Jeep Wrangler - Wheel Hub Bearing Replacement! YJ, TJ, and JKs - Install for ALL Wranglers 07 - 18!

Ойындар

In this video, we install a driver side wheel hub bearing onto a 1993 Jeep Wrangler YJ. Since the brake caliper has to come off, it is a good idea to do a brake pad change as well. We also cover the installation of brake pads for the YJ as well. The install is relatively straight forward, but you will need special tools to do it. Such as a 36MM socket to remove the large axle nut!
This process is the EXACT same for all Wranglers 1987 - 2018. That includes YJs, TJs, and JKs. Modern TJs and JKs will slightly differ from this process with the additional harnesses that need to be removed (wheel speed sensors) to get access to the hub.
This process may also be the exact same for CJs and JLs as well, but I cannot confirm that.
My jeep has wheel spacers, so that is an additional removal step required to access the hub bearing. If you do not have spacers, then your install will be slightly easier.
Rattletrap YJ has its own Instagram account if you guys would kindly follow it!
As always, thanks for tuning in on OctaneSlain!

How long has the wheel spacer been on the hub ? I was curious to know if they prematurely wore the bearing out , I have them on my Jeep and it’s always in the back of my head but it keeps me honest and check everything when I service it.

When I first bought my Jeep it had 190k miles on it back in 2014. The front end suspension was SHOT. I was also a fresh college student, so I just ignored it. I wasn't very mechanically inclined back then either, so I didn't really know how bad it was. But the tie-rod ends, ball joints, front hubs, and overall shocks and springs were all bad. Fast forward a year later, I finally bought a lift kit to source new shackles, shocks, springs, but still ignored the truly important front-end suspension because I just wanted that "lifted" look. You know, typical teenage mindset lol. A year after that, I paid a shop to replace the passenger side balljoint and hub. Didn't have the money for them to do the driver side. I'd say this was 2017ish? I figured I had the lifted look I wanted, so I threw the 1.25" wheel spacers on the jeep all around. Even on the driver side that still had a bad hub 🤣 2018 I started focusing more on cars and kinda left my Jeep to sit. It wasn't until I went through my car phase and learned a lot more about mechanics and wrenching in general. So here we are 2024 and I finally started giving the Jeep the love and attention it needed. So I wouldn't say the spacers accelerated the wear, but I did throw them on when the suspension needed love anyways. Sorry for the long spill, but as long as you are running hub centric spacers and are keeping an eye on them regularly, you should be good to go!
