Just installed my system yesterday. Thanks for the video and the suggestion of a redundant backup system! Much appreciated.

Thanks for letting me know, I’m glad it helped. I have taken the top off and on multiple times now and it’s working great!

Thank you for the detailed views! I am about to install this system for a TJ. I plan to add an electric motor from harbor freight and see how it goes.

I have one and love it as well. On the safety concern I put an eye bolt on the four corners where the hang ropes are and once I get the top up I put 2 ratchet strap’s across the bottom and tighten them up. I was more concerned with rope slipping and the top coming down then with the eye coming out of the wall like you concern.

The leg bolt is probably 50 times stronger then the pull it is holding

I installed this today for my roof top tent. I tied off the end of the lines to my heavy duty storage rack with a D-ring. Kinda acts as safety catch for the line. Cheers from CA.

@@KicktheTiresChannel Just finished the install and works good but definitely worried about the point of failure that has been described... Can you post some pics of what you did with the lines to the D-Ring?

All these over price hoist systems are not only overpriced but way more complicated than it has to be. I bought an $85 2,500lbs wench from Harbor Freight, a 2x12 board at 8ft long, drilled some holes for the wrench and nut/bolted the wench to the 2x12 and then tossed it all above my ceiling joists and nailed the 2x12 above the joists once I got it where I needed it. I lowered the hook with the wireless remote it came with, and got a 100ft nylon rope for the straps. Since I have a Gladiator I went under the front of the hard top with one rope and then another separate rope inside the back window and through the front of the hard top and tied figure-8 knots on both sides of each of the two ropes once I got the size I needed and then cut the excess off. And that was it. I have a powered hoist that lifts my 85lbs top off that HAS a weight maximum of 2,500lbs and everything is bolted and nailed down. Took me all of 30 minutes to slap together and I guarantee you it’s stronger than this $450 rig in the video and it costs no more than $100 all together.

Thanks for sharing, I thought about doing something like what you did but the kit was only $150 not $450 so I went this route. It does look like the kit is now $195 so inflation has raised it some. I have had it for a couple years now and everything still works great!

Pretty clever using the 2500lb "wench" she can do all the pulling for you. Does she eat a lot???

Your exceeding the 90 degree angle on your breaking block, this is the reason for extra friction at this point, recommend relocating the block directly above where you are pulling. Should be an easier pull. Also the closer tour are to the pull the better

Go and purchase an electric hoist from Harbor Freight. $99, and you can bolt it to your ceiling. It's more secure than the current set up. No pulling on ropes to lift the top. I have an open attic space, so I ran a metal superstrut across the joists and bolted it down. Cut a hole in the ceiling to drop the hook through. Works like a charm.

Mine is lifting the back first and leaving the front lower..what could be the problem? The set up looks like everyone else's

Mine just started doing that also. I am not sure yet, it may have something to do with lining up the car correctly. The other issue I just started having is that clips don't get loose enough and I have to left the top up to latch. If I figure out what's going on with the one side being lower I will let you know.
