Jeep Stuck in the Mud - Don't buy your recovery gear on Amazon🤣
My friend Gary got his Jeep and trailer stuck in the spring mud, so I took my old Ford truck out to rescue him. Don't buy your recovery gear from Amazon. Although Yankum ropes are mentioned many times in this video, no actual Yankum products were used in this recovery.

Jason, kudos to you for helping Gary in his pinch. Just some armchair observations that I would like to highlight. These can be ignored and I won't fret about it. 😊 Traditionally you would want to pull from the rear of your truck (if you have the option) for two reasons. One, if any of the metal mounting hardware comes in your direction, it will find you. A hood up can suppress some if not all of the missle, but that isn't certain. Second, rear loading your ring and pinion is the weaker of the two options. The R&P are designed primarily for forward torque. Again.....I have no skin in this game, and you can do with this info as you like. I won't rib you about it any further. 😅
Van stuck in the snow, Jeep stuck in the mud...welcome to the Primarily Stuck channel. 🤣 Always good to see Gary make an appearance though. 👍

I think Jason needs to watch Matt’s off-road recovery! First rule is never disconnect the trailer!
The old Ford reminds me of Daisy and Wheeler. RIP doggos. Thanks for the informative video Jason.
When using a kinetic rope, the idea is to leve some slack in the rope and get a bit of a run up not just pull on the rope . That is a static pull.

Well, since I was really bogged, and could dig out due to the cement, we didn't want to try and pull too hard. Just wanting to see how much give before we did. Not much give and you saw.
I personally have seen several Warn winches fail or not powerfully enough. I have the exact smitty Bilt since 2015 and have recovered vehicles heavier than your van out of the South FL Swamps. They all break. The rope and shackles not the strongest , but I am sure they'd be fine. A good tip is to pop your hood when winching so it won't go through window. ~ James & Meghan.
Friends helping friends. Very cool. 😎👍
Jason your a good person and a great friend, good on you for helping a Brother out👍
Been there, done that. Good to see that things worked out. 👍
Lesson in life, some times you gotta go backwards to go forward ✌️🍾🎉
Great recovery!
Great realistic video. Experience matters and quality friends matter. Gary is fortunate to have you as a friend Jason. As far as equipment... We get what we pay for. Lesson learned.

@@PrimalOutdoors Not to tell you not to help your friends, but sometimes, the best way to return the favor is to connect them with a person knowledgeable in the area where they need help (in this case, my first thought for a recovery in that area would be Casey and Cascade Heavy Rescue)

@@over_and_out_gary Casey Ladelle’s whole thing is towing and recovery, and he swears by the Harbor Freight Badlands winch and official Yankum Ropes gear, so that might be something to take into account next time you have to stock up on gear
The old ford saves the day!!
We thoroughly enjoyed this one Jason! A bit of reality out on the tracks reminding us that you can never be too prepared for what nature can throw at you. Great, we'll thought out recovery 👍🏻
When I was out at Congelton Hollow earlier this spring a guy there was telling me that even Search and Rescue was getting stuck in the mud out by Glass Buttes doing drills and needing recovery. The early spring mud can get gnarly out here! Great video!!!
Oh no poor Gary! Wanted to help him out that weekend but we were tied up. Glad you could get the job done Jason! Also good to see you in town the other day!

Thanks. There were a couple others wanting to help, but put them on hold in case Jason and I had no luck. Surprised us both that he was able to pull me out of that muck.
It's the worst feeling being stuck. Thanks for the video
Glad you were able to help. I’m nearby to you guys, if you want to start a search party for the recovery board.
The frame on that trailer must be incredible. I was shocked when he pulled the entire rig out backwards tied to the trailer frame. Wow! I have to say that is a ringing endorsement for the trailer manufacturer. Love that beautiful central Oregon.
This is a great example of a recovery with a trailer, nicely done!
I've pulled 2 full size trucks, a small suv and a large Amazon delivery van out of the mud with my 2013 2dr Jeep JK. All I had were Harbor Freight ratchet straps and only one of the four broke. I have a kinetic rope and tow strap now but a winch will have to wait. Great video Jason, you're a good pal for driving that far for your friend. Three of my 'recoveries' were in my front yard and one was around the corner.
Thank you for the great video
Yeah... those "Softroadingthewest / Out & back Oregon" cups are a little too small to drop into a standard cupholder and stay put. 😁
We have all been stuck in the mud or the snow. It is a great relief to have friends save our behinds. We explore, we get stuck, thank God we have beer or whiskey and the ability to by a meal to save our back sides. Well done! 😂
The good news is... if you go out later in the spring, there will be a fresh crop of MaxxTraxx growing where that recovery board was lost.
Glad to see you unstuck the wrangler. I reluctantly parted ways with my wrangler(2007 unlimited) , not nearly enough hp. Got my first Ram & never looked back. I would have tried pulling it out from the rear also, stay on the trails, till next time.
Thank you Jason for helping Gary, we owe you home baked cookies!!!! Jill

Need to learn from Matt's off road recovery. X2 on the kinetic rope pull. You gotta get a running start, not just pull like a static line
Nice work.
looks like fun, yah mud season 😀
Can't pick on the Smittybilt winch too bad, Gary did pull me out with it in Christmas Valley when I buried Clifford in soft sand.
Fun video, Jason! Trial and error is how we learn. Eventually you end up getting it right (or else you don't show the video! Ha!). Hope to see you at the PLS cleanup on April 13th (I did a promo video with your interview in it). Looking forward to more of your vids! Bill.
We need to get you some Mounatains & Moore and Pine Thicket Philosophy stickers for that cup... Long time fan, going back to the days of the trailer with Daisy and Wheeler. Still enjoy your stuff, keep it up!

should have called Casey....... LOL!!
Pulling it out the same way it went in, what a concept. Good vid no arrogance.
That short low growing sage brush, "silver" sage, beside the road is an indicator of a seasonal high water table. If you're going to drive on it in the spring you'd better have a good sense of humor and a strong back! Once you've broke through the surface crust, there's no bottom to it. Nice recovery!
A Highlift jack with an off road base and liftmate wheel hooks would have made self recovery more possible in my opinion. You should consider adding these to your set up.
Jason's newest endeavor . . . The Primal Recovery channel. You should be very afraid, Casey.

Great job! 👍🏽😀❤️🇺🇸

2 guys with very minimal offroad recovery experience……what could go wrong😆
I don't miss towing at all....
I believe that today contained 2 shots across Donalds brow concerning site selection you say! Nice having friends that you can rely on old Ford came through.
Sheeze. Winches are critical and worth the research to get a good one. Also recommend steel cable over twine. But that's another subject.
Hey, Gary has a cool rig, can you do a video on his rig?
I can't remember what Chrome had on his E-250, either a Warn or SmittyBilt, but it went out on him and he replaced it. I can't remember which way he goes, but I think I've only seen him use it twice. That looks like it was used more, because Chrome always tries to not use his equipment. "Can I get under this tree!?" Me: "Just use your chainsaw!"
Sometimes it's how you use the equipment that causes the problems. My brother always helps pull out guys in 4x4s with his Ford 2WD truck because people think 4x4 means no problem, lol.
🥰👍👍👍👍👍hurray your out.
With a couple exceptions, NEVER unhook the trailer.
Smittybuilt 🤦🏼 I’ll stick with a Warn. I was surprised how well that worked in reverse. He was definitely on the frame.
That's not a Smittybilt recovery board is it? 😂
👍
My recovery gear shackles are Crosby 12.5 ton WL Sling saver shackles, and instead of a recover strap with two eyes mine is a continuous one that has a WL many times the weight of the vehicle I have. I only use products that are certified with a WL and Crosby Shackles are proof tested to 2.5 times WL. People need to stop dicking around with inferior product, just go buy a spool of Dyneema SK99 or Spectra rope and make their own eye splices and load it on your winch. Dyneema SK99 is stronger than steel cable and significantly smaller in diameter i.e. you can fit more line on your winch drum. The other great feature of Dyneema is that it has lower energy if it should ever break unlike steel cable that can whip and severely injure or kill bystanders. There are hand winches made in the Netherlands by Gebuwin that could be used instead of another electric winch, these winches have tons of gear ratio and have two input options, the person can use the handle or use the secondary input stub and connect to a battery operated drill. A winch is something that is used very rarely so using a hand operated winch in an emergency is perfect as it cannot break. The largest hand winch Gebuwin makes has a pulling force of 7,500kg or 16,535 pounds. This winch also has 120m or 394 feet of rope storage, just think of all the recovery options with this much line. With a few snatch-blocks you could double or triple the pulling force for when you are in real deep shit.
HI JASON & GARY 👋 HOPEFULLY GARY PUT A PING IN HIS GPS FOR THERE & COME BACK TO SEE IF HE CAN FIND IT LATER WITH BETTER WEATHER 😉 ? Wow, I guess I hit a nerve also, like you said truth hurts. Why do you bother to watch his videos if you have such animosity towards him?
Would enjoy to see breakfast also...
Have you never seen Heavy D's channel?
Dude, i had one of those 12k smitty built winchs. The cable cladded newspapercore line sucks bad. They sent me a second one it failed also with a snachblock on a jeep.
Which 4way air hose system do you have or suggest?
That winch should have pulled that Jeep out no issues. I have a lesser quality 12000lb winch on my GMC 1 ton that has never let me down. Even the cheap winches are decent quality nowadays. Manufacturing has become so automated and raw materials have become so refined the era of super crap products is all but over.
Not sure I'd want to do a recovery using the customer tools.
I'd say if he got the trailer off if would come out. Just speculation. Good video regardless.
The choice on the Smittybuilt was being able to rescue my truck. Not to be a Rescue Truck.
Why didn’t he disconnect from the trailer first
I’m no expert, but disconnecting trailer and tow from other direction to get out of mud holes? From video and pulling on front looks to be getting more stuck
Definitely have to be careful with dubious sellers of cheap gear. That said it's a lot like tools cheaper ones may get you by but if you plan to really use something its generally better to find something of good quality regardless of price.
There is a reason it’s called shitybuilt!
Your video is hard to watch. Is your camera good? Its shaky af
Guaranteed this has nothing to do with shopping on Amazon. If you have a jeep with a camper trailer stuck in the mud that bad, you’re going to need a very strong winch, not just one rated for the weight of your vehicle like a lot of people buy. You need to add the weight of the trailer and account for the drag of the vehicle being stuck which is the same as adding maybe double . So you’re talking a 10,000 lb winch or more.
There's nothing wrong with buying your gear off Amazon, just buy quality gear.
90% of the video is what not to do. If you’re going to use a kinetic rope, leave some slack and “yank it”. Don’t use it as a tow strap. You can’t build any kinetic energy that way. Also- nothing wrong w buying your recovery gear from Amazon. As long as you buy quality gear. I bought plenty of factor 55/warn gear from Amazon.
how about Harbor Freight, instead?
More lack of knowledge of recovery than lack of expensive gear!
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽😂😂🤣🤣
I know 17 already said but kinetic rope ...call Matt...never unhook trailer and set rope full length then go close fifty percent run at it st speed to losd rope thst then released energy to pop up jeep...try more than once... Jason sorry im number eitheen but watch Matt video..........sorry
Don't buy a jeep.
