For the most part, the only effective way to run really big and wide tires on a Jeep JK Wrangler is to have them mounted on wheels with very little back spacing. Of course, it's practically a necessity when you're running something like an EVO Double Throw Down coil over system and while they may get the job done, they're far from a perfect solution and not without their consequences. Certainly, the more you offset the center line of your wheels, the more stress you put on things like your ball joints, wheel bearings and even tie-rod and this is to say nothing about how they'll effect your ability to steer. It's because of these issues that Dynatrac decided to challenge what we've all come to accept as normal and design a better solution using their awesome XD60 front axle. As luck would have it, Cindy and I would get a chance to help them out and with the assistance of Rubicat.
In this video, you'll get a detailed look at the design, development and building of a 72.5" Dynatrac XD60 front axle complete with PRO 1550 steering knuckles, setup to be run with an EVO DTD coil over system and optimized for Trail Ready beadlock wheels that have 5.5" of back spacing. We hope that you'll find this video to be useful, educational and that you enjoy our presentation.

Being able to watch your amazing piece of mechanical art being made, I have to admit to being jealous of you. That is truly awesome of Dyna allowing this to happen and for you to sharing with us. A favorite for sure!
Awesome. Very talented group of people! From the designers to the machinist to the assemblers! Great work!

Agreed!
Direct access to some of the manufacturing insight being applied is great. Appreciate the effort put into this. The scrub radius and related reduction in turn radius is something that's gnawed at me as I contemplate lifts and wheels. One of the features I love about my stock JK is the turn radius. Of course, anything after a Suburban has a great turn radius...but still!
Not only are your vids (especially the dynatrac vids) super helpful in explaining all the cool tech that goes into products you use, but your vids in my opinion are incredible sales tools for the companies you represent. Because of your videos especially, and because of Dynatrac's relationship with you and other popular youtubers, the liklihood I'll buy Dynatrac's when I upgrade to 60's is like 98%. I don't know how much the companies you represent in you videos appreciate what you do for them with your excellent productions, but I can pretty much guarantee they've seen a bump in sales just because of the work you do. I am so appreciative of the depth in your content when it comes to upgrade products. Hats off, brother. Thank you!

Thank you Paul, we really do appreciate you saying as much. If you do decide to get one of these axles, we'd be super grateful if you could please let them know that you watched and enjoyed our videos. The only way they know we're of help to them is through people like you :) I should note that we are currently testing out Dana UD60s on our Gladiator and hope to do similar videos to this in the near future.
It’s an absolute pleasure to watch someone do something right, from start to finish. Thank you

Amazing how well these are put together. These dang videos make me want to modify my new stock Rubicon! But since I'm towing it behind an RV I'll have to be nice and keep it stock for now...
Good to know how my axles were built! Thanks Dynatrac and Eddie!

Wow. That's pretty amazing to see how these things are built.
Thanks for another excellent put together video showing all the details and the "why" behind it all.
Not many JK’s I am jealous of... you got me on this one! Ordering these axles!

Awesome! We'd be grateful if you could let Dynatrac know that our video helped to convince you to buy a set. 👍
I can’t believe how much I learned from this video! Great work!
One point not raised in regards to scrub radius that presents a huge advantage in how the car drives as well driver comfort, something that particularly struck me as the reason I would want a setup that improved scrub radius numbers is that of steering wheel feedback, if you hit a bump with one tire, or one tire first with poor scrub radius you get a tremendous amount of feedback through the steering wheel, even with powersteering but much worse without, with poor scrub radius and large hits the steering wheel will literally rip your hand as the leverage caused by that poor scrub radius acts on your king pin. Even on smooth surfaces you will get increased steering wheel feedback from warped disk brake rotors or unbalanced tires. The comfort to be gained by improving steering geometry cannot be overstated. This will be a far more comfortable ride with a better scrub radius both onroad and off.
Great Job Wayalife!, and Dynatrac for taking the time to allow this video to be filmed. Thanks for giving us all a front row seat and lesson!
Awesome. Can't wait to see the trail footage.

Outstanding video! The demonstration of scrub radius at the end is the most poignant I have seen outside of a vehicle dynamics text book.

Question: With the 5.5" backspacing it looks like your hub is extending outside the beadlock ring. Is that the stub hub kit? Is the hub as vulnerable as it looks?
Great video Eddie.
Incredible videography 🤩😍🤩😍 ... Mr. Dynatrack better give you (2) two each a free axle of your own to hang from your rearview mirrors 😁; there can be no better form of advertising than this! 🤗🤗🤗

Hey Tony, hopefully you'll get to do it sooner than later :)
Really fascinating process I love watching this stuff. Dynatrac anytime you want a jeep to borrow I’m your guy.
Amazing guys,congrats!!
Phenomenal piece of engineering. I feel bad for Moby...being set to the side and treated like the middle daughter. Well great video as always and looking forward to seeing a good in depth video of normal driving around town and of course on the trail. Your videos just keep my blood flowing for my own JK one day. I'm about 2 yrs from my JK but I'm saving my $$$$$ and doing my research especially for how I want my rig to look. Thanks again for a great video and with any luck we might see each other on the trail one day. :)

LOL!! No need to feel bad for Moby, he's still got a 6.2 LS under his hood and it's not like his ProRock 60 front and ProRock 80 aren't worth mentioning :)
That's dude Eli welds are very clean!!! Looks awesome Eddie. Cheers from phx!

Wow! And I thought my ProRock 60 front axle was bulletproof. This thing must be BOMB proof! And the regular prorock 60 isn't exactly weak... I love mine!

Trust me, the ProRock 60 is still an awesome axle and it's what we're still running in the rear of Rubicat and what we're still running up front on Moby.
Very informative video. Learned a lot.
So cool. I (as a novice gear head andJeeper) now understand why new axles are so expensive. Quality made in "Merica

Two questions... Can you build this axle for a Jeep YJ??? What are the wheel dimensions required for this application???
Could you guys do a video explaining the purpose behind the double throwdown suspension you're using? I am having trouble finding any good info about the purpose and pros/cons of it. I only found this channel last night but so far the videos are great and I love the content.
@wayalife

A double throwdown will allow you to drive hard and fast across the desert as they'll do a great job soaking up big hits. If all you ever do is go crawling, they are total overkill.

So I take it there really isn't a downside other than cost? Also thank you for the answer I kept searching after I commented and still didn't find any good info.
Xok when's the trail test video ?
I need a dynatrac in my jeep!
Would you consider building offset axles like we used to have in the Volkswagen buses.I know it's a bit of an issue with the front axle but Mercedes does it.
Man i cant wait to own a wrangler
Hi Eddie, do you have the names for all of the background songs that was used in this video? i love it
good job 😍😍😍😍
ca'ching lol ok I'll donate my JK for the next test 😎😎 Great video !
With all that engineering why not go with a 14 bolt ? My 14 bolt has custom cut , reverse cut gears Tru track and 2 1/2 ton Rockwell hubs and disk breaks . It is a fantastic axle . But with your engineering it could be a 100 times better . You guys are awesome . Ever think about Rockwell f 106 ? Why Dana ? I am not criticizing just curious .
Amazing..👍👍👍
Do you build dynatrac for ford ranger? just a thought or to any types of 4x4 vehicles? thanks
I WANT ONE!
great video! On another note how do you guys like those cooper tires? They might be the next set I want.
@wayalife

Honestly, we love them. They hook up way better on the rocks than our old Nitto or Toyos and have found them to perform the best in the snow for a mud terrain. Certainly, they're no Duratrac on the slick stuff but way better than any other MT we've run in the past.
Can you please compare the Dana vs Currie? Love your content.

now those would look funny under my cj2a.

Another quick question what size tires are you running on RubyCat after the axle upgrade?
Like the way dynatrac workers do there job. Seem to show what there making will last. Sure it costs. So when they gonna do a JL, show improvements. Good video, buy those guys a pizza, beer optional.
So want them for my jk
Nobody should ever complain about the price of Dynatrac axles. You are lucky to have a product like that...completely value added.
Beautiful American manufacturing. curious I the price tag on this axle
Are you running bigger wheels to allow for the larger knuckles? I did not see the wheel size on the Rubicat build specs. Another great video by the way!
@wayalife
6 жыл бұрын
Nope, still running 17" wheels.
@23:38 are the bolts coated with silver anti-seize and a dab of red Loctite?
So how do they weld aluminum to steel on the spindle end?
do they leak? If so, after how long? 6 months? years?
What is the size and strength comparison with a dana Super 60?
SOLD!
@wayalife

Just an FYI, there's been a recall on the aluminum knuckles for cracks in them. I would give it a bit for them to figure it out before placing an order.
Hi Wayalife, i have one question, in this video did you also replace the rear axles with the widen xd60 as well or not? if you didnt that means the wheel track will be different between the front and the rear, because the JK is running the same 5.5 inch backspace TR wheels. Another really awesome video BTW.
@wayalife
6 жыл бұрын
We had our rear 60 lengthened to match.
$$ beautiful $$
The ball joints go on the knuckle, and not on the Cs?? That is the way God intended it 🙌🏾
My prorock 60 still works fine. My question would be, is Dynatrac considering building standard Prorock 60 steering knuckles out of the new materials to help lighten the weight and improve the strength? Or would in not be considered cost effective?
@wayalife
9 ай бұрын
Actually, they no longer make and use the aluminum knuckles that you see in this video and being that they were breaking. The XD60 now comes with iron knuckles and truth be told, are way heavier.
does these people make custom axles? reason I ask I want a pro rock 80 for live axle conversion on a expedition?
why axle manufacturers won't use kingpins any more I mean what's the cost difference between KP's and BJ's
I have a 2022 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. I have a RTT bed rack and haul other gear for boon docking and overlanding. I’m considering an axle swap, I’ve already upgraded gears in the Dana 44’s to 5:13. Do I need to upgrade axes?
@wayalife
Жыл бұрын
Unless you're planning on running 40" tires and wheeling it hard, there is NO need for an axle swap.
nice video i'd like that in my 2010 jk. i'm from Toronto send me a pair!!
Goooooooood
Muito bom!!! 👏👏👏👏👏
Should have put 10.5 ring gear in theses axles with the 70 pinion
@wayalife

Yup, should have
Was hat a great axle
Great video and awesome axle the beast out there, its just sooo over priced its ridiculous... I will stay with my junkyard chevy dana 60's
When you going to upgrade moby?
Drain plug?
By reducing the Scrub radius, does that increase instability at highway speeds due to less force keeping the wheels straight? It makes total sense for the trails, but just a question since I will have to still have this as my main vehicle.
@wayalife
6 жыл бұрын
To be clear, this axle simply restores your scrub radius back to what you would of had stock while running 40" tires. It has nothing to do with trail use per se but rather, putting things back where they should be.
@marclaky384
6 жыл бұрын
Scrub radius is dictated by wheel offset and tire diameter. Axle doesn't dictate scrub radius. You can get positive or negative scrub radius by changing offset.
Awesome stuff. Goes to show, if you have enough money you can build a rocket ship.
