Jeep Gladiator Review: What Makes a Great Pickup Truck?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It's 2024 and you're looking for a new pickup truck, but kind of wish you had a Jeep Wrangler... Is a Jeep Gladiator a good option? This is mostly a review of a 2021 Jeep Gladiator with about 12400 miles on the odometer at the time it was being reviewed. However, it's also posing the question: What makes a great pickup truck?
It's November 2023 and Stellantis has still not announced a Jeep JT Gladiator V8 option. Do you think they will ever make one?
I actually drove this exact one for the first time in 2022, but it wasn't enough to merit a review at the time.
The first generation Gladiator was introduced at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 28, 2018, and went on sale in the spring of 2019 as a 2020 model year vehicle. Some upper trim levels include the Rubicon and Mojave. More information: carssimplified.com/x/jeep/gla...

Awesome quick review man! Reminds me of the old school Motor Trend reviews, but brought into the present and with a cleaner presentation style. Interesting to know the Gladiator actually rides fairly nicely even without a loaded bed. They are one of my favorite pickups currently available, but I think I would like one with a hardtop since I get sick of road noise and it will be cool to see if the 4xe model is an improvement.

Thanks! It's definitely my favorite US spec truck available new right now, ignoring some of the top trim level options available on other trucks. I'd be curious how insulated the hardtop is from noise.

I just bought a Mojave trim Gladiator - I love it. Its a capable 4x4 and a truck. I'm coming from an Audi Q5 - the Jeep has a better interior - why? 1. Because it looks and feels like quality parts were used and 2. I can mod it without too much hassle, which is the whole point of owning a Jeep. The vehicle is fun - not just something that takes you to the grocery store. BTW - I have a hard top and the road noise around town is nearly zero - at highway speeds it more noticeable but you're not elevating your voice to talk to your passengers or turning up the music to hear it. Is it as quiet as my Audi - no. Is it too loud - no. If I could go back, I might have even gotten the soft top. Bottom line - road noise w/ the hard top isn't a problem. I think most of the road noise you might experience will come from the 285/70R17 Falken Wildpeak tires that are OEM on the Mojave and Rubicon trim levels.

Did you ever figure out the parasitic battery drain on your GTO? I seem to have fixed mine by replacing the gage cluster. Couldnt figure out how to program the mileage tho so I'm starting over at zero

I thought I at least figured out how to avoid it with a technique to not "activate" the drain, but when I went to record a video recently, I learned that I hadn't figured that out, either. One of my next year plans is to mess with VZClusterMod, a programming software for the GTO/Monaro gauge cluster, which may be able to fix that more recent issue (if it wasn't what you already tried).
