bowie was beaten over and over again by The Osmonds for example. :)

This really is music at it's best. ELOs combination of rock n roll with opera and classical will always live in my head rent free.

This is exactly what inspired Jeff in writing this masterpiece in the Swiss Alps in 1977 as the weather was so nasty during many days and suddenly one morning he got up and the sky was so blue without a cloud in sight.

To be able to play such a complex musical piece live, and have it sound better than the original studio recording is truly amazing.

This is the first time I see a public performance of this sublime song played ENTIRELY ! This last part, on a background of clouds with choirs and strings when we usually only see a video without musicians, is as fabulous as it's moving.... 😥
